What threads have you seen on here that have lodged themselves into your brain?

For me it's the lady who was gifted a periscope by her dh which was completely random and hilarious.

Also the lady who upset a crow and never came back! Assumed she and her dog were eaten by the crows.

That may of been me .. with the support and advice I received here nearly five years ago I fled in a hire car I had hidden from him and left while he was out. I purchased a red toothbrush on the way as it was symbolic to my dire situation.

Was your username 'RedToothbrush'? I remember you, I have often wondered how you are doing now. I seem to remember your ex husband was a particularly nasty bastard, I'm so glad you got away from him. How are you?

Emptyandsad · 28/08/2024 10:25

The Irish mother with cancer. Eventually her husband came on to tell us that she had died. Still makes me teary to think about it

Sideorderofchips · 28/08/2024 10:29

Lemon drizzle cake
Penguin bollards
Poo pouffe

Andwegoroundagain · 28/08/2024 10:30

There was one Jl2000 or some such user name and she lived with a horrendous partner and stepkids who were all awful to her and eventually she realised she didn't need to put up with that shit and left. She did post a few updates and it seemed like she'd definitely turned a corner but still was so sad that he had never loved her and she'd given so much to that relationship

whyNotaNice · 28/08/2024 10:35

the recent ones: the lady whose husband never went on holidays with her and the family and went to Europe alone

the lady with pregnant daughter with Epilepsy

Rigatone · 28/08/2024 10:37

Red toothbrush for me too! Hope you are doing well now.

Also, the poster whose abusive DH had calmly unravelled her knitting and rolled up a neat ball of wool and left it for her to find in the morning. I found that really sinister.

There was one about a DH ruining days out at museums by farting all day. I got told off for being immature on that thread for finding it so funny.

Also the one that started out as a thread about funny stomach feelings that got filled up really quickly and then the follow up thread was called "It wasn't wind it was a baby!" and she shared a pic of her surprise newborn.

zingally · 28/08/2024 10:38

Screaming in the Sistine chapel has to be up there. Every comment (and attempts at justification from the author) had me roaring with laughter.

There was a series of threads, maybe 3-4 years ago now from an older, slightly vulnerable-sounding lady who was being harassed by a younger woman who lived nearby. This younger woman had a history of drug abuse (I think), and this older woman had agreed to be godmother of the latest baby, but didn't really want to be. Then she started a thread about doing all the cooking for a male neighbour friend, but his kitchen was too cluttered, and he wanted his meals at a funny time. And then it went onto how she wanted to cut contact with him, but she still had the key to a horse yard his family owned, and how could she return this key and cut him off at the same time? But she didn't really want to hand the key back because she has fond memories of this yard and her horse that died yonks ago, and there's still some old feed buckets and blankets there that she might want at some point.

She had a very distinctive writing style, and was very articulate. But every idea others had to help her, she had a reason why it couldn't work and poo-poohed everything.

I haven't seen her here since the horse yard thread. But I still think of her a lot! I hope she's in a happier, more settled place.

Redrosesandsunsets · 28/08/2024 10:38

Yes JennyWren. I was trying to remember her name and story. I wonder how her daughter and husband are doing. She was young and her child so little.

my own kids are grown up now so I only come back for practical other stuff but I remember coming for more parental advice and ideas too. And I remember these sad stories. It’s heartbreaking to follow but there’s been a lot of support for people going through loss too. And of course take stories. You know the odd story pops up and people say wait it’s the school holidays it’s just bored kids stringing people along.

To want to run away | Mumsnet

Today is my 25th birthday, likely the last birthday I will ever have. I have recently been diagnosed with a rare cancer, and the prognosis is not good...

There was a hilarious thread about leaving your clothes on the line overnight and someone said that the spiders would be rubbing their privates on them. I think they changed their name to SpidersWilliesOnYourFrillies!

Yes, the recent one of the woman whose husband just randomly went on holiday to France on his own, was so bizarre. The OP has seen the light and is leaving him, but has now bowed out of the thread.
I think that one will stick with me for a while.

WheresMySupportCat · 28/08/2024 10:41

I've been on here for way too long but the one that really hit me was the one where a much-esteemed MNetter Riven was on her knees supporting her very disabled daughter and was at the end of her rope facing a lack of support. That thread hit the headlines and David Cameron met with Riven IRL to discuss the needs of disabled children and families.

