Duvet cover and bottom sheet together or separately?!

OP posts:
Enko · 03/09/2024 10:07

I don't use a top sheet loathe the blooming things.

However dh and I have a kingsize duvet each and 5 pillows between us plus the sheet they all go in together without a single issue. I have never had any winding round each other issue that meant they were not washed clean. (Now if I forget to button up the quilt and put them in the tumble dryer we have a issue)

Thistooshallpass24 · 03/09/2024 10:07

I read the title of the thread in Vogue Williams voice (or the stupid Fairy baby) it feels like it's trying to sell me new washing powder or washing machine!

Shodan · 03/09/2024 10:07

Sometimes together, sometimes separately according to colour. I like living dangerously though.

I do try to remember to close the fastenings on the duvet cover, because nothing enrages me more than opening the washing machine to find everything cosying up together inside it.

RocketPanda · 03/09/2024 10:08

I've a 12kg machine, sheets, duvets and anything else of a similar colour goes in together.
Some people have strange ideas about washing. As long as it's clean and fresh that's all that matters. Nobody has died of mixed bedding gremlins yet.

FunkyMonks · 03/09/2024 10:08

Changed once a week and washed all together @ 60

Piesforteaagain · 03/09/2024 10:08

Mine all goes in together, then if there’s space I add clothes/towels/tea towels of appropriate colours (lights or darks). But I don’t overload as it needs space to move and be jostled in order to be washed properly. Try never to wash small loads now as my machines a bit old and doesn’t half a half load facility. I’m mindful of energy consumption

GreatMistakes · 03/09/2024 10:08

Either. They match so can go together but sometimes I'll split to bulk out a light or dark load (we have a large drum washing machine and superking bedding)

Harrriet · 03/09/2024 10:11

Is someone bullying you @hejsl . As you can see it's really not an issue but if someone is making you doubt it, then please say.

Jacopo · 03/09/2024 10:12

Together. I suppose it does depend or the size and age of your washing machine. Mine easily takes a superking cover, sheet and four pillowcases.

TortillasAndSalsa · 03/09/2024 10:13

Duvet cover and sheet go in the same wash here

Jacopo · 03/09/2024 10:13

Also I think the other person should mind their own business, and if they live with you tell them they can do the laundry in future.

Catza · 03/09/2024 10:13

The level of desperation over laundry is quite concerning.
What does "washing properly" entail? Who measured the correct levels of washing and what tools did they use?
I don't care if the bedding is "properly" washed or not. It is visually clean, smells nice and nobody died in their sleep. That's good enough for me.
I have 7kg drum so bedding goes in all together and there is enough space left to bang in a few t-shirts and socks.

Stopgivingaway · 03/09/2024 10:14

I put all the sheets in one wash and do the duvet covers separately with the buttons done up . No idea of the rights and wrongs

Maray1967 · 03/09/2024 10:14

HappyDane · 03/09/2024 09:56

Depends on colour.

Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't.

They're always good and clean and I've never had any issues with damage to the machine.

Same here. I sometimes do the white sheets with other white things, but usually I do the bedding together. If I have to tumble dry, then I do open the machine periodically and separate it, as it does get rolled up into a big ball. But I’ve never worried about that when washing.

Eyesopenwideawake · 03/09/2024 10:15

hejsl · 03/09/2024 09:52

Desperate because I’ve just been told that they don’t wash properly when in together and it can also damage the machine as they get wound round together !

Put your mind at ease. That's complete and utter rubbish, hogwash, crap, ridiculous and nonsense.

allthemiddlechildrenoftheworld · 03/09/2024 10:16

@hejsl strip the bed and boil king duvet cover, super kingbottom sheet and 8 pillow slips at 90. 10 kg machine so king size bedding has plenty room to move about. nothing else goes in at the same time. and people are correct, definitely button the cover before washing!

Purplebunnie · 03/09/2024 10:16

Mix and match, there's a lot to wash. Pillow protectors x 4, pillow cases x 4, top and bottom sheets, mattress protector and duvet cover.

I'm questioning whether I should wash pillow protectors and mattress protector every wash now😂

Pippifer · 03/09/2024 10:16

I wash mine separately, I wasn’t convinced they were being washed properly all squished in there.

Some people probably have a bigger drum than mine and I’m only a one person household so it’s easy for me.

banivani · 03/09/2024 10:17

hejsl · 03/09/2024 09:52

The person who told you this ... is this someone who also does the washing? Because if it's "helpful advice" from someone who doesn't even turn the washing machine on they can get lost.

If the machine is too packed the washing won't be able to move freely and get properly clean, sure. But as for "winding" - I often find shirt sleeves wound around trouser legs for example. They still get clean.

endofthelinefinally · 03/09/2024 09:54

Wash everything together but fasten the duvet cover closed so that things don't get inside it.

This!!

PivotPivotmakingmargaritas · 03/09/2024 10:19

Talk about boy who cried wolf… desperately asking ffs … next time title your post accordingly as this is not a desperately asking question

godmum56 · 03/09/2024 10:20

I don't find it damages the machine but I do find then end up in a huge horrible knot. Mine are superking so go in on their own but with the guest bed smaller ones, I put other things in with them

lanthanum · 03/09/2024 10:21

Separately because I hang them on the landing banister to dry, so haven't got room for both.

tillylula · 03/09/2024 10:22

All together, even if different colours. Same for clothes. We don't have white clothes cause I cba to separate it 🤣

It is if you're going to get a beating for getting it wrong.
