Disney adults

In the last year I've met three separate couples that are so into Disney.

I know we all like different things, but isn't Disney for children?

Oh yay this thread again.

If people liking Disney annoy you, you don't have to spend time with them. You're grown. You choose what you like, what you do, and who you spend time with.

DancingPhantomsOnTheTerrace · 05/09/2024 12:13

I don't like Disney stuff but I've never understood why people sneer at the things other people like.

If they talk about it too much, that's a separate issue and does sound boring (just as it would be if they were talking about "grown up" interests).

Planits · 05/09/2024 12:14

I must admit I found it frustrating when DC had to queue behind countless middle-aged women to meet the characters at Disney.

redtrain123 · 05/09/2024 12:17

How do you feel about Harry Potter? The kids who were obsessed with it are now turning thirty plus, and many still love it. A lot of adults dressed up when we went to Harry Potter world recently.

Why?
How ridiculous.
Is there a special age where you should get priority in a queue?
Why do you think only children are allowed to queue up for Disney characters?!
Nice dog at "middle aged women" there too. 🙄
What are the approved interests for said middle aged women?
Knitting? Sourcing twin sets? Upholstering furniture? Biscuit

redtrain123 · 05/09/2024 12:17

What a house. Love the murals.

Noseybookworm · 05/09/2024 12:17

I find it very wierd to be honest. Maybe I'm just a cynical old bat 😂

PrincessHoneysuckle · 05/09/2024 12:18

My best friend loves Disney and collects Disney figurines.
Her dd 9 loves it too.
She doesn't go on about it though.

user19888891 · 05/09/2024 12:18

OP how would you define a ‘Disney adult’

mitogoshi · 05/09/2024 12:19

I find it odd that grown women are "so" into Disney at least past early 20's but each to their own. I find obsessions odd more generally anyway. I like things but nothing that much!

Edingril · 05/09/2024 12:20

It is not for me even as a child, but no I don't think it is just for children

I don't get the Disney obessesion where all parents assume all kids are into it

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 05/09/2024 12:21

Disney owns both Marvel and Star Wars now . Plenty of adults like them. Gatekeepers aren't cool.

MrsSkylerWhite · 05/09/2024 12:22

I don’t get it either but each to their own. I’m more of a Game of Thrones kind of gal 😁

SecondStarOnTheRight · 05/09/2024 12:25

Isn't Harry Potter for children? Yet many adults still crowded Kings Cross a few days ago for a train announcement.

As long as it doesn't hurt anyone, then so be it.

JazbayGrapes · 05/09/2024 12:26

I feel the same. Books and films are cool. But tattoos? A bit OTT

NoraLuka · 05/09/2024 12:27

Not a fan but each to their own. Disneyland looks like a nightmare though, I wouldn’t go there for anything.

Also, I am sitting here wearing a Mr Men t-shirt so can’t really criticise Disney adults!

Lemonade2011 · 05/09/2024 12:30

I’m ’middle aged’ and off to Disney world next month taking kids who are early teens. I’m not fanatical but I do enjoy Disney world, and I will be queuing for some characters I don’t care who thinks it’s ’for kids’ or ‘sad’ we all have things we like and enjoy in life I don’t think it’s for anyone else to judge tbh it’s not weird it’s a bit of fun and escapism I don’t like sitting on beaches/by pools. Each to their own 😀

Caerulea · 05/09/2024 12:33

I'm not a Disney anything but watched a video on this the other day from the very beautiful & funny Robert Welsh..

@stardii think you kicked the hornets nest with this one 😂

Yes Disney is for children.
I think it's part of a wider problem of adults not maturing anymore n staying in perpetual adolescence. It's why they all need safe spaces n emotional support llamas or whatever.

So meone that wears all the merch and dresses up as the characters. There are some women on social media, I think called plus size park hoppers, christ they get some abuse - liking Disney and being very overweight is catnip to some commenters. They do a thing called "if we fit we sit" so they go for food in Disney and let people know at what size you couldn't fit in a restaurant chair so other large people know. Also do the same with the seats on the rides, so they will have some employee trying to ram them into a seat.

Sethera · 05/09/2024 12:37

It is escapism. Disney is a ruthless money-making machine, but no more so than your average 'luxury' beach resort hotel. I think it's a shame more people don't vote with their feet when they pay a fortune to stand in queues all day for rides, eat mediocre food and pay five star prices for very average hotels, but ultimately it's their choice.

RandomUsernameHere · 05/09/2024 12:38

I love theme parks generally, but Disney is on another level. I don't think it's weird for adults to like it, but for me a big part of it is how much the DC enjoy it. I definitely wouldn't wear all the merch, but equally wouldn't think badly of any adult who did.

I'm not particularly a Disney fan, but detest attitudes like yours.
Why so sneery towards others who don't share your interests?
They're literally doing you no harm.
Seriously, lighten up a bit.

BeachParty · 05/09/2024 12:42

Nice dig at people who suffer from mental health problems too.
Seriously, these types of threads bring out the dregs.
