To wonder (thinking about this awful French rape case) if humans are just rotten

1000 replies

OptimismvsRealism · 05/09/2024 15:04

It wasn't just the husband - at least 80 men went along with this. Guys with ordinary lives drawn out of nowhere.

I wonder if it would be better if we were to just wind things up as a species.

@Puttingupscaffolds I'd assume they either didn't care, or didn't want to risk implicating themselves in a crime or coming to the attention of the police at all. Even if anonymously they might have been concerned about subsequently being identified.

You really want me to dig through google and find you a few female, murders, rapists and child abusers? Because they do exist.
I believe very strongly in female only spaces.
I agree that a large proportion of violent crime is perpetrated by men. BUT a blanket ‘all men are evil’ completely undermines these discussions. It’s like saying all Muslims are terrorists. And all girls
like pink.

It's not all men.

But it's always men.

Why are you defending the absolute beasts that attack women?

Why????

We have to treat all men the same because we don't know which one will attack us and when

It's Why we choose the bear.

GreatMistakes · 05/09/2024 17:10

RedHelenB · 05/09/2024 16:52

Why do you find it astonishing? Each of those had a male accomplice after all.

Exactly.

It's a far smaller number of women that offend. Of those that do, often it is because there is a man in the wings, either coercing her or she is "willing" to perpetrate herself either to carry favour with her own abuser and/or to avoid herself being abused. There are some cultures where women do vile things like selling their own children but this is normally driven by making money to servive. That doesn't make it any less reprehensible. But it illustrates my point that women rarely sexually abuse purely for kicks or preference. Even more rarely do they do so with extreme violence.

Eta that even the women that sell their children do so to....men.

TopStomp · 05/09/2024 17:05

That's not what I heard. This was not a case of some random dude or Aunt Lydia coming along with stupid cries of 'Myra Hindlay!' and the such like This was a victim of female sexual assault, a crime which is hidden, I imagine has its own particular shame attached to it, and which didn't even used to be believed happened ( I remember a conference where the speaker on sexual violence claimed that female perpetrators did not exist). This is the context of that poster's post. It has a whole history behind it, which explains the reaction. I heard her talking of the pain of her experience being overlooked, made invisible, and even denied.

I am fine with my stance that your posts to her have been revolting.

Edited

The thread is about male violence. Many posters pointed this out that it’s not ‘humans’ but men and to suggest otherwise is offensive. I suggested that poster start their own thread as this was not the place to state that women do horrible things too (which we all know) and to make it all about their personal experiences as a result. It’s about men. Feeling the need to point out that it’s not just males who rape isn’t needed on a thread like this. No one was denying anybody anything, just pointing out this thread wasn’t the place.

With all due respect, I don’t give a fuck if you found my responses ‘revolting’. I find their posts to be crass and insensitive. Now if we can get back to actually discussing the matter in hand that would be great.

Sinisterdexter · 05/09/2024 17:12

A town of 6000 inhabitants, 70 men, many of them presumably with wives, partners and dc.
It’s sick.

YellowphantGrey · 05/09/2024 17:13

Puttingupscaffolds · 05/09/2024 17:05

But why didn't those 3 or 5 report it ?

To protect themselves and the other men.

Men always protect each other.

98% of violent crime is committed by men. From stalking, to upskirting, to groping, to verbal harassment, to burglary, to putting spy cams in public toilets and changing rooms, to spiking drinks, to sexual assault, to shooting, to stabbing, to rape, to murder.....the way the behaviour of SOME men - too many men - impacts women and girls on a day in, day out basis is, frankly, absolutely fucking awful and if all those men just stopped tomorrow, think how different our lives would be. The positive change would be huge.
The focus needs to be on men, because the reality is women are responsible for an infinitesimal % of the above.

Wasn’t trying to prove a point, just trying to establish what I wasn’t seeing.

Apologies. So used to people being wankers on here, and was upset by the story, I hadn’t see it before.

CuttySarcasm · 05/09/2024 17:15

The shocking thing for me it’s not a very small amount of men who treat women like crap. Just look at these boards on here.

