Am I the only person who would rather stick pins in my eyes than go to an Oasis concert?
Durgey, dull, same same music, enormous egos - no thanks I’d rather stay at home and I’m a 90s teenager!

What singers/bands do you like OP?

Werweisswohin · 31/08/2024 22:32

Well you obviously have superior tastes to those of us who do like them and I’m just relieved you started this thread so we all now know.

Why don’t you start a thread next about your least favourite brand of washing powder?

Lidl Formil is pretty decent for the price. 😬

How about a poll on 'Oasis - the fruit drink or the band?'

PassingStranger · 31/08/2024 22:32

Agree, miserable and argumentative. Dreadful sound.Laughing all the way to the bank. All.your doing is making rich people even richer. They aren't worried about you.

To be fair though I wouldn't go to any concerts like that today. Big rip off. Stressful.to get tickets. No doubt all the merchandise and refreshments will all be a rip.off too.
Look after your money it's not easy to come by.

Bad day @Saltedbutter ??

It was quite average, really. You?

This thread appears to have attracted the crowd of MNs who are so too super cool for school.

It's you who thinks you're super cool and edgy for being the only person who will stick their head above the parapet and say they don't like Oasis.

Except you're not, for many others have gone before you.

YogaForDummies · 31/08/2024 22:34

I think a lot of people going are going for the social capital of buying a ticket that's slightly hard to acquire, it's like the equivalent of wearing a fancy jacket or trainers 'look at me I'm so special'. Some of them will be actual fans of the music but I honestly think they are fewer than the first group described.

ArmchairOlympian · 31/08/2024 22:34

I don’t think I’ll post what my choice in bands /
music is. Whatever I said would be ridiculed by the super cool gang or so not original.

It’s not Oasis v the rest of the world. Just an opposite opinion which I’m clearly not allowed without being labelled an unoriginal dullard.

gretathegremlin · 31/08/2024 22:35

I don't hate them. If it was going to be £30 up our local party venue where all the tribute acts go for a cheesy night out I'd be in.

I can't be doing either this level of expense and hassle though, much as my 16yo would have liked to see them, having never thought there was even a possibility.

I have simply reminded myself that despite the hype and nostalgia, it's not worth the trouble when the only songs I like are limited to one good album and I don't much care for the individuals in the band.

I think there's perhaps also younger fans who didn't see them before they split/weren't actually born when the band properly existed. I saw them at Balloch (Loch Lomond), 1996 I think.

😂I don't think any of us were under any illusion that Liam and Noel 'care about us' but thanks for the patronising life lesson on how to spend our money.

By the way, unless your living off grid, it's almost impossible not to spend money that contributes to the rich getting richer.

People over the age of 15 don't tend to like certain bands just to 'be cool'.
All music is cool if it makes you feel emotion.

Well, don't go to their concerts then! Nobody is forcing you to.

If other people want to spend their hard earned money on Oasis, then let them. Stop being such a bloody killjoy! Hmm

I agree. My OP was nothing to do with being cool or not, it was the attack from the cool girls that sent us down that road.

I don't think liking Oasis is 'cool'.
As PP said, music is about how it makes you feel and there is something about Oasis songs that generate a lot of emotion in me, make me feel part of something, nostalgic, sad/happy?! It's weird and not quantifiable.

But you’re the ‘cool girl’ for starting this thread to let us know how different to the masses you are. Surely this disagreement was what you were looking for from this thread?

Didimum · 31/08/2024 22:47

Are Oasis threads the new private school threads? Can someone open a new category?

Some of their songs definitely take me back to specific times, places and people in my life. I was young(er), more carefree and loving my life! I don't want to see them again but happy for others to enjoy the music and seeing them live (again or for the first time).

MN can be confusing. You'll get posts telling people off for posting on a thread if they don't agree with it, and to just ignore it rather than disagree with the OP, then on another thread there'll be a pile on of posters disagreeing and having a go at the OP.

FWIW I don't see a problem with discussing it. I'd be bored listening to Oasis for more than 5 minutes, but I assume many would feel the same listening to some of my favourite bands/artists.

I was just trying to change the thread into a discussion about music rather than an argument. I love music and like hearing what other people are into/what concerts they've been to etc and think that is a better discussion than slagging off any artist in particular. There's more than 100 million songs on Spotify so something for everyone.

Wouldn't you technically have to stick pins in your ears if you didn't like them? So you couldn't hear them? Why your eyes @ArmchairOlympian ???

I'll get me coat.........
