What threads have you seen on here that have lodged themselves into your brain?

For me it's the lady who was gifted a periscope by her dh which was completely random and hilarious.

Also the lady who upset a crow and never came back! Assumed she and her dog were eaten by the crows.

Was that Anne, Barbara and Colin or similar pseudonyms?

Yes ! Was the husband Dick ?

Siouxtse1 · 28/08/2024 21:09

I think some people are referring to posts by someone called SecretJob, or something similar, but can't find the original thread, so perhaps it got deleted?

AcrossthePond55 · 28/08/2024 21:47

Haven't RTFT so not sure if these have been mentioned.

This was probably 10 years ago or so. A poster was an alcoholic with a severely ill DH. She was struggling so hard to stop drinking because her DH needed her to care for him. She'd vow to stop, we'd encourage her but a day or so later she'd say she'd started drinking. I remember her because at one time she lived near where I had lived in the US so we shared memories of that place and other places we'd both visited. She abruptly stopped posting.

Seoladair's threads, although I believe she's still here under a different name.

A poster whose wealthy husband was vilely abusive and controlling. She managed to leave him and we continued communicating via PM as she walked her 'road' to a new life. She had met a new man and was pregnant by him when she must have deregg'd from MN as all her posts and PMs disappeared.

I hope they are all doing well.

CinnamonJellyBeans · 28/08/2024 21:58

Gosh, just remembered another one, that was probably unremarkable to most:

A posters DH was foaming at the mouth at the way the BBC had done some public opinion snapshots about the thoughts of individuals including a kid called Max, who gravely gave his considered opinion garnered in his 8 years of existence.

"WHAT WOULD MAX THINK?"

Can't stop shouting it myself now, whenever the BBC asks random person on a market stall what they think of the Indian Space programme/inflation in Moscow/Fracking in California.

That's always stayed with me

How angry he looked

I’m so intrigued by this nightclub man one, if anyone has a link to it (or can summarise what happened!)

Echobelly · 28/08/2024 22:39

Not one thread, but I sometimes think about all the women who have posted about wanting to leave an abusive husband who has told her that he'll sue for full custody of the kids and he'll get it because he'll tell everyone she's mentally ill and the courts will believe him.

I hope they are all living happily without their kids without their kids' dad who was totally bullshitting about it because he wouldn't cope with or want full custody of the kids in a million years.

Pamela, still think about that one especially when having a "bad day" which is never actually that bad in the grand scheme of things.

Unfortunately it nearly derailed towards the end but that aside it was heartbreaking.

Yes, Pamela. She was an inspiration.

Powderpudding · 28/08/2024 23:03

There was a post a year or 2 ago called cringiest thing you’ve ever said or something like that. One poster said that for some unknown reason was with her boyfriend’s parents who didn’t like her, they asked her a question and she just replied ‘blortnick’ then stood staring at them. She had no idea why she said it or what she was trying to say. I remember me and my husband absolutely howling with laughter.

Klippityklopp · 28/08/2024 23:04

There was one from about 19 years ago where a posters husband was killed in a car crash, it was awful, I think the poster might still be around.
More recently the water gun at the park thread and the Maui thread

Blortnick

It was the funniest thing I’ve ever read on here and it still makes me laugh now, I can’t find the thread anymore but I remember absolutely creasing with laughter, and the humiliation that poor woman must have felt!!

everythingthelighttouches · 28/08/2024 23:20

A lighthearted one that I enjoyed was

Badger and rice

it was just hilarious

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 28/08/2024 23:25

Ages ago there was a thread about random things that had got posters into trouble as children. Even now, every so often, I get the uncontrollable giggles remembering the poster who had gotten a row for eating all the buttons off the TV remote control!!

Alphabet Street was pure gold. I know there were suggestions that it had all been made up; but if so, it was so skilfully, entertainingly done.

Personally, I object to people making up hilarious (false) situations like that being called trolls at all. Trolls are nasty, vindictive, deceitful, manipulative, negative, deliberately upsetting, controlling etc. To me, somebody presenting a harmless, brilliantly-crafted work of top-comedy abstract fiction like that for our combined community delight and engagement is absolutely not a troll at all.

She’s still around. She’s got a very distinctive writing style I can spot a mile off.

Does anyone remember a thread from a man whose wife was seeing a therapist who had convinced her she’d been abused by her father as a child. Everything seemed to point to it being a false memory but she totally believed it and it was wrecking her family life. The poster had been investigating the therapist and thought he was a charlatan. It may well have been a troll thread but the poster seemed genuine, and at his wits end. They had a son that the wife was neglecting because of her perceived trauma.

There are so many trolls I always thought the one about a lady finding her long lost family through dna was odd. She said she had an inappropriate relationship with her brother and eventually cut ties with them all. The very next day there was another poster saying she found her father and sister through dna and it was causing family drama.

iamtheblcksheep · 28/08/2024 23:54

I remember a thread where people were going into a shop to buy a black plastic bird and the shop assistant was very confused. It was hilarious. I’ve tried to find it some but think I made it up in my head as it’s not there.

The lady that had been in a terrible relationship. She’d left and came back last year to say she’d been living in a caravan but all was now ok. I think of her often. I hope she’s ok.

I was over invested in the missing glasses thread. I wonder if they’re all still friends?

Snoopy1612 · 28/08/2024 23:56

One from relationships board, stuckinpollyannamode, her leaving and subsequent divorce from Geller. It was great to see her and her girls lives blossoming after she left. Wonderful writing style and sharing the bumps and laughs along the way

TheFormidableMrsC · 29/08/2024 00:24

@leopardski I've probably missed detail but my recall of the nightclub man was that a poster went to nightclub (Southend in Essex possibly?) and there was a man near the bar with distinctive clothing staring at her in a menacing way. He stood out because his clothes were from a different era (I think 70's). She was glad to get away. Years later she had to go back to the same building via work and there he was, in the same clothes, standing staring at her. I don't think it was a standalone thread, it was within a "woo" thread but it's often brought up here.

BebbanburgIsMine · 29/08/2024 00:25

Expat and her daughter Ailidh's illness and death.

That was so sad 😓

@sallyanne33 and others who mentioned me , thank you for remembering.
The colour of the toothbrush was because I wasn't allowed anything red.
I'm doing well, can't quite believe it's nearly five years.
Took me three years to get all dental work done due to the forced bulimia.
Nightmares due to the abuse still happen occasionally but certainly not as bad now.
I'm still in the same safe area but no longer in the safe house. I'm still in the job I took a month after arriving here.
I'm happy on my own , living a very quiet life.
I couldn't have done it without the support from all the love on here that day to spur me on .

I'm really glad to hear you're doing well! Keep going Flowers

TheBlessedCheesemaker · 29/08/2024 01:27

Many that have been mentioned, plus Kate and the girls from way back.

The funniest for me was a thread that started with the OP ranting about Dolphins being bastards. Classic MN humour.

And the OP (LisaLisa?) who somehow mixed up her dirty knickers with whatever she had actually meant to pack for her son to present in a ‘show and tell’..,
