Family holiday drama

familydrama1 · 21/08/2024 21:36

So we are due to go on holiday next year with family. We invited my parents, they booked their own room - they then invited my nephew (who is 17). My brother didn't pay for my nephew or even offer to pay for their place.

I found out I was pregnant recently and can't book the baby's space until they are born. Also there will be no spaces as, the baby is due 4 months before the holiday. Anyone we trust with our child will be on that holiday. We need to take my nephew off the booking and change it to the baby when they are born.

AIBU to take my nephew off the booking (I have spoken to my parents about this and they understand) but I know my brother won't be happy and it will cause drama. Or should just not go and lose thousands 😣

Need an outside perspective pleaseeee

You're literally making no sense.

A baby doesn't take up a space on a holiday. It goes in your room. Same if you have to fly to the destination. It sits on your lap. You just have to pay an admin fee to add the baby.

LibertyPrime · 21/08/2024 21:49

@familydrama1 where is the baby once its born ?

dafa · 21/08/2024 21:50

so are you sharing one cabin? Or is the cruise sold out? It’s confusing how you’ve worded it, sorry. I cruise often and can’t imagine 5 people in a room so don’t see how your nephew staying with your parents affects your cabin?

like I said, before you kick the nephew off call the cruise line and see if there is even any room for a baby. They only allow a certain number due to lifeboats, health & safety etc. so you may have to cancel or move holiday when you can all go.

FawnFrenchieMum · 21/08/2024 21:50

Usually under 2s are not counted in the room capacity so wouldn’t be an issue to add them.

Also most cruise lines don’t take babies under 6 or 12 months depending on the length of the sailing / amount of sea days.

Im assuming it was an offer like 3/4 person sails for free hence adding him in the first place. I think you are being very unfair dropping him now whether he paid or not.

Madamecholetsbonnet · 21/08/2024 21:50

Your mother invited your teenage nephew on a cruise you are taking with your in laws?

And you cannot take a six month old baby now because?

6pence · 21/08/2024 21:50

Who is supposed to be paying for the nephew if his dad isn’t? Were you asked if he could come or did your mum just invite him?
And more importantly whose room is he in?

familydrama1 · 21/08/2024 21:52

No one asked if he could come, and my parents paid for him. My daughter is in the room with my parents too and we paid for her. They are all sharing a room together

Even if you are allowed to take your wee baby a cruise with a 4 month old doesn't sound fun at all.
Surely you would be better to cancel.

LoudSnoringDog · 21/08/2024 21:52

Can you be more specific otherwise I'm out.

Hayley1256 · 21/08/2024 21:52

Adding the baby on should he fine as long they are the min age. The baby will sleep in your room amd won't require a seat at dining tables etc. You need to ring the cruise company and confirm you will have a baby by the time the cruise happens. Your nephew shouldn't be affected at all

but where would the baby be ?

Sunshineclouds11 · 21/08/2024 21:53

Have you rang the cruise company?

Madamecholetsbonnet · 21/08/2024 21:53

How old is your DD? This is getting weirder and weirder.

I still don’t understand what your DN being in a room with your parents has to do with your baby being in your room.

6pence · 21/08/2024 21:53

So if you took him off, officially the baby would be in with your parents too?

Why can’t the baby be added to your room?

DrFosterWentToGloucester23 · 21/08/2024 21:54

Room 1: DM, DF, DD and DN
Room 2: You, DH (and baby)
Room 3: MIL and FIL

Yes?

Nazzywish · 21/08/2024 21:54

Your making no sense. Your parent,dd and dn will be in one room as booked.

You and dh will be in yours and add a baby cot to your room. Job done. Speak to the cruise provider to ask for a cot.stop being so dramatic re nephew.

Happygogoat · 21/08/2024 21:54

you quite clearly just don’t want him to come, which is fine but it seems the baby is the red herring. Don’t see what configuration of rooms and space is affected by a baby - they go in a travel cot?

familydrama1 · 21/08/2024 21:54

Our room is at full capacity, this is the only way we can add the baby trust me it's the last resort

I haven't had any wine and im so fucking confused. It's a baby - it surely doesn't count?! Unless you just dont want nephew to come?

Madamecholetsbonnet · 21/08/2024 21:55

familydrama1 · 21/08/2024 21:54

Who else is in your room then?

OP, a 6 month baby does not take up a place on a plane, in a hotel, on a cruise. They will add a cot to your room.

Gazelda · 21/08/2024 21:56

So are you wanting baby to go in with your parents, instead of nephew?

Why can't baby share with you?

Have you spoken with the cruise operator?

Why mention that your DB hadn't paid, which gives the impression that you have covered the cost. When in fact your parents have paid? Surely it's irrelevant who paid. And you can't kick someone off who's booked and paid for.

I'm not following your thought process at all.

LoudSnoringDog · 21/08/2024 21:56

Can you break down specifically who is going into which room
