To suggest a male curfew one night a week

when women can walk free in the streets without fear?

Yes, violence still happens in homes and behind closed doors but what a powerful message it would send.

I'd say every night but let's start with one.

@FiddlyDiddlyDee I’ve reported your post as it’s racist

Made me laugh. You've really gone down the rabbit hole of hatred haven't you.

Prejudice - assuming all men are rapists

@CoralReader who on earth on this thread has said they assume all men are rapists?! This is about women feeling safe from the minority of men that commit 97% of the crime against them.

You keep saying 97% where are you getting this number

LlynTegid · 19/08/2024 20:45

Now who was it who paid no attention to Covid restrictions and organised parties- men.

Do you really think given the exceptionalist attitudes of many men (and women) to any set of rules, a curfew would actually be followed? Never mind the impact as has been noted of angry men at home.

It was women too. The lockdown parties in government buildings all included women. The press secretary at the time was a woman as I recall, and she had to resign because she was filmed during those parties making derogatory comments about the general public.

Sunnybow94 · 19/08/2024 20:58

Extremely sexist. I can’t believe this hasn’t been pulled already. What about the male police officers working that night, the doctors and nurses. If this was a post banning any other demographic from the streets this thread would have been pulled already.

Maybe you could fit men with collars with a bell on so they can't sneak up on anyone.

Surely you mean the 15% of men who commit violence against women. There’s nothing to support men committing 97% of crimes against women.

Not to mention the endless threads on here Started by posters saying they were refusing to follow the " rules" most of whom were women.

Can you show me proof that it's 97% because when you Google it the results are very different

ONS - Office for National Statistics

CSEW - Crime Survey for England and Wales

Backtothedungeon · 19/08/2024 21:02

So one night a week, you want to make women do all the work? Make all female police officers, fire fighters, paramedics, doctors, etc work an extra shift, while all the men sit at home relaxing. I don't think that will help anyone really will it?

just be careful not to back that up with valid statistics or someone will make a total joke out of racism once you blow a hole in their argument.

7wwkw · 19/08/2024 21:03

Just so impractical.

The tube wouldn’t run without men, for example. Plenty of petrol stations would need to shut. All sorts of stuff. Airports, planes etc. A&E.

My dh often has to visit places hours away for work. So he’d not be able to come home if you banned men from the streets for an evening.

I don’t know what the answer is. But I do appreciate that women and girls aren’t safe on the streets. I am a woman and have a dd.

FrippEnos · 19/08/2024 21:03

Againname

Poorly funded, ineffective, and insufficient public services cause and increase the the breakdown in society and community safety and cohesion, and crime goes up. Affecting both women and men.

Tackling this (by doing the things I listed in my previous post) would reduce VAWG both from strangers and in the home, but also male violence against men.

And yet the person that I was responding was quite happy for brothers, husbands and fathers to go and sort these violent men out.
Violence begets violence.

5128gap · 19/08/2024 19:27

Its a no from me, certainly. My priorities are the safety and wellbeing of girls. Not merely because i am a woman, but also as a matter of priority. Male violence has been declared a national emergency by the police and efforts need to be targeted in that direction.
I'd be happy to contribute to the education of boys to prevent them growing up to harm women, but I don't agree that boys are facing a significant threat from girls, or men from women that requires women to divert their resources away from women towards the protection of boys.
If men disagree, there is nothing preventing them addressing the issue, and the content would be up to them.
I'm concerned that you seem to be suggesting that content would be questionable though, if created by men. I'd have liked to think there were enough decent men out there to come up with something appropriate, and compelling enough to counteract Tate. Do you really think there aren't?

So you are quite happy to to leave it to men but unhappy with the men that will end up doing the training.
You either have both sexes help in teaching both sexes or you will end up with the Andrew Tate types getting in.

What percentage of sexual violent crimes are committed by men?

Differentstarts · 19/08/2024 21:07

Alucard55 · 19/08/2024 21:05

What numbers are you getting?

More men are victims of violent crime in England and Wales but actually commiting violent crimes is about 80% men 20% women it obviously differs year to year slightly

FrippEnos · 19/08/2024 21:07

Swisscave · 19/08/2024 19:23

Males (sex at birth) aged 16 to 25, a curfew between 8pm-5am. Exceptions for those that work during these times, which a licence could be given. Exceptions also include medical emergencies.

Those over 25-55 must gain a licence to be able to go out at night. A test to be passed to gain the licence. You must carry your licence in public if you are out. Points taken off for bad behaviour in public. Eg, drunk and disorderly. 12 points and you have your licence revoked.

No licence needed for those 55+

Sounds horrific but you can bet your bottom dollar that crime would fall, the streets and roads would be safer and women could venture out more at night.

Nope, you either get the whole curfew or nothing.
You don't get to choose.

Sunnybow94 · 19/08/2024 21:07

FiddlyDiddlyDee · 19/08/2024 21:03

Honestly I was thinking of banning all 18-25 year olds from going out Saturday night because they’re more likely to clog up a&e. You could go on and on with different statistics for different demographics but fortunately, in this society, we don’t punish a whole group of people because of the actions of a few.

HelloMiss · 19/08/2024 21:08

So, whilst all the men have to be inside at night, who will be patrolling the streets checking they aren’t out?

Men with a special government issued lanyard, and a high viz jacket with 'keyworker' on the back?

How would the recruitment of these men work? How would they be vetted ? Same way as police officers are?

We kept curfew for Covid. Cant we do it for women?

What do you suggest to tackle ongoing male violence?

Do you not remember all the people taking the piss with covid lockdowns!?

a rapist is not going to think “oh, it’s Tuesday, can’t go out on the prowl tonight!”

WolabiMe · 19/08/2024 21:11

why is everyone seeing this as a punishment for men rather than something that is enabling women to be safer? It’s weird. No-one has suggested it’s a punishment
