Why do so many people seem ‘triggered’ by Oasis?

For want of a better word.

If I saw a band I didn’t like were reforming, it wouldn’t stay in my head longer than a split second, it would be absolutely nothing to me.

Yet we’ve had multiple threads from posters demanding to know why anyone is buying tickets, why don’t people agree that they’re shit, how superior their own music taste is and what a better person they are for it (😂). I would never demand to know why somebody likes something I don’t, it just seems so arrogant and the answer so obvious.

If the band are aiming to be a bit ‘marmite’ they’ve clearly got the result they wanted!

Because it's just so fucking dull, and all over the news.

It's EVERYWHERE! here, news, friends, Facebook, colleagues - some of us are like "oh that's vaguely interesting "

I think it’s nice to have something to focus on that isn’t about stabbings, riots, CoL, or labour’s misery message, myself

Blueybanditbingochilli · 31/08/2024 13:51

Going to an Oasis gig makes you a misogynist? This just gets better and better! (And more bonkers!)

To be fair, Noel has said and done some terrible things regarding women. Doesn’t stop people loving Michael Jackson though. Fans are gonna fan 🤣

Because MN loves misery. They hate Taylor Swift, Oasis, positivity threads, people spending and earning good money, people who trust their husbands, people happy with the government. They hate happiness and must destroy it.

Wow. Chilling but accurate I guess.

Yes here you are.

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 31/08/2024 14:07

Oasis may not have been trying to be role models but they definitely proved you could get away with being arses and get fame, money etc. lads did try to emulate them whether they wanted them too or not.

And I still don't think Oasis were 'the' sound of the 90s.

Bogginsthe3rd · 31/08/2024 14:09

Middle class snobbery usually.

BlackcurrentPi · 31/08/2024 14:09

So some snobby bloke doesn’t like them so all their fans are meant to not be excited?

This is so snobby. Just because YOU don’t like someone/thing doesn’t mean the other fans can’t be excited about it. Doesn’t mean people shouldn’t be wanting to read and write about it.

It’s such a small minded point of view.

And so many people falling all over themselves to desperately criticise Oasis. Why? They’re not my favourite band, I won’t be going to see them on tour, but they’ve got some really cool songs with are synonymous with the 90s and loads of people enjoy them.

Why waste your time trying to tear them down and try and make other people agree with you? Get over yourself.

Come off it, Liam got into a few slanging matches and that was it.

I’m more concerned about the famous musicians who have sexually abused others. Where’s your anger for Chris Brown? RHCP? The Rolling Stones? P. Diddy?

Oasis may have had attitudes that were part of their ‘appeal‘, but it was just a look for them. There are bigger fish to fry

Demonhunter · 31/08/2024 14:11

We were an indie/brit pop/grunge loving group in our teens and we never abused anyone who wasn't. I was the biggest indie/alt rock head of them and I remember when I first got Definitely Maybe, it ended getting passed around about 9 people so after that any album I got, people borrowed and theb bought and the love for so many indie/alt rock bands arose. I was chuffed when they all loved The Bends!

Also with regards to songs, I think some people probably heard their radio stuff and judged it from that. IMO their album tracks and B sides were much better. The Masterplan is a superior album to some bands A side albums.

velvetcoat · 31/08/2024 14:13

I dont get it either- I'd rather poke my eye with a blunt pencil than spend hours and hours online waiting to be 30,000 in the queue for overpriced tickets to a mediocre band but if others like them then good for them- I hope they get their tickets and have a fab time.

What I am also laughing about is Generation Z (and I am one) posting all over social media that they should get preference for tickets because "they saw them in the 90s" and that younger generations shouldn't be allowed to access the tickets before them. Why?? - it's not illegal to like a band from a generation that isnt your own FGS. The outrage on both sides is laughable.

Someone on here earlier commented that someone they know got tickets but she’s ’only 26’ as though she has no right to go an watch a band she enjoys. Presume that poster only listens to music from when they were born onwards. Such an arrogant viewpoint.

It is! So flipping weird.

Andoutcomethewolves · 31/08/2024 14:23

I can only assume many of these are people that got involved in the the infamous long-running 90s 'band feud' and are Blur fans 😅. I was a bit young to be too involved but according to my older siblings it all got pretty heated! They were fans of Pulp more so than either Oasis or Blur so stayed out of it ha.

Personally I can't get worked up either way. Oasis have maybe two songs I actively like (as do Blur, actually) and quite a few I'd probably switch over if they came on the radio, so I definitely wouldn't pay to see them but I don't HATE them!

Desperatefornachos · 31/08/2024 14:24

@Meatwallet You’re saying Oasis were on the same level as X factor contestants 🤣 even if not a fan, come on now

Edited

When we were young (late Gen X) and were listening to The Rolling Stones (my dad loved them) and The Kinks etc, the older gens loved it "good to know you young uns' still like proper music" 😂

Desperatefornachos · 31/08/2024 14:32

@Meatwallet Ahh apologies I just re read your post, I thought it said they were no better than others on the X factor… I was thinking 😳

imo theres an element of snobbery that people feel they are better than those who are trying to get Oasis tickts

This, its an acceptable outlet for rampant hateful classism