She left MN (at least under that name) and I very often think of her and hope she and her family are doing well.

My favourite thread of all time was the one titled something like 'There's an elderly Korean lady in my garden and I want to go out'. That was a really lovely, gentle, meditative thread that I re-read sometimes when life is stressy for me.

Also- the thread about the booble plate that fell behind the toilet. I think that was the thread that was my gateway MN drug.

AnywhereAnyoneAnyTime · 28/08/2024 10:45

Why would you think so? People wouldn't troll about this sort of stuff or at least I hope so. people absolutely do.

I’m not saying that poster did, but there have been some horrendous troll posts over the years. Oliver’s army, the poster with the twins She lost prematurely, I can’t remember her name but she posted all over the baby loss groups until someone outed her by showing that the pictures of her dead babies had been lifted from the internet.

There have been numerous DV posts, serious illness, children’s deaths and the list goes on.

But the thing about troll posts is that because they’re deleted people who weren’t there at the time don’t see them so don’t get how it happens.

JohnCravensNewsround · 28/08/2024 10:53

Huge pram in the hall.
Poster started off saying neighbours leaving pram in the hall
All the usual responses. Eventually she posted a pic. It was the biggest pram in the tiniest place. I've always thought about it when a thread goes all one way, when actually we all have our own mental image of a pram and a hall.

Itiswhysofew · 28/08/2024 10:54

There is a tiny elderly Korean lady in my garden and I want to go out - absolutely delightful

One about someone's neighbour changing their own window into a door without permission, expecting to be able to use her garden, or something like that.

The couple who drove miles to collect a cat that needed to be rehomed. It was a real adventure. I think the couple actually separated not long afterwards, which was upsetting.

wonderings2 · 28/08/2024 10:54

There was a thread about someone that worked with a trans women who was causing carnage and making everyone's life a misery but none of the higher ups would deal with them. I struggled to follow it as the OP had to keep editing the posts to remove outing information but it was mind-blowing at the time, Im sure there weas an incident where they insisted on being able to use sanitary products left in the toilets along with other batshit stuff.

I always wondered what the outcome was in the end.

Jeckyl · 28/08/2024 10:56

It’s been mentioned a couple of times already but Sobsanta’s thread about her 2yo daughter who died in her sleep after being diagnosed with tonsillitis in A&E the night before. I think of her so often. It was just one of the saddest and most shocking things I’d read on here. My heart hurts just thinking about their pain.

She relinquished her anonymity to talk about her - her name was Wyatt Rose.

I came on to say you, you were and are incredible. Your username stuck with me as it was your symbolic independent act! I hope you are well and think of you often.

I’m with you on the crow post. Where did she go? Has she been captured by them and held captive as a warning to all other local dog walkers?!

I hated Pom Bears, Supershooters, penis beaker etc - found them super cliquey and not that funny.

I always remember the woman who washed her potatoes in the dishwasher

More recently, was completely outraged by the mean cow who wouldn't leave a tip on a £200+ restaurant bill

She’s already posted on this thread! Page 11!

Thank you, I hadn’t quite caught up on the thread but this is incredible that she has responded - amazing

Beautiful3 · 28/08/2024 11:04

Yes! It was so scary because someone else from the same area had seen it too! Thanks for linking it, I've reread the whole thread. It actually gave me goosebumps again!

SlashBeef · 28/08/2024 11:17

Not very profound but it's 'snapped and farted' for me. I was reading it in my car waiting to do the school run and it made me cackle so much I was crying. It was just what I needed at the time to cheer me up.

MinkyWinky · 28/08/2024 11:17

Two that haven't been mentioned and were from a while back.

I need witnesses for my wedding. Two Mumsnetters attended https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/mumsnet_classics/1329673-Could-anyone-help-me-out-on-Friday-morning-need-witnesses-for-my-wedding

Do you have a zombie plan?
https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/mumsnet_classics/310476-so-how-many-of-you-have-a-zombie-plan

Finally there was one, where someone was going on a blind date, but decided not to go and another MNer went along to the zoo to see what he looked like.

Me too- the best bit was his comment "those scotch eggs were a bit greasy"

Hilarious!

Yes, that was priceless! 👌
