To be so fucking angry. How many more women and children must die?

I'd almost become numb to it, with all the news so far this year.

Murder after murder of women and their children. Noone ever seeming to link the common denominator. NAMALT.

This latest one today, I feel like something is beginning to snap inside me. Three babies and a young woman dead, because of a fucking man. Again. And again.

It's so shocking and so sad all these cases, There is a register you have the right to look at before living with someone if you have children to make sure the man has not had previous convictions of a violent or sexusl nature ( think it's Sarah's law) The worst cases are these poor young girls being grabbed, held and stabbed in the street.
Re the Stabbing in Stockport, all protests were then against the wrong people immigrants not men or knife crime, The women who were locked up were aiming their anger at the wrong people immigrants and the poor police.
Knife crime is getting worse than America with guns, because knives are so easily accessible because they are an essential kitchen tool.there has to be a law, anyone found with a knife on the street should be automatically locked up,as no one needs to be carrying a knife, unfortunately the people getting stabbed in their homes or killed by fire is something less easy to control. Can't check up on everyone like the ex boyfriend of the News Reporters Daughter and you never know when a man is going to turn could appear to be the most rational normal person, then the couple split up,

Is there any law in Ireland that allows women to look up predators in their area like Sarah's law in UK?

parkrun500club · 23/08/2024 10:53

I’m still really pissed off with the way the Met handled the Sarah Everard vigil. So ill judged and insensitive. Yet days later, when Leicester Square was awash with male football fans trashing the place and littering, the Met stood by and did nothing because they didn’t want their officers to get hurt. Easier to pick on the soft target the women presented

Me too and yet people (women) were posting on Facebook hand-wringing about the covid rules being broken. AAAAGGGGHHHH.

i thought you were talking about Palestine for a moment and I was going to wholeheartedly agree.
I agree with you too on this topic, however I’m a bit consumed by the footage of thousands of slain Palestinian children.

And the Ukrainian kids as well, I assume. And those in Yemen and Sudan and anywhere else there are conflicts in the world (caused by inadequate men).

What measures would work to protect women and children?
make it a terrorist offence.
when the dreadful stabbings and murders took place at the Taylor Swift dance class recently which sparked off horror and riots it was reported that it was children not girls who were the victims when we knew it was girls. Society must own up and see the sexism let alone the misogyny that has infected the young largely through internet porn: Where sex is equated with cruelty and sadism. These acts anlways existed for a few perverts now it’s mainstream. No wonder young girls want to remove their breasts and become desexualised. It’s not cool, it’s cruel neglect by society turning a blind eye to protect them.

On a similar note, the Andrew Tate news has been reported as him raping an underage "child".

We all know it's a girl, he's Andrew Tate ffs.

CRISPRSuperHuman · 23/08/2024 11:37

This is a global issue for all women.
I'd love to see change in my lifetime but I know I won't.
Are these peaceful regional protests to highlight male behaviour and femicide only being held in the UK?
They should be global.

I'm fed up with woman being told how to stay safe and then the blame placed on them if anything were to happen.
Men are the problem.People will say not all men are like that and that’s true, but what are these good men doing about this? We could argue it’s not up to them to sort this out but why should woman have to constantly be the ones to fight and die over men issues ,while all these good men do nothing.

That was always the case at school and it still is at college. "You've only yourself to blame" was the favourite phrase of a FEMALE teacher when she heard that a MAN had "caused problems" for a woman.
"But HE assaulted/attacked/raped/hit/ whatever HER", we'd say.
"But she should KNOW that men are like that and be careful".
!!!!!

I've just finished reading Philippa Gregory's Normal Women. A radical retelling of our nation's story of social and cultural change, powered by the determination, persistence and effectiveness of women - from 1066 to modern times.

She says that most murdered women are killed by their husbands or partners. 58% in 1967-74, usually in their own homes. She goes on to list the dead women for the year 2019. It read like a list of war dead, covering almost 9 pages. Many of the convicted men were found guilty of manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.

What happened to that mum and her children is heartbreaking, but unfortunately it will happen again. Its just so sad.

What I'm pointing out is that there have been threads on here for years saying the same stuff:

Men are abusers. Men are the majority of killers.

But no one ever does anything to try to bring change.

Ie women could start organising groups to get together to campaign for change

Edited

Off you pop and start one then.

Off you pop and start one then.

The thing is there is not much point in campaigning against male violence without clear campaign objectives as to what you think can be done about it. Even many abusive men are probably against violence by other men. So everyone will sympathise with the campaign but it won't achieve anything without clear demands.

