Disney adults

In the last year I've met three separate couples that are so into Disney.

I know we all like different things, but isn't Disney for children?

OP posts:

I was once offered a 2 week all expense paid holiday to Disney Florida. Nothing could have persuaded me to go.

Why not - unless you’ve been you wouldn’t know about how special they make it for children and adults

tommyhoundmum · 06/09/2024 20:08

Parker231 You're probably right but it just doesn't appeal to me.

Disney in Paris is nothing like Disney World in Florida. Nothing.

I'd rather be a childless, self infantilised, overly excitable millennial than a boring bitch with a massive stick up my arse who uses the anonymity of the internet to be snide about other people under the ruse of false bafflement at their differences 🙃

Not saying that's you of course OP, just a wild and completely unrelated example of a more dislikeable person than a Disney adult.

This exactly!
Oh by the way I'm a self confessed Disney lover, if that makes me a self infantilised, overly excitable whatever so be it. I'll live with itBiscuit

Erm, but Disney is not adult animation.

If you read what I wrote you’ll see i said that animation is clearly popular with adults judging by these kinds of statistics AND Disney is certainly aimed at family audiences (therefore not exclusively “children’s animation”).

i was making a point that animation is popular.

It's entirely possible, but her obsession is Disney and the childishness of it is what aids her in remaining in this arrested state of development.

She's a perfectly capable woman. She has two degrees and is good at her job. She chooses to use Disney as a crutch to hide behind, and the "I'm so sweet and cute, teehee!" as she swans in wearing a Tinkerbell skirt for Friday drinks (I'm not kidding, genuinely) and has her Auntie pick her up at 11.30 (maybe she'll turn into a pumpkin?) isn't helping her.

I feel sorry for her family. They're essentially stuck with 37 year old child who is in debt and refuses to learn to care for herself. She's an extreme example perhaps, but many of the Disney Adults out there are like this.

Edited

I think her extreme interest in Disney is a symptom, and not the cause of what you consider to be someone that her family is "stuck with".

I really don't think her liking Disney is stopping her having an independent life. It sounds like there are deeper issues going on that you know nothing about.

And I think it is awful that you would post about her on here and judge her so much.

They are both meh.

ReadingWorm · 06/09/2024 21:18

I find it hilarious that a site known for adults who read Harry Potter books has such a toxic reaction to Disney.

babyhighlandcow · 06/09/2024 21:29

Yeah, imagine is the word so at least you are right in something.

Are you implying she can’t afford to go there?

Parker231 · 06/09/2024 21:37

Disney World in Florida is amazing. Paris and Tokyo are good but nothing like Florida.

babyhighlandcow · 06/09/2024 21:38

armadillio · 06/09/2024 21:31

Why on earth would I do that?

You might want to google the world Imagine / Imagineering and Disney World.

CheeseWisely · 06/09/2024 21:44

You'd hate me then OP, I've even been to Disneyland alone as an adult! I went for a Disney sporting event that was open to over 16s, so arguably not just for kids.

No problem though, because I hate sneery judgemental fun sponges, so we'd never be friends in the first place.

babyhighlandcow · 06/09/2024 21:53

armadillio · 06/09/2024 21:10

I suspect you are the meh. But I don’t really care where other people go on holiday. I’ve been lucky to be able to go all over the world with my family a few times, and it’s rarely I find places meh. Moved abroad when I was 19.

Well, AI I’d hate tbf.

You don't know her. I know exactly what you're getting at, but to be quite honest I think it's just as poor form to be trying to diagnose someone online based off a few comments. I'm autistic as are other people in my workplace. All of us have our special interests; none of us are screeching about them all day long like she is.

I do know her. Know her well in fact, and there's nothing wrong with her aside from this childishness and total obsession. She's also a snide and manipulative cow with a penchant for gossip. She's single because she's treated her ex-partners atrociously. She's selfish, and her vacuous and all-consuming love of all things Disney is just a part of that. But this post was about Disney Adults, which she is.

So it’s ok for you to not like AI but anyone not liking Disney is ‘meh’? Yawn.

BooBooDoodle · 06/09/2024 22:40

I grew up on Disney. Despite wonderful holidays all over the place, we never got to Disney in America. We are going when my eldest finishes his GCSE’s in 2 years time as a huge treat and I honestly can’t wait. I have always wanted to walk down Main Street wearing mouse ears and a baggy jumper with Pluto on it and I bloody well will. This has been my wish since childhood and I'll be seeing it out at 46. Can’t come soon enough. My DH has never been to Disney and he’s a huge fan as are our kids.

CheeseWisely · 06/09/2024 22:53

Enjoy it @BooBooDoodle! I was sceptical about Magic Kingdom when I went to Florida without children as I thought we'd enjoy the other parks more. I was SO wrong. We were there from rope drop to kick out and it was genuinely absolutely magical.

Dutchhouse14 · 06/09/2024 23:09

Doesn't do any harm and brings joy.
However I did raise an eyebrow or two when I took DC to Disneyland Paris this summer.
Many grown adults with magnetic soft toys on their shoulders, Disney headbands, family Disney T Shirts, one or two even in Disney fancy dress.
By day two I also was considering a headband-but decided it was too late to buy one!
I must admit I do enjoy Disney films

i quess they can appricate it more ?

MirandaJH · 07/09/2024 06:11

Is porn just for pervs?
Is wine just for alcoholics?
Are carrots just for rabbits?

More than one target audience can exist. There are lots of nuances in Disney films that only an adult can understand. For example, a child is yet to understand the concept of regretting choosing a paycheck over your passion, which is the initial concept of ‘Soul’.

TorroFerney · 07/09/2024 07:33

Whatthefuck3456 · 06/09/2024 19:35

Yes. I find it strange when grown ups go to Disneyland without any children.

Oh god I went with my now husband when we were in our 20‘s before we had a child. Am I a Disney adult??!!

i have never watched a Disney cartoon film though I don’t think as an adult - are minions Disney, have watched them with my daughter.

went to Florida a few years ago but only went to universal as my daughter did not want to go to Disney. Absolutely no interest in it.
