To wonder (thinking about this awful French rape case) if humans are just rotten

OptimismvsRealism · 05/09/2024 15:04

It wasn't just the husband - at least 80 men went along with this. Guys with ordinary lives drawn out of nowhere.

I wonder if it would be better if we were to just wind things up as a species.

Yes.time for vlad to drop the big one.

What do you mean by this??

PandoraSox · 05/09/2024 21:19

Women have a responsibility to other women. You make a girl feel she'll never be worthy of a man's attention, you might just push her towards the wrong men

It is always a woman's fault in the end, isn't it?

Appalonia · 05/09/2024 21:19

're the trial, I just saw this on Twitter. Even whilst giving evidence about her terrible ordeal, she is being gaslit...

Maybe... but why is it their voices I still hear in my head 20 years later?

Women have a responsibility to other women. You make a girl feel she'll never be worthy of a man's attention, you might just push her towards the wrong men.

Give every woman a right to feel loved and respected, don't treat them like something you stepped in.

Oh come off it 🤣🤣🤣🤣 you’re equating RAPE with being bullied?

When men are unchecked they destroy

I’m the mother of wonderful sons and, throughout their growing into men, I’ve always instilled in them the importance of challenging the behaviour of their sex

It’s not enough for them to just shrug their shoulders and think of themselves as ‘good guys’

They have to be proactive in fighting against the evils that the a vast swath of the male population inflicts on women and girls and children and that means challenging ‘blokey’ talk about hurting women etc

This is a very scary but I feel accurate visual

Smartiepants79 · 05/09/2024 15:30

SOME humans are awful.
Statistically men are more likely to be the problem but there are a few things pretty awful women around too.
They tend to be awful in different ways.

I always think I bet the awful women are probably awful due to some kind of psychological trauma caused by a man. Not an excuse of course, but still stems back to men imo.

smithy6 · 05/09/2024 21:21

OldMutantDecrepitTurtle · 05/09/2024 15:15

Yes, it was men who did this.
It was a man who set that Olympic runner on fire and killed her.
It was allegedly men who set that house on fire in Bradford causing a mother and her three children to die.
Our news cycle is largely a list of the horrible shit men have been up to.

And not forgetting it was a man who effectively ended the lives of around 55 million people in ww2, men who led to the deaths of 20 million people in ww1. Men whose decisions led to 4 million deaths in Vietnam. Men who influenced the deaths of 500,000 in Iran/Iraq war, a man whose genocide policies killed between 1.5m-3m in Cambodia etc etc etc

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 05/09/2024 21:22

On a thread discussing the rape of a woman by 70, fucking 70! men, at least, I will never, ever, understand the mentality or reasoning, of anyone whose immediate thought is 'I'll post about how it's not all men, or how women are horrible too'. What is wrong with you? Seriously, take a good look at yourselves.

Yes. Jesus, bullying kills people too. Some of us are here by the grace of God. It wasn't the rapist who made me hate myself, it was the girl who told me I looked like 'a man in a dress'.

So if women have a responsibility to other women, why are you and others on here so quick to insist women are worse, on a thread about 70 male rapists and 1 female victim?

Why are women pressured to be responsible and kind and considerate but we don't hold men to those expectations?

Why can't I call out another woman for defending men and upholding the patriarchy? But men can do exactly that?

Maybe if all women stopped apologising and excusing men we would stand a chance.

Sadly not because ALL men and a fair few women are eager to defend men.

Over40Overdating · 05/09/2024 21:24

@Lostboys16 I am very sorry about what happened to you but your first comment on a thread about a woman raped by 70 men was to be horrified about comments made by women about the violence and depravity of men simply because you have sons. Your hurt feelings over that do not trump other people’s right to be angry about men.

Whilst you have every right to be traumatised by what happened to you, being bullied by 3 women is not the equivalent and nor is the answer to either problem to say that women should be nicer.

Women being nicer to each other will not prevent a single rape or death at the hands of men. Not one.

I find it very sad that you have more anger for the women who bullied you than for the men who abused you or for men in general who do the same and worse to other women.

So you were raped by a man, but because a woman said you looked like ‘a man in a dress’; this caused you more emotional harm? Jesus, I think you might need some help…

Pyjamatimenow · 05/09/2024 15:20

My god. I’ve just read this story. Poor woman. Surely though she must have felt odd when she woke up on a regular basis after being drugged? He’d have had to give her some heavy duty stuff for her not to wake

It’s horrific. Of course the sedatives/abuse gave her weird symptoms/side effects. She’s been going to the doctors for years, always with her husband, thinking she was suffering from a mysterious illness/losing her mind.

I actually start physically retching when I think about it too much.

Lucy Lethby ( aledgedly)
Myra Hindley
Maxime Carr etc
......not always men.

Lucy Letby is not an 'alleged' killer.

She is a tried and convicted mass murderer.

Yeah you’re right. Let’s decriminalise rape and make bullying a crime instead

CharlieDickens · 05/09/2024 21:32

AngelicKaty · 05/09/2024 21:16

Absolutely. So many men use this statistic to claim women are given lenient treatment at sentencing (i.e. more non-custodial sentences) but as you state, the real reason is women just don't commit as much crime as men and certainly nothing like as much violent crime as men. And when we have so few prison spaces left, the emphasis should be on imprisoning violent offenders - so this statistic isn't going to change.
Did your male friend accept your point, or do you think he's still wedded to his erroneous belief?

The emphasis being placed on violent crime is probably true and possibly the reason why men are let off rape so easily. If it's not happening in the street, it's almost like it doesn't count.

Won't happen.

This has been the state of Mumsnet for a while and it's been particularly noteworthy over the past 2-3 years. MRAs and their handmaidens everywhere and no thread about the abuse of women by men is immune, ever. No matter how horrific its content.

The only plausible conclusion is that it's deliberate.

Over40Overdating · 05/09/2024 21:33

@Appalonia ’sex scene’ - which makes it sound like a sordid but consensual issue. Sickening.

I understand that some of the men are claiming it was not rape as she consented and was aware of what would happen once drugged.

Given her wretched husband has admitted it all, how any of them have the gall to try to blame her still is beyond me.

How many of these animals have wives, mothers and girlfriends at home wondering what else these men have done. It’s very unlikely their behaviour is limited to this or a one off.

It makes me wonder if any of us ever truly know the men we are with.

lovelifeat40 · 05/09/2024 21:33

Look at what men are capable of doing to women in the name of religion!!! Says it all! very (not) complex issue, men rule weather we like it or not. We live in a patriarchal society weather it is in the West or East world, of course it is worse in the East in the name of religion! Us as women, we need to fight left right and centre, it's a battle our elders have half won, let's keep the good work 😉

Yes I’ve read that part now. It’s just horrible. It’s depraved what he’s done to her. Really. I do think people need to realise that a huge percentage of perverts exist among us. I had a bad encounter with a man on my street when I was seven. You just never really know with men. Never.

Nobody said anything about decriminalising rape. Bitter, horrific, vile, disrespectful bullying should absolutely be a crime, it kills people.
