Why do so many people seem ‘triggered’ by Oasis?

For want of a better word.

If I saw a band I didn’t like were reforming, it wouldn’t stay in my head longer than a split second, it would be absolutely nothing to me.

Yet we’ve had multiple threads from posters demanding to know why anyone is buying tickets, why don’t people agree that they’re shit, how superior their own music taste is and what a better person they are for it (😂). I would never demand to know why somebody likes something I don’t, it just seems so arrogant and the answer so obvious.

If the band are aiming to be a bit ‘marmite’ they’ve clearly got the result they wanted!

😂😂😂😂😂

You’ve missed the entire point about personal perception and subjectivity

What a characteristically pathetic article. Peak Guardian. Some miserable non-binary flump is not happy. The football lads at school made fun of him! Waah! Stop the press! So lazy and pointless to look back at 30 years ago through the prism of today...and when you do, gosh, how dull and sanctimonious today really is! Don't look back in anger mate! 😄

You're absolutely proving his point there.

I mean, if you want to make light of one lad being bundled by nine or ten blokes all putting the boot in to his face and ribs because he didn't look like them, so instantly had to be gay and 'deserved it' for existing, go right ahead. But it won't make people who remember exactly what it was like for Goths, Metalheads and other young men at the time feel any differently.

imo theres an element of snobbery that people feel they are better than those who are trying to get Oasis tickts

I agree with this, which I dont get, we all like different things including musical taste and there must be sething wrong with people that think they are better than others based on this

God yes. The abuse just for dressing differently. Stuff thrown at you in the street because your hair was dyed black and you wore combat boots with your teeny tiny skirt. 'Goth' spat at you by other kids. You just took it as normal. Even my dad said I shouldn't complain, because I'd chosen to stand out!

Maybe that's what it was. Oasis fans were a pack, but a bigger pack than mine.

You can’t blame a band for their fans behaviour. Remember when Marilyn Manson was blamed for kids committing heinous violence?

I don't think I would be getting one of the later dates if I wanted to go

No I wondered that. I think there’s a pretty high chance of everything kicking off early in and one or other of them buffering off.

Desperatefornachos · 31/08/2024 13:37

I think there was a place for all types of music and groups in the 90’s, I don’t remember Oasis fans hating goths etc. I liked indie, old school house, rock, 90’s R & B, just a mix really, I don’t remember different groups or fights between them.

Desperatefornachos · 31/08/2024 13:39

Also, which one of them grabbed their partner by the throat? Wasn’t that the singer from Kasabian

malificent7 · 31/08/2024 13:39

I was an Oasis fan and managed to have goth friends etc. I wasn't a ladette.

fundbund · 31/08/2024 13:41

The nuns at my school told us Marilyn Manson was evil.

Turns out they were right.......

“Miserable non-binary flump” is incredible 🤣🤣🤣

Mainly because whichever of the brothers was a nasty little oik (never cared enough to remember the name), sneering at everyone he laid eyes on and generally being a mediocre human being.

Given the misogyny around at the moment it's not an entire surprise the queues are phenomenal.

Because they’re a successful working class band. I ❤️ them. If you’re not interested look away x

Going to an Oasis gig makes you a misogynist? This just gets better and better! (And more bonkers!)

It's not even just that, I have seen a massive amount of 'snobbery' among fans. My generation suggesting the younger shouldn't be doing becsue they are not OG fans. I think people are just arseholes really - it doesn't matter the subject, so many people just want to put others down.

If younger people are getting into the music of our favourite artists I think we should be really please tbh, not acting as if they don't deserve to be at a show because they were not around in the 90s

CautiousLurker · 31/08/2024 13:53

No idea either - wasn’t a band I bothered with when I was young, but my DH really wants to go and take our teens. And I love to go with because it’s a bit of nostalgia, some banging tunes I’ve got to know well over the years, and DH reckons that after years as solo artists they’ve upped their game so should put on a great show.

Am 61216 in the queue for the night we picked, so he may have to settle for the 21 Pilot tickets I scored for him and the elder DC.

Didimum · 31/08/2024 13:54

Because MN loves misery. They hate Taylor Swift, Oasis, positivity threads, people spending and earning good money, people who trust their husbands, people happy with the government. They hate happiness and must destroy it.

circular1985 · 31/08/2024 13:54

I love oasis- they are the soundtrack to my teens. Luckily I got tickets today so can't wait. Also love Taylor swift and saw her in concert- she was amazing and I love her even more, as does my dd.

Not makes you one as such but like attracts like. I'm probably looking at 90s attitudes through today's lens 🤷‍♀️

HRTQueen · 31/08/2024 13:55

Oasis always seemed to bring out strong emotions

they were celebrated as the modern Beatles and compared to the Beatles this annoyed many people and it was at a time when being a Brit was supposedly great, but part of this was was celebrating their often loutish behaviour (they were not the only people to be celebrated for acting this way) which many found embarrassing why were we celebrating such behaviour

but their music has a few good sing along anthems I am not surprised there is lots of interest they are the complete opposite to carefully pr managed bands/artists that are around now

CelestialNexus · 31/08/2024 13:58

Because it's just so fucking dull, and all over the news.

It's EVERYWHERE! here, news, friends, Facebook, colleagues - some of us are like "oh that's vaguely interesting "

Liam Gallagher. There's footage of it online.
