Duvet cover and bottom sheet together or separately?!

Not sure why you are asking.
Is it to do with worrying about over loading the washing machine or is it a hygiene question?

I use a bottom sheet and a top sheet. I think some people just use a bottom sheet. But I definitely wash top sheet, bottom sheet, under sheet ,duvet cover, and pillowcases at the same time. But I have to do it in a few loads.

Edited

@Septemberalready if you have to do it in a few loads then how is that doing it together though?!

Together. I've never worried about it in my life.

HappyDane · 03/09/2024 09:56

Depends on colour.

Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't.

They're always good and clean and I've never had any issues with damage to the machine.

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 03/09/2024 09:56

Has never happened to me. Put them in separately rather than all bunched together though. My 7kg machine will take a King duvet cover, bottom sheet and two pillow cases.

Desperate because I’ve just been told that they don’t wash properly when in together and it can also damage the machine as they get wound round together !

They all tied up together in the tumble dryer but not the washing machine. What size drum is your machine op?

Hillarious · 03/09/2024 09:57

I've been doing my own washing for over 35 years. I've always put the sheets, pillow cases and duvet covers in together. I've got through a few washing machines in that time, but not because any bedding got wound together.

I thought you possibly meant changing and washing the bottom.sheet one day and then in a few days washing and changing the duvet cover. I.e. so you weren't doing both on the same occasion. So not doing them both together.

I've always washed one set of bedding together with a few other bits. If you fasten the buttons/press studs on the duvet cover it stops the other stuff getting inside it but nothing bad has ever happened either way.

Mintgum · 03/09/2024 09:58

I wash everything altogether once a week.

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 03/09/2024 09:58

Yes, I think it's tumble drier that refers to, not washing machine.

2chocolateoranges · 03/09/2024 09:58

i wash each lot of bedding together eg all of ours go in one wash(king size) , ds’s bedding goes in another wash and dd’s bedding goes in another. Washing machine has never been damaged due to this. Who told you that nonsense?

sunsetsandboardwalks · 03/09/2024 09:58

Bedding gets changed and washed together once a week.

I love the fact that this is a desperate question for you though!

5128gap · 03/09/2024 09:59

No one should make you feel 'desperate' by criticising the way you do the washing OP. So if someone is overlooking you and had this level of influence that's another issue. If the desperation to be perfectly clean is coming from you, that's something else to address, maybe? Meanwhile, if you're worried do them separately. Though together is of course fine too.

TheNormalRules · 03/09/2024 09:59

I wash them (king-size) together with the pillowcases and a couple of towels of the same colour in our 10kg washing machine. We've never had a problem.

amoreoamicizia · 03/09/2024 10:00

Separately because my sheets are white but my duvet covers are coloured.

MonsteraMama · 03/09/2024 10:01

I've been washing mine together since time immemorial and never had an issue with them getting tangled up or damaging the machine. The worst sin is leaving the poppers open on the duvet cover so everything ends up inside it scrunched up in the bottom corner.

Yes, was going to say something like this too. Hope you're ok in yourself @hejsl - you really don't need to feel desperate over this.

StormingNorman · 03/09/2024 10:01

Strip the bed and bung it all in together.

Pogggle · 03/09/2024 10:02

Did this really need the clickbait title?

@hejsl

Who told you that?? They need a stiff ignoring.

it's just fine, mostly I wash mine together with pillow cases, but not if the sheet is a totally different colour.

just watch it doesn't overload your particular machine (easy test is to make a fist and check that fits in between bedding/clothing & the drum.

dont wind them together when you strip the bed. Put them into the machine separately

Nohimi · 03/09/2024 10:03

endofthelinefinally · 03/09/2024 09:54

Wash everything together but fasten the duvet cover closed so that things don't get inside it.

This is key!

KreedKafer · 03/09/2024 10:03

Good grief, just wash your stuff how you want, it really, really doesn't matter.

Needmorelego · 03/09/2024 10:03

I always wash a set together. That's quilt cover, bottom sheet and 4 pillowcases.
It's a case of one set taken off to be washed and new set put on (plus whatever else I can shove in the machine).
Everything usually ends up inside the quilt cover (how?) but it's all clean.

CraverSpud · 03/09/2024 10:04

Too much time on your hands girl!

SecondFavouriteDinosaur · 03/09/2024 10:05

Together because it’s all white and we have a 10kg drum.
I still can’t see how it’s a desperate issue, unless you have anxiety issues around germs/cleanliness? Ive been washing them together for years and it’s not made me ill to date.
