Why do so many people seem ‘triggered’ by Oasis?

Blueybanditbingochilli · 31/08/2024 11:27

For want of a better word.

If I saw a band I didn’t like were reforming, it wouldn’t stay in my head longer than a split second, it would be absolutely nothing to me.

Yet we’ve had multiple threads from posters demanding to know why anyone is buying tickets, why don’t people agree that they’re shit, how superior their own music taste is and what a better person they are for it (😂). I would never demand to know why somebody likes something I don’t, it just seems so arrogant and the answer so obvious.

If the band are aiming to be a bit ‘marmite’ they’ve clearly got the result they wanted!

Noel would really fit in here. MN hate wokeism too, AND they hate criticism of wokeism.

When we were young (late Gen X) and were listening to The Rolling Stones (my dad loved them) and The Kinks etc, the older gens loved it "good to know you young uns' still like proper music" 😂

My dad was so excited when I started listening to bands he enjoyed, he could t wait to share his favourites with me. People are so stuck up about music, they like to think they’re unique. It’s like when you wear a band t-shirt as a woman and a man demands you name three albums 🙄

sunseaandsoundingoff · 31/08/2024 14:43

I don't really understand any of it to be honest, people seem to be killing themselves over tickets but they can listen to them any time they like on YouTube or Spotify or something. It's like people who go to the cinema to watch a film.

What’s ND?

@greenel I’m definitely out of the loop then 😄 I wouldn’t see anything any of the people you mention post (I even had to Google ‘Ben Fogle’ to check I was thinking of the right person! I was, lol.) I don’t follow any major bands, my sponsored posts are from smaller ticket sellers and I don’t generally go on mainstream news pages, unless it’s from clicking on a link to specific articles. It goes to show how easy it is to end up in echo chambers online.

Don’t you watch any tv news? Listen to radio news? Walk past any newspaper stands in the supermarket? It’s been everywhere.
The only live set I’ve ever walked out of was Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, soo am definitely not going/interested in them. I genuinely don’t get why anyone would celebrate them - as PPs have said derivative over simple music, plus terrible attitude (misogyny, homophobia etc). It’s not about class. They’re hardly working class lads anymore anyway. They’re just vile people.

Agree about people on here finding everything shit.

There was a thread the other day about lovely things to look forward to in autumn and someone said they hated it and only liked summer as "all other times of the year are shit" or something along those lines.

Imagine hating 3/4 of the year

Do you think maybe different people dislike different things, not ‘everyone hates everything’? It’s a big site. There are bound to be people who dislike any individual thing but it’s not the same people every time…

@Meatwallet

I half see what you mean but if you dont worship at the church of ND you arent welcome here.

What's that?

I asked the same but I suspect they mean neurodivergence. So attacking disability is now acceptable it seems…

I dont get it either- I'd rather poke my eye with a blunt pencil than spend hours and hours online waiting to be 30,000 in the queue for overpriced tickets to a mediocre band but if others like them then good for them- I hope they get their tickets and have a fab time.

What I am also laughing about is Generation Z (and I am one) posting all over social media that they should get preference for tickets because "they saw them in the 90s" and that younger generations shouldn't be allowed to access the tickets before them. Why?? - it's not illegal to like a band from a generation that isnt your own FGS. The outrage on both sides is laughable.

I think you've got your generation wrong

No to all of the above; not mainstream anyway. I feel similarly about Vybz Kartel releasing concert tickets today - a HUGE star but I’m sure it wouldn’t have reached most MNers feeds. It is, however, spoken on the radio stations I listen to, media outlets I follow and promoted posts on my social media.

Because people are miserable and like to make other people as miserable as they are, and there's a lot of snobbery about music.

There is music for everyone, if you don't like something, just ignore it. Some of the comments from triggered people just make them look pathetic.

I'm very happy to have tickets to Oasis.

YearsWentByFast · 31/08/2024 15:05

Also quite normal I suppose to clash with other people about music taste if that's the sort of thing that's important to you.

I don't think it's normal at all. It's music, it's doing no harm and people like different things. Chat about it, yes, but clash and argue, that's just weird. There's no right and wrong over what music you like the sound of.

Ponoka7 · 31/08/2024 15:20

Thevelvelletes · 31/08/2024 14:32

They're are a pair of cunts.
I'll stick to Northern soul,it's served me well for the past 43 years
Keep on keeping on people.

Who's still touring out of the original artists? People like live music. I like tribute artists when I can't see the original, but nothing beats someone performing their own music.

GingerPirate · 31/08/2024 15:22

Triggered?
I don't even know them.
Why dig them up, though?
Makes less sense than that culture somewhere
in Indonesia, where they pay respect to their deceased.

I don’t want tickets as I don’t like the band
but I can understand the hype - they are an important slice of British music history.
What I don’t like is the fawning press when Liam has been caught on camera physically abusing his girlfriend but we … don’t talk about that.

UnctuousUnicorns · 31/08/2024 15:52

"Because people are miserable and like to make other people as miserable as they are, and there's a lot of snobbery about music"

Ain't that the truth. A few months ago I went to a record store live session and signing by my favourite band, to promote their new album (entry was free with album purchase). Anyway, the local paper ran an article on it. Not sure why it counted as "news", but hey, local rags. 🤷‍♀️

There was a photo of us fans queuing around the block beforehand. This invited the usual reader comments of "Never heard of them" and "Sad". This coming from people likely sat at home on their arses, sneering at a bunch of people who were out in town about to have a great time enjoying seeing a band they love playing live and get their album signed. Who's the sad bastards now. 🤷‍♀️ You have to laugh. 😅

But more sense than this post

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 31/08/2024 16:00

@BlackcurrentPi just because I'm currently expressing my disgust for Oasis doesn't mean I'm incapable of feeling angry about other issues too. But I don't want to send this thread off on a tangent so am sticking to the topic being discussed.

witheringbook · 31/08/2024 16:02

I'm not 'triggered' but I am baffled what all the fuss is about.

Saw them a couple of times back in the day and they were okay but I've seen many better before and since.

For the price as well... ouch.

Still, I hope those who wanted to go got their tickets.

OonaStubbs · 31/08/2024 16:11

I honestly think music and musicians are the most overrated thing there is. Musicians are just people. Why do people go so overboard about it all?

BeerForMyHorses · 31/08/2024 16:11

It is very odd. I can name one oasis song and thing they are a pair of bellends. I still queued to get tickets for my desperate brother who loves them. (Currently winning best sister award, as I actually got them!!!)

HelpMeGetThrough · 31/08/2024 16:26

Agreed.

When I heard, I thought why, you were shit the first time round.

Wimbledonmum1985 · 31/08/2024 16:27

Not triggered but as far from a fan as it’s possible to be. I think the pair of them are particularly awful human beings.
