To wonder (thinking about this awful French rape case) if humans are just rotten

OptimismvsRealism · 05/09/2024 15:04

It wasn't just the husband - at least 80 men went along with this. Guys with ordinary lives drawn out of nowhere.

I wonder if it would be better if we were to just wind things up as a species.

One man said he didn’t realise this was rape because her husband was present. Don’t know if it’s a shite defence or if he’s really thick. Maybe both. Utterly vile.

Joint enterprise. She assisted a man in raping another woman.

Joint enterprise rape in the 90s and she pled guilty? Just googled it and nothing has come up… that would have been a significant case

Oh, for goodness sake, I'm not making it up.
Here's another case from 2001. The law may have changed since then, I'm not up to date:
FROM THE GUARDIAN:
A teenager became what is believed to be the youngest woman ever to be convicted of rape yesterday when a court ruled she stripped, punched and pinned down a 37-year-old woman during a "particularly vile and horrifying" sex attack.
Claire Marsh, 18, joined the handful of women convicted of the crime after the jury found she was a central figure in the gang rape, which happened after 14 people lured the victim to the side of the Grand Union canal in Ladbroke Grove, west London, in July last year.

The jury at Blackfriars crown court decided that she not only held down her victim so that two friends could rape her but rallied the teenagers with cries of "Yeah, do her" and "Go on, give her some".
Richard Whittam, for the prosecution, said: "If she was party to the group attack and if she was actively encouraging and therefore ready to lend a physical hand or if she was holding down while the offence was taking place, she in law, would be guilty of rape, although a female."

Another compassionate response. So essentially your argument is that as the victim of a female perpetrator, I should keep my nose out of this discussion? Am I intruding on your safe space?

Am I intruding on your safe space?

Usually said by sneery men.

Lilactimes · 05/09/2024 23:05

Threatening to bomb and slash at TS concert, stabbing young girls in a dance class, shooting up young kids in a school in Georgia… oh yes Men again…

Itsgottobeme · 05/09/2024 23:05

seriously. is this what any and all men do if they have the opportunity and think they can?
not just this poor poor woman. but all the families, wives and children of the men that did this to her too.
and to think how it came out! well done those fucking police. but my god, they went on for upskirting and found that. that must have fucked them up. well, some of them. a few men on the surrounding force were probably in on it too.

And the example that a woman said ‘you look like a man in a dress’ really seems…odd? Like so what? If someone said that to me I would find it funny.

You might. For me, it ruined my self-esteem as a teenager and led me to cut myself. But hey, as long as you find it funny, eh...

I’ve not seen anything in the articles I’ve read about the daughter.

One of the simultaneous reports stated that the daughter left court when they prosecutor stated that photographs of the daughter had also been found.

Can you update us as to why you think rape charities shouldn’t have money spent on them? I’m really intrigued to see your reasoning! As a victim of rape I surprised you’re not advocating for more funding?

Yes, the daughter was also drugged and had her pictures taken while so... Dispicable.

You don't find rape serious. That's as equally unfunny and offensive

You think what you like, you don't get to be a gatekeeper. There's a vile man out there who can do what he likes because 'it can't be a real account', just what the police often think.

And these women claim to be feminists, telling other women what to do and what to think, laughable, honestly...

There's no 'sisterhood'. There is no rule to say women are a hive mind who automatically agree with and support every other woman on account of the fact of shared XX chromosomes.

Feminism is some of the most bitterly contested ground of the 20th to 21st centuries.

And when women throw other women under the bus - like the anti-suffragists who wanted to deny all other women and not just themselves the right to the vote - then you can bet your boots the women who are being sold short by their adherence to the patriarchy are going to kick up a stink about it.

Fuck that noise. And the horse it rode in on.

Shocking.

So they're admitting to having sex with an unconscious and drugged woman while her husband and God knows how many other men watched? What the fuck are they telling their wifes and daughters.

And I've seen on the news report this evening of today's proceedings that some of the men's defence is that "they thought her husband's consent was enough" ..... this makes me SO mad I could FG SCREAM!!! I thought we were in 2024, but it turns out it's actually 1824!

How come you’re not answering why you put ‘rape crisis centres aren’t worth the money spent on them’? I’d say that means you don’t think rape is serious?

Over40Overdating · 05/09/2024 23:11

@Pantaloons99 I honestly think none of us can know what goes through the heads of men, no matter how well we think we know them or how decent we think they are.

I would, before this, have hoped that most men, even if they were tempted to play over the side, would draw the line at raping an unconscious woman and be repulsed by it.

Yet they met on a website where the husband clearly laid out the terms. Congratulated the men who agreed to come to his house on liking rape too. There was no ambiguity.

And so many of them were up for it. And never broke the secret.

I can’t actually get my head round it.

They treated it like a card game or round of golf. An enjoyable diversion for an evening. Something new to try.

The lack of humanity is staggering.

How many men that we meet every day actually hate us and would do the same to any of us, given the opportunity.

Yes, it’s very frightening. I saw a comment on the Daily Mail comment section of an article saying ‘prostitutes are scum’; umm but then men using them are okay??

One of them sent a girl to 'council me'. She basically told me 'I seemed to be doing well and didn't need help.' I went on to abuse alcohol and self-harm but hey, according to the rape crisis centre, I was just tickety-boo, that's if they brother to turn up at all...

Pantaloons99 · 05/09/2024 23:14

@Brefugee yeah I hear that. I'm a true crime fan so I've watched and absorbed every hideous story going regarding male violence.

When people talk about their son's etc, I believe there's a part of them saying that a generalist anti man sentiment is not going to help this situation. No one wants to think the men they know in their life are viewed this way. Also - is it dangerous to perceive all men as potentially capable of something like this case ? Is there a negative repercussion to that for us as women?

These are just thoughts for discussion. I'm not apologising for rape !

AngelicKaty · 05/09/2024 23:16

YellowphantGrey · 05/09/2024 22:13

She's already said she was raped by a man, abused by a male and bullied by 3 females which was worse and proves women are just as bad.

Yes, I know that now, but I asked her this question before she revealed that in a subsequent post.

You're probably the reason why many 'rape crisis centres' are not worth the money spent on them

Well you think rape crisis centres aren't worth the money spent on them.

You also said bullying was worse for you than rape. This is also minimising rape for others because you've made it not that bad.

But yeah, sure, you think it's serious.

But your poor experience of a rape charity is not a reason for them to lose funding? If anything surely they need more funding? Be better resourced, educated etc

Hmmm, same way poor experience of men is not a reason to hate them all...
