For hating the new bottle tops

What is going on?
Why were we not told that from now on we will never drink from a bottle without the half-cocked still-attached top spraying water/ milk/ juice all over our fronts?

Presumably if they were able to open the old bottles then the method or tools used could be adapted to flip the cap back? I think the occupational therapist is best placed to show you

Current devices to open bottle lids do not work on the new attached style lids to open them, never mind grip a small lid, move that lid 180°, put it perfectly on the bottle top and then close it.

Maybe ask your occupational therapist? The mechanism of popping the lid back doesn’t require much force, perhaps they can show you how to do it.

🙄

Just push the lid back away from you until they click, it's not hard.

Those reusing single use plastic bottles - don't. It's not good for.you. Buy a reusable plastic or metal bottle FGS.

In France recently we came across bottles that had little attached flip top lids rather than attached screw top, that seemed like a better idea.

Tell me you know fuck all about struggling with a painful physical condition, without telling me you know fuck all about struggling with a painful physical condition... Hmm

I know right, another day of people implying people with disabilities are the stupid ones, the irony.

Ok, so perhaps your OT is still the best person to speak to here

I’m not getting the ‘don’t screw back on’ comments from so many. Have ihad to redo the fastening a few times because it hasn’t quite gone straight? Yes. Is it obvious that this has happened? Also yes, with a quick glance. Did I sometimes fail to screw on old school tops in the same way? Yes again.

You are despite having being told missing the fact that some people have disabilities or other issues with their hands. Why can't you understand that , to quote your own words to understand not everyone has full use of their hands "is really not difficult ".

Ginmonkeyagain · 26/08/2024 10:01

My grandmother had severe arthritis from her 30s and had to use all manner of aids to help. I get it is very challenging. But I bet everyone complaining about this doesn't have a painful physical condition. They are just being arses and haven't taken a few seconds to work it out.

The flip top lids they have in France would be better for most people with dexterity issues as they require much less power and manual dexterity to open, you simply push up a flip lid up. I think it would be good if we adopted those.

I squeeze all the air out of a bottle and put the lid back on to stop the bottle expanding. It saves room in my recycling. I thought everyone did this.
I dont think I've ever lost a bottle lid, or recycled one without it firmly screwed onto the bottle.

Sirzy · 26/08/2024 10:02

Does anyone really believe that screw caps on the bottle are the answer to fixing the issues with the environment? It’s not even the tip of the tip of the iceberg but it’s another thing that makes life harder for those with disabilities without having any real impact on anything.

I’m not implying that anybody is stupid. You complained that you aren’t able to hold the lid back. You shouldn’t be having to do this, the lid fixes back, and I was pointing this out. You can obviously get to the point where you can’t hold the lid back, or you wouldn’t know that you can’t hold it back.

You clearly are. Read my previous post. People are trying to help you and you are being rude in return.

No I didn’t, I pointed out that they’re not accessible to people with arthrogrypsos. You then ignored essentially everything I wrote and decided you knew better than anyone else.

If you had used your reading comprehension skills you would be aware that someone with arthrogryposis wouldn’t be able to open the bottle, because aids do not work on the new lid types.

You’re being really rude, I’ve tried to help and you’ve tried to throw insults veiled as concern. I’m out. Very unpleasant for you to try and use a ‘learning difficulty’ as an insult.

I haven’t used it as an insult, its very common for people with a learning difficulty to find reading comprehension a challenge, have you not heard of dyslexia? The fact you ignored what I wrote, and at times invented things suggested you were likely having difficultly correctly processing what had been written, rather than choosing to purposely ignore what I wrote, ignore my replies and invent random things.

Bullshit. You know what you were doing.

Yet you seemingly didn’t know what you were doing when you repeatedly ignored what you believed to be a disabled person wrote, while suggesting both you and others would know better than the person experiencing the problem.

3 posts in and already we have a snide and patronising response! 🙄

SOME people are quite capable of making sure the lids go in the recycle bin as well as the bottles!

And don't they realise that people will not just snap them off anyway?!

I do!!! And SHOCKER I manage to put the lid in the recycling bin - along with the bottle.

.

Edited

If everyone put the tops in a recycling bin then these tops wouldn’t exist….but people don’t put them in bins, they end up in oceans & on beaches.
But aren't you great recycling yours!
I didn’t vote for the shit that’s brexit but I have to put up with it.

AgileGreenSeal · 26/08/2024 10:20

I hate them.
My elderly mother (87) finds them incredibly difficult to manage as she has arthritis in her hands.
It’s sheer nonsense.

Jaxhog · 26/08/2024 10:22

After one bottle didn't close properly and leaked all over the fridge, I now cut them off. But then I've never lost a top.

Not true apparently, even if they go in the recycling bin they fall through the sorting machine (🤷🏻‍♀️) and end up in general waste. Hence need to be attached to something bigger (the bottle).
