A warning to the curious

If you are in the fortunate position of being able in terms of material things - ie, a comfortable home, laundry done from home, nice holidays abroad - if your child has already experienced those things, be VERY careful. Otherwise, they can, and will, make your life hell. PUT BOUNDARIES DOWN - deal with tantrums and rudeness, shoot those down, take no prisoners. You should have been doing this from the start, tbh.

WTF doing laundry from home is an luxury?? Where exactly would you like me to do my laundry?

Is "A warning to the curious" an oblique literary allusion to a very scary M.R. James ghost story? The terrible price you pay for removing a precious object from (I think) a Saxon grave?
Mind you, there are no small children in that story.

MounjaroUser · 21/08/2024 18:35

Yes, I can't imagine M.R. James giving laundry a second thought!

Georgyporky · 21/08/2024 18:41

I put down boundaries from the start.
Locked my bedroom door to prevent unauthorised access the moment the little sod could walk.
Painted the cot & stairgates with anti-climb paint.

But he still doesn't like me.

@AmiablePedant Suspect it was a means by which the OP could assert her cultural superiority over us when none of us were able to understand what the Hell she was talking about.

I'm just disappointed this thread isn't about the ghost stories of M. R. James. 😔

I am too. Although ungrateful children are better than vengeful ghosts who will lead you to a grisly death even if you do put it back!

GettingStuffed · 21/08/2024 18:54

I'm wondering if the laundry thing is that someone comes and takes your laundry and brings it back when it is washed and ironed.

MageraofCthulik · 21/08/2024 19:09

Listen very carefully, the squirrels fly at midnight.

MrsLighthouse · 21/08/2024 19:10

Isn’t there enough real things to fear ? This smacks of a Daily Mail headline 🤣 Rogue kids and it’s your fault !!!! beware …

MounjaroUser · 20/08/2024 21:50

Oh no, I washed my children's clothes and took them on holiday! Am I doomed?

Definitely

If they fancy a change of scene aka holiday that much give them their dirty clothes and a couple of scrubbing brushes and send them down to the river with instructions not to return until their clothes are pristine..

Honestly the obscene luxuries you pile upon your children.. awful parenting

Are you ok hun...? 😂😂

Sharper than a serpent's tooth innit.

I agree op. DIVIDE AND CONQUER.

Mellowbear · 21/08/2024 21:21

Have a lie down in a dark room

Gettygrip · 21/08/2024 23:18

Brains obviously had a shit couple of days and needs a hand hold, lets be more understanding without the sarcastic clever comments please !!!

HearTheMessenger · 21/08/2024 23:24

I've no idea what's going on with Bri because everything he's said has been deleted, apart from the first post.

I dunno about that; in "Oh whistle and I'll come to you my lad" an evil spirit forms a face out of crumpled bed linens! (er, spoiler)

Question Mark What GIF by MOODMAN

Ok?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 22/08/2024 00:23

I'm fecking doomed because my adult DS sent me an article that stated men’s brains. ( that’s Brain not Brian) don’t fully form until they’re 30.

So ( thanks Men’s Health) I’m stuck with the little toad for another five years .

I did tell him then I’d be Officially Ancient and he can look after me.
And do my laundry

Actually he’s a lovely fella , but untidy but otherwise ok

Facing40andfrazzled · 22/08/2024 17:07

If I don’t iron washed clothes, do washing in the river using rocks to pound stains and only have crappy holidays will I be ok

Serencwtch · 22/08/2024 17:58

You don't explain what your kids have done but the summer holidays get to us all about now!

Take a deep breath, have a glass of wine & chilli. They'll be back at school in a couple of weeks.

Is one of your DC kicking off?
