Lighthearted post.

Just that really 🤣 I’m very new to vinted. So let’s hear your Vinted horror stories!

Vinted itself say Very Good can have slight imperfections though
They just should be listed and visible in photos

I wasn’t aware of the mark to be honest. I suspect she just wanted something to whinge about.

I volunteered in a charity shop a few years ago and the manager did advertised items on eBay. I wouldn't be surprised if she used vinted.

On ebay you mark it as charity item

4andup · 07/09/2024 15:57

BucketBouquet · 07/09/2024 15:51

Well if I don’t know who’s selling it, I can’t make a call over whether to haggle, can I? Are you suggesting buyers never haggle just in case the seller might be a charity?

No I didn't know there was a haggle button. Haggling could go in sellers favour if it's a popular item. If it's an item that can't be shifted then Haggling down the price is the only way to buy or sell it. Charity shops will only advertise an item if they know they can get more money and people will want it.

Also, seeing things packaged in crisp bags or plastic bottles puts me off buying. It’s easy enough to send everything in a mailing bag.

How does that make the buyers ridiculous?

What a weird thread

I haven't done vinted myself, but my mum has sold a few items... one was to be shipped by putting it in a locker. Mum got to the locker but there was no paperwork, so she decided not to put the item in... so she contacted the buyer about it be of course they thought it was a scam so didn't buy it again!

Whit?

Good idea

So far, I am loving Vinted. I only started using it a few months ago and have only purchased stuff. It's a lot of stuff, as I hadn't bought any clothes for myself for many years due to a disability, but feeling some improvement and my interest in clothes came back.

I consider myself a very good buyer. I will always leave good reviews.

But I have had a few bad experiences from Sellers that could have put me off.

One seller sent me the wrong dress, I had to print out a label and travel to the Inpost Locker to return it. She asked if I still wanted the correct dress. Said yes (as I really liked the dress) said she was going to list again, but then she went ice on me and didn't reply again or offer the dress again. I didn't understand why she bothered asking in the first place then?

Then I bought a pair of size 8 shoes. The shoes were in new condition and at the time I tried them on it was a hot day and I didn't wear any tights. They seemed fine. I left great feedback. A couple days later, wearing some tights, I went to try them on and they were quite literally falling off my feet. I checked them over again. In small writing in the back side of the shoe near the stitching it said SIZE 9! The seller had to have known they were not an 8. I then spent extra money buying back inserts which hasn't worked. I am debating taking them to the cobblers to see if anything can be done or giving them away. I assume size 9 is harder to sell on Vinted.

Actually I've had no luck with shoes at all on Vinted. Vinted puts 7.5s as 41 and classes that as a UK 8. So I bought a pair of shoes that turned out to be a 7.5. They fit. But it's not comfortable.

Another pair arrived as 'good condition' they were talking to each other when they arrived. Another debate for the cobblers But they were too cheap for me to make a fuss over.

I've had petty great experiences with clothes.

@Lovefromjuliaxo thank you for the info about choosing delivery options in settings, I had no idea! I've just turned off Yodel because our local shopkeeper gives you grief if you just go in to post something without purchasing something from him Confused

Ugh my local post office woman is like this, and the shopkeeper near me too. I have to do their postage as it’s local to me but I always hate going in. My local co op used to have an evri machine but they took it away.

That's not Vinted's fault @DysonSphere . A EU 41 is realistically closest to a UK 7.5 but some companies will only map whole sizes so depending if they round up or down, you can get a variation of size. UK sizes don't actually map well to EU sizes. Frustrating but true! So some size 41 shoes are sold as UK 7 and some are UK 8 when in reality a 41 is somewhere in the middle. It's a headache.

https://www.elevateyoursole.co.uk/collections/size-uk-8

Is a UK Size 8 an EU 41 or EU 42?

As you can imagine this is a question I get asked a lot and I'll try my best to answer it here. The short answer is that it could be either and is completely dependent on whether manufacturers decide to round their sizes up or down. Most commonly a UK...

For Royal Mail, they have an option to collect parcels from your home free of charge and even bring the postage label for you too . I weigh the item I'm sending and select and pay for the correct postage option on Royal Mail website and then choose the day I want the postie to collect from my door. I prefer it because it means no long queues but it's also good for avoiding some of the less than friendly post office staff.

Oh thanks for the info! I see!

I was about to go raising it with Vinted customer services all superior air, as -Duh! Can't you see that a UK 8 is not a blimin 41 or a 7.5? You need to update your categories (!!!😌) -

I really would have lived up to the OP's title then, and given the customer services staff a laugh and a snigger to boot. God 😬

But what a lot of faff that UK sizes don't match up to EU ones all the time!

Think I'll just still to buying known brands in the shoe category then.

Whydontclothesfitanymore · 07/09/2024 16:53

I'm looking for autumn/winter wear and looking at items listed over 80 days, and having offers rejected. I think sellers need to realise what they want isn't what the item is worth!

Darkbutstarrynight · 07/09/2024 16:54

It's the sellers that plain lie that get me....new pair of shoes, labels on as picture. Except there were several clear biro marks on the side of one shoe that funnily enough were not shown in the many photos and not mentioned in description. Then I have to pay to return them with no comment, let alone apology from the seller

HollyKnight · 07/09/2024 17:21

I've had no issues with buyers. Sellers on the other hand... If you've no intention of sending something, just cancel it. Don't make me wait forever for it to timeout before I can get my money back.

I find it ridiculous how many items are up just below retail price but when you add on Vinted's Buyer Protection and postage costs it's only pennies cheaper and sometimes even more expensive. Why would I pay for something that's been sitting in someone else's home, and is going to take Yodel 10 bloody days to get it to me, when I can just get it next day from Amazon for the same price?

Omg this annoys me so much. Bin bags & shop bags turned inside out also
It costs about a fiver on Amazon for 100 bags ffs!

Very true, it’s just gross. I bought something off eBay once which came in an old cardboard cat food box 🤣

I was berated by a seller recently after letting them know I would accept order for a pair of £3.50 harem style trousers she listed as XL/14
They were super huge and I told her we’re more like a 20/22 so unwearable - she responded with so very exclamation marks about how SHE was so disappointed in her feedback etc.

TwistedSisters · 07/09/2024 19:10

I don't understand why sellers get so wound up about people offering lower prices! I've seen this mentioned before on here. It's a bargaining platform with an offer system built in, if you get an offer that you think is too low, just counter offer or decline? As a seller, I always price things a bit higher to account for this. And i agree with pps who say that the vinted fees and postage does add up, so while £4 may seem a bargain to the seller, the buyer is paying £7/8 and then its not quite such a bargain at all.

Aplaceinthecold · 07/09/2024 19:20

I have been using Vinted for the last year and only had one bad but but it was so cheap, I just recycled it.
I mostly sell now.
I really need some new dresses but all the ones I like have zero information. Not even the length or fabric type.

I know you can ask for more info but I shouldn't have to ask for everything.
I always add as much detail as possible. You can't guess any of this from a photo.

Aplaceinthecold · 07/09/2024 19:20

Bad buy not but 😁

LynetteScavo · 07/09/2024 19:34

Vinted is way better than eBay- the only issue I've had is buyers not collecting their item from the pick up point and it being sent back. Although when that has happened I've always re-sold the item and got full price, not haggled down! One person did offer me £1 for an item, and I made the mistake of telling them it wasn't worth me packing it up and travelling to post it for £1. I got a barrage of abuse back, and learned that I should have just silently declined.