It’s not a small amount of men in the news, raping, setting women on fire, murdering their whole family. It’s not one or 2, it’s all over the news. SO many men kill their partner in this country each year they don’t m even make head line news.

I was reading a book and they cited an article about a study under taken in the US in 2014, 2000 college aged males were asked anonymously if they could get away with rape, would they do it? 52% said yes.

IsadoraBathrobe · 05/09/2024 17:16

My heart goes out to all survivors of sexual violence and I am truly sorry that you experienced that. The fact that the perpetrator was female is sickening.

However, with what we are discussing here, TMMALT - too many men are like that. Not all men obviously, and sometimes (rarely) women. But we are discussing the horrific scale of systemic male violence and sexual crimes against women and children. We are talking millions of rapes, murders and serious assaults globally. We need to be able to name it. TMM turn a blind eye to the issue, to what they see online, to the attitudes and behaviours of their friends. TMM have shown that given an opportunity they will join in. And until more men see this as a male issue that they need to solve, it will continue.

There was another thread where a poster said that ALL men benefit from women’s fear. That hit me like a ton of bricks because it’s true. Even ‘my Nigel’.

Absolutely horrific case.
Makes me insanely angry.

Yes. It’s hard to imagine a situation in reverse where 70 odd women would band together and go along with the abuse and only a handful would walk out.

Im afraid it is a male problem in the main.

This is absolutely true. All our Nigels benefit from women being too afraid to go out.

Maximusdecimus · 05/09/2024 17:21

I was raped four times during the course of my marriage. Once analy, I was so traumatised from it that when I had to have a colonoscopy recently the doctor allowed me to go under general anaesthetic which will be granted under special circumstances.

When I divorced my husband, I cited it in the divorce. It was struck from the court record by the male judge under the basis that it had nothing to do with my grounds for divorce (we went to court) and meant nothing with regards to my settlement. This was in 2006.

Its men. It’s fucking men.

Gettingbysomehow · 05/09/2024 17:22

I loathe men as a rule. I don't trust them and prefer to live alone. I have one child my adult DS and he was horrified when he heard this. My DS is totally incapable of behaving in this way. He is loving and kind. He has a female partner who loves him.
Trouble is so many men have always been wicked throughout history and nothing changes.
There should be the punishment of physical castration for crimes like this. That would make them think twice.

I not fucking defending anyone who has committed any act of vileness against another??? Where do I say that? If fact you are defending some (women) who have attacked women.
It’s not always men. That is a provable fact. And to state otherwise is counterproductive to your arguments. It makes us sound like hysterical, paranoid women. It stops it being a grown up fiscussion that can be taken seriously.
I’m completely accepting that it is mostly men who perpetrate these crimes.
The only time I have ever been physically attacked was by another woman in the street.

EmpressOfTheThread · 05/09/2024 17:26

"hysterical women" 🤔
There we go.

Benvolio · 05/09/2024 17:26

'The anti-male sentiment is quite astonishing.'

'Astonishing' is not what it is. It barely scratches the surface of the sex-based injustice in our society. FFS.

Yesterday, there was a Telegraph article about the man who thinks he's a woman beating all the actual women in a Paralympics women's race. The comments from men were all, 'why do the silly ladies not make a stand against this injustice and refuse to take part?', minimising the idea that sportswomen are as dedicated as sportsmen and can't afford to be cancelled.

Men tend not to be bothered about fairness, unless they themselves are inconvenienced.

IsadoraBathrobe · 05/09/2024 17:26

@Maximusdecimus 💐

SilenceInside · 05/09/2024 17:27

Oh @Maximusdecimus what can anyone say? I hope you're recovering and getting support if you need it.

It beggars belief that a judge would strike out your testimony like that, how could anyone consider it not relevant ffs.

EmpressOfTheThread · 05/09/2024 17:28

@Benvolio when women are treated fairly, it seems like inequality to some men. (See what I did there?)

Only 3 women on your list.
We could come with 3003 men for a list without too much effort.
Maybe less of the whataboutery?