Singleaftermarriage · 21/08/2024 16:06

I was speaking to my friends about this and saying how the "protests" (riots) should have been every woman and girl in this country demanding that they can be safe from male violence. It should have been women on the streets forcing people to listen. As a newly ish single woman with 3 daughters I worry that all it takes is a break up for your life to be in danger. It makes me so angry

Exactly this! My marriage broke up 2 years ago and we have remained very amicable and there is no nastiness nor has there ever been (just fell out of love).. BUT because I’ve been in an abusive relationship prior to my 18 year marriage, and because I have a 13 year old daughter to think about, I have remained very much single and have no intention to so much as chat to another man on line, let alone date again….. no interest at all…. My priority is keeping my DD safe and if that means staying single until she leaves home then so be it!

Sadcat22 · 24/08/2024 02:21

This won’t be popular but
How many parents worry about this happening to their daughters? But not so much about their sons?
Men/boys are getting killed/raped too majority by other men.
prisons are full to the brim (mostly men)
Knife crime ,violence, rape, pedophilia murder etc is usually carried out by men

Why aren’t more parents worried that their sons could turn into these monsters??? I know the thought of our sons doing this is unthinkable and this shit only happens to other families.
The sad reality is that a lot of parents are in this situation and it’s only climbing. We can never be sure what might happen and I can imagine most parents were in shock when they found out their child could do such evil .
We need to stop this attitude of boys will be boys we aren’t helping them or society by doing this.
Its sad that a lot of boys/men only emotion they feel they can have is anger. Let’s worry more about our boys you never know it might help.

Sadcat22 · 24/08/2024 09:14

ElatedShark · 24/08/2024 09:19

Bet there will be no "protesting" over this horrific murder of a young woman and 3 babies considering the demographics of the accused killer.

The guy responsible will have the usual mental health issues that lead to this and that will be it for this sad story.

Prayers to any family and friends of the victims that this doesn't drag out and they can mourn in peace.

beguilingeyes · 24/08/2024 13:23

A couple more arrests have been made in this case (Bradford).

drmelons · 24/08/2024 13:34

Does anyone know of any reclaim the streets type/ women’s groups around Bristol? I’m getting tired of being angry about this and want to do something positive.

I've spent a lot of time thinking about this and have thought the clear objectives could be:-

Three independent complaints of assault against an individual and the case is automatically transferred for trial. Rather than these details not being disclosed to court (as is the current case), it is used as the primary grounds for evidence. In these cases all the CPS would need to do is log it into the Court System.

In cases where it's one-on-one both the defendant and victim undergo a psychiatric evaluation (unless there is clear medical evidence). If the victim demonstrates symptoms of psychological injury in the form of PTS(D) and/or physical injuries and it can be shown that this injury was caused by the direct actions of the defendant then it can be referred to CPS.

The police should have more authority to make charging decisions in cases that are straight forward, in order to free up the CPS to deal with more complex cases.

Would any evidence be needed before trial or just 3 complaints?

The evidence would be the Independent complaints of sexual assault.

Citrusandginger · 24/08/2024 14:56

Perhaps I don’t come from a family with that kind of background, perhaps I pick my friends well, perhaps it’s that my workplace is the kind that attracts a certain kind of man.

Have you never had a friend or work colleague who appeared worried by a request to change shift? to work late? Stressed because their train is late? Or because Tesco didn't have Bob's special sausages? Have you ever known anyone with an extremely solicitous partner who will pick her up anywhere, anytime just so that he doesn't have to risk her getting in a vehicle with another male?

I'm afraid if you think you don't know anyone in a coercive relationship, you are not reading the signs.

Hateam · 24/08/2024 15:11

CharlieDickens · 24/08/2024 14:54

Surely if 1 allegation is made, that should be investigated and if there is evidence of a crime there should be a prosecution? That's the current the system but it is letting women down. I feel the current system should be made to work not changed.

I have no idea how to make it work.

I do not believe that an accusation should be viewed as evidence though.

So many of these men are known to police, have multiple cases against them dropped because of not enough evidence. Or they go to court and they're let off by a naive jury. I know of someone who had been arrested multiple times and had been found not guilty by a very naive jury. Eventually he was convicted and found guilty. When the police reopened the other cases it totalled 8 women. He was on the verge of opening a business as well which would have put more people at risk. The system doesn't care about women at all.

It's not just that the system doesn't care about women, the system is mysoginist. Jurors, whether male or female, simply find excuses for male aggression against women. Many judges are ancient men with very conservative and dubious attitudes.

I remember court cases for stranger rape, where they'd show the woman's clothes to the jury to show she wasn't asking for it and God forbid if you weren't a virgin. Now it's about how drunk you are. Many people don't understand consent and there's an entrenched attitude of male entitlement.

Hateam · 24/08/2024 15:42

I agree with much of that.

Surely evidence has to be the key yo securing a conviction in any crime though.

Better training for juries could be way to go. I did jury service 30 years ago. The cases were not related to violence against women. It all seemed a bit hap hazard.
