What threads have you seen on here that have lodged themselves into your brain?

For me it's the lady who was gifted a periscope by her dh which was completely random and hilarious.

Also the lady who upset a crow and never came back! Assumed she and her dog were eaten by the crows.

I remember one from a few years ago about a woman asking if she was being unreasonable for leaving her abusive (physically and abusive) husband during lockdown. She was worried she would get picked up by the police due to restrictions that were put in place. Last I heard, she'd made it safely to her sister's house in London. Think she left while she had a window of opportunity where he was a the gym or out for a run or something.

I wonder how she's getting on these days...

I wept buckets reading this one

Me too it kept being resurrected even after her daughter updated she had passed away.😪

The one that haunts me & that I think about the most is the thread by Purple Lampshades - such an awful situation for her and her son and how manipulation can so easily affect any of us. I'm so hoping to read some good news ftom her soon. Thinking of Purple often.

Same here, I hope they’re ok.

CoffeeLover90 · 28/08/2024 11:34

To those who posted the link. Thank you. I'm crying.
We went to the Sistine Chappell the day after and I ended up screaming at the MichaelAngelo. A number of tourists tried to console me but DH just walked off muttering "for fucks sake".

I still re-read that if I’m feeling down 😅

That was a rip off of Alexander Mccall Smith book.

Jellybeanbag · 28/08/2024 11:35

How can i find the classics thread please? I'd love to see what threads are on there.

anon4net · 28/08/2024 11:43

The woman last year who escaped DV and was on a bus to a little flat I think in Scotland with her 2 DC. She posted little things she noticed and did and you could feel the incredible sense of freedom and wonder she had. The joy at being safe. I still think of ner now and then and hope she and her children are thriving.

ClearFruit · 28/08/2024 11:49

Riven and her disabled DD. That has always stayed with me.

Also, on a lighter note, the pregnant woman who went swimming with her DH but forgot to put her bikini bottoms on..... "I can see your minge!!" So, so funny.

Mexican house thief

france one where the husband fucked off to and came back thinking all was well but his wife was/is leaving him but she’s left the thread now and I wish her well.
penis beaker 🤮

Apolloneuro · 28/08/2024 11:56

The one a year or so ago where a women’s cat was shut in the empty house next door. She pushed fish sticks through the letter box to it. 😂

If it's the same one I'm thinking about she did update not too long ago and they were very happy and settled!

Penetration man for the funniest thread.

Best phrase ever on mumsnet: "Suzie Quattro's fat nan". Makes me snort with laughter and I haven't been able to wear a leather jacket since reading it.

OMG the suzi quattro's fat nan thread. I found it again a year or so ago and cried with laughter at it all over again.

housethatbuiltme · 28/08/2024 12:03

I read the Sistine chapel and while I know its mumsnet so possibly just someone being weird I have recently discovered there is a mental health condition that can cause it.

Stendhal Syndrome - a psychosomatic condition causing rapid heart beat, crying, panic, sweating, confusion, fainting and even hallucinations when exposed to art or items of beauty.

Its believed to be a variant of a panic attacks and while rare in general day to day life it is very commonly occurring at famous art sites like the Mona Lisa, David and the Sistine Chapel.

FeltCarrot · 28/08/2024 12:03

Poster such as Marmalade Twatkins and Cupcakes and Bunting always made me laugh. Wasn’t there a funny story about a lemon drizzle cake at a village fete once? (Hoping someone with a better memory can recall it!)

trying29 · 28/08/2024 12:18

I remember a fairly recent thread about a woman with a very controlling husband who was going mad because she had responded to the gardener with the incorrect emoji. It then transpired he controlled her clothing, who she spoke to. She was then going to leave him and I don't know if she updated the thread, I cannot seem to find it. I've been thinking about her for the last couple of weeks

LeeHarper5 · 28/08/2024 12:20

I always remember a thread from a few years ago from a poster I think had Della in her username.
She was an American living with her husband and young daughter. He was a nasty piece of work, awful the her, their child and even their aupair. He was obsessed with using her savings to build an extension sh didn’t want. She covertly made plans to leave while he was at work, having secured a flat to live elsewhere in London. I believe one or possibly both of them worked as solicitors. She used to post in 30days. I often wonder how she is. She used to meet husband in parks to drop child off for weekend visits so he wouldn’t find where she lived. I hope she is safe and happy.

nhvh · 28/08/2024 12:28

One some years back when a mum had found out that her young teenage son (mid teens and with ASD I think) had got a young girl pregnant. The thread was deleted due to privacy concerns but it stuck with me and I wonder how they’re all getting on.

A thread by can’ttypefortears about ten years ago where her husband had left her for another woman.

It was heart breaking

Can you link to that? I can’t find it

It still makes me smile (along with a few other threads and posters).

Mumsnet was really a special place in those days.

It still is in a way, but it has changed and doesn't feel like our little secret place anymore where we all got to know each other and invest in each other.

It's fun to look back and remember! I'm loving these comments 🥰

Me too. I was mostly in the SN boards back then, where we did get to know each other and our kids. Then our kids grew and everyone disappeared.

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 28/08/2024 13:56

@Coinkydink

I think she may have made a reply just a few posts before yours ? so page 12 or 11 as i didn't understand her red toothbrush reference. But since you have posted your comment her reference makes sense ?

Monkeysatonthewall · 28/08/2024 10:21

Why would you think so? People wouldn't troll about this sort of stuff or at least I hope so.
Thinking of Claire's mum often ☹️❤️💐

Monkey, I’m Claire’s mum cousin. The one who realised as the thread infolded that the Op just had to be my cousin who I’d last seen/had any contact with 50 years earlier just before we both went off to live on opposite sides of the world. Once I’d realised it had to be her it was only when someone asked about the hospital she was heading to that I thought - if she says Ninewells then it’s definitely her. And of course it was. After that I then decided to text her sibling who I had only been in touch with again for a few weeks and there in my inbox was a message from her saying - this is what’s happening right now. My father and the ops mother were brother and sister and our family was rather fractured.

My cousins is newly retired and is currently in our home town and I think going forward her and her husband will split their time between San Fransisco
and Dundee. We’re currently sorting out our travel plans for the first 6 months of next year to make sure we’re under the same sky at some stage.

PresidentBarklett · 28/08/2024 14:50

There's one I saw a year or so back that I still think about. Don't think it's been mentioned yet although I've not RTFT.

The OP was really unwell with what sounded like a flu bug or something. Her DH was pissed off she was ill. She was in a hot bath to try to make herself feel better and he came in and pushed her head under the water. I think she was planning on leaving as she was posting.

It was so creepy as it started out reading like another one of those 'my DH is a manchild who can't cope if I get sick' posts and then, out of left field, horrific abuse.

I've since looked for the thread several times but could never find it again. Does anyone remember this or what happened to her?
