Wedding guest dress - it’s cream

But it’s covered in polkadots, does this make it acceptable?

love this dress and the lady in the shop described it as the ‘perfect’ wedding guest dress but obviously she wants to sell it. I just keep thinking it’s a lot of cream.

Please don't wear this to a wedding. Wear it for another occasion, but I wouldn't wear it to a wedding.

Side note - I wouldn't ever wear that myself but it does look fab on you! Get two dresses - why not

ThomasPatrickKeatingsDegas · 05/09/2024 07:02

I work in fashion. The dots are far too big and will make you look like a cartoon character. Also although you have posters saying it’s fine, the rule is wear nothing that could be construed as white, and show up white in photos even if it has a pattern. It pulls focus away from the bride in photography.

As you can see it’s a bit over 50% saying don’t do it in your poll, and I can guarantee if you wear it the same amount of guests will be silently judging you on the day. It’s one day, one event that’s not about you. Find something else (and that will show off your lovely figure better than a middle aged frumpy work dress)

Purplecatshopaholic · 05/09/2024 07:03

Lovely dress. Looks great and fine for a wedding assuming you love it, not just your DH. People on here are really weird about what is deemed acceptable for a wedding - if you love it, wear it. If it’s more your DH’s choice than yours, maybe go for something else.

User79853257976 · 05/09/2024 07:04

I wouldn’t wear it. It doesn’t look bridal but there is no point risking it.

SardinesOnGingerbread · 05/09/2024 07:10

Gorgeous figure! Dress is lovely, but if you feel ambivalent about it, keep looking.

Apolloneuro · 05/09/2024 07:11

I don’t think it’s ok for a wedding.

I reckon your husband likes it because it shows off your gorgeous figure!

i think you can do better (sorry I think the dress is horrible)

ErrolTheDragon · 05/09/2024 07:12

It's fine, I don't think anyone sane would 'judge' you for wearing that dress, I doubt many brides even notice what guests are wearing (unless it's something very weird which that isn't).

But with your great figure there must be lots of other dresses which you would like better - you sound ambivalent about it. As it felt amazing on, maybe look for similar fabric and style but in a colour that you know suits you.

Didimum · 05/09/2024 07:14

Sorry, I wouldn’t wear that to a wedding. As I bride, I would not have cared if a guest wore this personally, but a fair few brides would. You have every other colour to choose from, I think it’s decent to be respectful and just not wear white, ivory or cream.

Thehonestbadger · 05/09/2024 07:14

@Fairyliz 😂 it’s me wearing it but I’ve had two kids so I can promise you it do have wobbly bits it’s just a flattering cut.

So I’m gonna share my favourite dress of the day but neither DH nor the shop lady seemed to like it (it’s light blue)

Too much cream. The cut is lively though I'd look for another one that's similar

Thehonestbadger · 05/09/2024 07:15

I meant to crop my feet out 😬 sorry

That's lovely

Smittenkitchen · 05/09/2024 07:16

I think in terms of how it looks on the day in person, it's not too close to white. If you wore a (non-white/cream) jacket for the main pictures it would be fine.

carrotcard · 05/09/2024 07:16

It's not about people mistaking you for the bride. I don't know why people bring that up all the time. But the photos are going to look silly unless you stand at the back. People's eye is going to be drawn to you. Part of the beauty of a wedding photo with a traditional light coloured bride outfit is that the eye is naturally drawn to the lighter colour. This means the couple stand out so they don't always have to be bang in the centre the photographer can get creative.

Thehonestbadger · 05/09/2024 07:17

It was written off on the basis they didn’t have my size. I’m wearing a size bigger in the pic but I could drive to another store close by and get the smaller one I think

There are three colours you shouldn’t wear to a wedding: white, cream and black.

Of course it’s not suitable for a wedding guest.

I'd ask mnhq to remove that you get some weird feet pervs on the Internet

Natwestbit · 05/09/2024 07:17

The cream one is lovely. Only on MN do people get their knickers in a knot about a cream dress with a print for weddings. Accessorised with black, stunning.
I think it looks nicer on you than the blue dress.

This blue dress is absolutely gorgeous! So much better.

Wedding Photographers hate it

regementaria · 05/09/2024 07:19

Way too much cream, completely inappropriate.

all the colours you could possibly wear and you have chosen a dress that’s 94% cream

ignore everyone telling you it’s fine. It’s mumsnet and people don’t open their front doors and frequently want to downplay wedding fuss.

in the real world- people would be giving you funny looks at turning up to a wedding in a very cream dress.

the black polka dots don’t stop it being cream

JanefromLondon1 · 05/09/2024 07:19

They're both middle aged and safe. The cut of the first one is awful.

Still blue, what about this? Bit more on trend.

If it was plain cream it wouldn't be appropriate but with those massive black dots all over it? Absolutely fine! It changes it completely.

Beautiful3 · 05/09/2024 07:20

It's lovely and the polka dots make it obvious that you're not the bride.

That looks awful. I prefer OP's blue one
