To think my neighbours win a prize for being the first people to

Put up their CHRISTMAS TREE!

I heard them arguing last night when getting ready for bed and only half heartedly paid attention that it had something to do with a light being broken. We both had our windows open but the discussion was pretty loud and they only live across the road. However, at no point did I even remotely consider that they were talking about Christmas lights. I shut the curtains, went to bed and when I woke up this morning I'm met with a fully decorated Christmas tree standing full view in the front window!

So do they win some sort of prize it's still the bloody summer holidays or has someone else beaten them to it?

Then retailers compete with each other spending millions on their Christmas adverts.

Most people skip the adverts or watch streaming services with no adverts.

Plus the adverts have tons of food which you need a whole street’s worth of ovens to cook everything

Went to The Range in mid July and had Halloween crap in there already.

Can’t believe it. The world’s gone mad - I can’t do the Halloween decor, housework is enough. I can’t keep up!

PrincessHoneysuckle · 30/08/2024 11:01

Fucking hell i sometimes put mine up end of November and I thought that was early

dawngreen · 30/08/2024 11:07

Ask them why and solve the mystery.

A few years ago DH and I were having a week in Norfolk in early October. We went to Cromer one day and were bemused to see that there was a Christmas tree up on the pier complete with lights. We wondered whether Cromer got really quiet out of season so they decided to skip straight from holiday period to Christmas.

Anyway we thought no more about it until it was nearly Christmas and then we noticed that the BBCs seasonal link between programmes that year had been filmed at Cromer so we must have been there while it was going on.

A question to anyone who actually lives in Cromer - did the BBC take the tree down after they had finished filming or did they leave it up?

Maybe the neighbours' house and garden are going to feature on a BBC ident this Christmas.

Mistycactus · 30/08/2024 11:19

I really want you to ask them about it and report back!

EnjoyingTheSilence · 30/08/2024 11:20

What’s the matter with these people. Surely everyone knows you’ve got to decorate for Halloween before you can do Christmas 🎃 👻 😈

ElBandito · 30/08/2024 11:24

Sainsburys have just started selling mince pies. Big displays of them all through our store.

sunraze · 30/08/2024 11:32

It's very strange OP, but when you see them out snd about in the front gardens or whatever, just ask them why they have a Christmas tree in August. It's a reasonable question.

LlamaNoDrama · 30/08/2024 11:43

I don't believe you. We need photographic evidence Grin

GasPanic · 30/08/2024 11:48

Maybe the light broke and one was fed up at going on at the other about fixing it and said if they didn't do it then they would put up a Christmas tree with lights instead.

I'm not about to take the title of weirdo on the street away from them by taking pictures of my neighbours house and posting it on the Internet. Grin

If I see them then I will definitely ask but there will unfortunately be no photographic evidence sorry to disappoint. 😀

Oh heck no. There's absolutely no way I'm having this speculated on the thread and not shutting down that nonsense. 😆 I can categorically say I have no tree up and if MNHQ want a virtual house tour to confirm that I'm happy to oblige. 😅

Mine goes up in December along with all the other rational people. 😆

Edited

😁😁😁

Mynewsofa · 31/08/2024 07:43

I've already got my Halloween stuff out but you can't see it from outside. Christmas decs will go up Nov 1st.

It makes me happy.

Jiski · 31/08/2024 08:28

Maybe one of them is sick (or a family member) and it’s a dying wish to have one last Christmas?

We did actually have a Christmas in August once because we had family that were over from another Country so it was a random chance to have a celebration together as Christmas is our favourite.

Was just about to say this.

Emmz1510 · 31/08/2024 08:37

So in summary, unless they are totally crazy and Christmas daft, it’s either a terminal illness in the family, some kind of photo shoot (or maybe a Christmas decoration competition where the entries have to be in by October?!) or a family member or friend from abroad visiting and they want to celebrate Christmas.
This reminds me of the Jools Holland New Year show. Always blows my mind that it’s apparently filmed in, like, July!

My husband is going to be deployed Oct-Feb, and we're having a "bonus" Christmas mid-Feb where we're having the tree up etc and Santa is visiting etc. maybe something like this? 🥺🎄🎅🏻

I wonder if they are about to go abroad, do they have a holiday home? Perhaps go there for three months then back at Christmas. Meaning they wouldn't want to put it up then. So doing it now to save them a job when they come back?

wooda180 · 31/08/2024 18:39

Must not let my husband see this or he'll put ours up!! The man loves Christmas

KerryBlues · 31/08/2024 18:46

Bet they take it down at midnight on
Christmas Day 😁

1974devon · 31/08/2024 19:08

That's v crazily early so maybe there is a family member that isn't well.
I tend to notice people putting them up from early November which I dint get..but the ones that put them up super early as rney love a tree so much...always take the thing down on boxing day as want the space back?!
As a child ours was usually up mid December/week before Xmas but left up til 12th night or just before back.to school
