To think we should all boycott John Lewis until they respect their female employees

This is a letter from a female employee of John Lewis's Cheadle branch. John Lewis told its female employees that they have to share toilets and locker rooms with trans identifying men. The employee says this is having a terrible effect especially on colleagues who have experienced trauma relating to men or who have religious reasons to not want to share a space with someone who is the opposite sex.

This thread is literally about the fact the OP would like to deny transwomen the rights that they’ve been given by John Lewis, Wes. Read from the beginning….

Avoiding the question/s as per. Quelle surprise.

So trans women don’t have the right to use a bathroom or changing room?

You would like (as I understand it) for trans women not to be able to use the changing rooms or loos specific to the gender they identify as. Do you disagree with that as a description?

Define gender identity. What about those who do not subscribe to or believe in gender identify?

I think biolgical males should not use changing rooms or loos for biological females.

If someone in a 45 year old body, identified as a 16 year old, would you advocate for them to go into the space designated for the 16 year old? That’s their inner identify after all.

Why would you not campaign for biological males to be more accommodating to males with a different ‘gender identity’, whatever you describe that to be. Why would you not want to advocate for third spaces?

For me personally, it’s not the activist bit. It’s the ‘men’s rights’ bit, when what I am advocating for is the rights of transwomen (who I am clear are women). But I suspect you (and your fellow GC posters now expressing disbelief that it is considered offensive) already knew that.

You are advocating for the rights of men,the fact that you imagine them to be something else doesn't change what they are.

Elbone · 31/08/2024 20:58

Look, I get it. Being on the side of men and belittling women is an evolutionary survival instinct in women.
@ElleWoods15 at al. I forgive you. But I will continue to work against you.

Women’s rights are not solely yours to hand over to men.

How incredibly patronising. Maybe @ElleWoods15 isn’t interested in your forgiveness and maybe also has a valid opinion even if it happens to be different to yours.

@ElleWoods15 thinks men can women. I struggle to see how that could be positioned as a 'valid opinion'. On what grounds?

I think anyone who comes out with 'males can be women' which isn't a difference of opinion but factually incorrect, insists that men have a right to be in female spaces to the detriment of women (and a big fuck you to boot), belittling women's lived experience of things like sexual assault, denying women who for religious reasons want to be away from men in their single SEX spaces and women who just don't fucking want to share their spaces with boundary pushing men, would do well to get away with a little patronising post.

Every single poster knows that a man can’t be a woman. Some are willing to pretend otherwise for reasons that must make sense to them.

Everyone is, of course, entitled to their opinion. They’re just not entitled to make everyone behave as if their delusion is fact.

Has it occurred to any of the transphobia-accusers that the women you’re accusing of transphobia are probably the same sort of women who’ve fought sexism, racism, homophobia - all the ‘isms’ - probably before some of you were even aware there was prejudice in the world. We’re not bigots. Why would we suddenly become bigots now? Can you not see what’s happening?

Duckinglunacy · 31/08/2024 22:21

Our local JL is ridiculous on changing rooms anyway. They have dedicated children’s changing rooms but they are often not in use. Their solution is to send children to the next over set of changing rooms, in the women’s department. This includes teen and pre-teen boys. Absolutely horrific for my kids who very much didn’t want to be in the women’s changing room (the men’s are on a totally different floor and miles away and the staff wanted them in the women’s). The other women using the facilities also didn’t want my young boys in there (and the noise and fuss) and the staff couldn’t care less. Couldn’t even empathise.

Interesting you say the rights John Lewis have given to them are you finally now accepting that they do not have these rights in Law?

Cailleach1 · 31/08/2024 22:28

Interesting, that was quick. I don’t know why I got deleted. You call bullsh1t on magic thinking, and poof. Maybe magic really does exist. Not quackery at all.

I do apologise. A man is a dolphin if he says so. See, I totally agree. Now I’m not quite sure what has to be done to achieve that (previously thought impossible by mere mortals) state of transformation. And the trampling of women’s and children’s rights is the least we can do to indulge men. See, I totally agree.

Women will be expecting they shouldn’t have their rights, security, opportunities and very humanity trampled on if we’re not careful…

I mean it could be calling people ‘weasels with suspicious motives’ that got you deleted.

But you keep telling yourself it’s because you’re standing up for women’s rights….

But surely men can turn into real weasels, if they really, really believe and proclaim they have the species soul of a weasel? Isn’t that to be accepted now, according to what appears to be your ideological belief in magic?

The term weasel is a well known term and applies to someone doing something dodgy. Anyone pushing unevidenced, hocus pocus, anti scientific claptrap would be a dodgy activity to most people, and would be a ‘weasel with suspicious motive’ (to quote your post now) in my opinion. Don’t you think? I’m sure the term ‘snake oil salesman’ was based on such activities in the past. As an example, some people sell fake medicines. They deceive and present something false as real. They take advantage of people and can harm them. At best, they don’t give the treatment needed.

I am quite sure no man would ever, ever metaphorically piss down someone’s back, and telling them it is raining. Most certainly not some man who tells you he has become a woman. Only the nicest, soundest men say that. It’s a kinda magic, all of it.

Mind you, the Cass Report has pulled the curtain back a little. Rigorous scientists with integrity and expertise, and not in the service of a poorly evidenced ideology. What do they know, eh?

For myself, I would rather be deleted for voicing opinions about women/ childrens rights than consistently pushing to get men into womens spaces.

I wonder WHY some men are determined to get in knowing it will upset women and children?

Is it:
A power trip?
A"win"?
Jealousy?
Curiosity?
Never got told NO by their mothers when growing up?

What is it exactly?

Imagine being a man and spending your days upsetting women by constantly saying we're going to come into your toilets.

The men I know think this is weird.

Hi all, thanks to everyone who has contributed to this discussion. There are clearly firmly held beliefs and it is unlikely anyone who already has a position on this subject will change their minds. However, many people still have not thought about what is happening to women's spaces and the effect the mantra 'trans women are women' has on women's spaces. I hope that one or two people who have read the comments now have a clearer idea of what's at stake. I think anyone who reads about the case of the nurses in Darlington must realise that we have a problem if this is allowed to continue. The Equality Act makes it completely legal to have separate female spaces and to provide third gender neutral spaces for people who identify as transgender. John Lewis appears to be alienating both its partners and its traditional customer base and the only way this is going to stop happening is if we make our feelings known.
