To suggest a male curfew one night a week

when women can walk free in the streets without fear?

Yes, violence still happens in homes and behind closed doors but what a powerful message it would send.

I'd say every night but let's start with one.

Now who was it who paid no attention to Covid restrictions and organised parties- men.

Do you really think given the exceptionalist attitudes of many men (and women) to any set of rules, a curfew would actually be followed? Never mind the impact as has been noted of angry men at home.

Omlettes · 19/08/2024 20:45

OoodlesofNoodles · 19/08/2024 17:42

And punish the majority for the actions of the minority?

No,rather to crystalise in their minds how dangerous their sex has become for the other half of the population.
And more importantly give women a desperately needed break, just for once after 1000s of years.

"Millions of men in England and Wales pose a danger to women and children, the commissioner of the Metropolitan police has said.
Sir Mark Rowley said the figures were “eye-watering” and an “inconvenient truth” as he called for a much bigger effort, a national strategy and more money to tackle the problem.

I'm a bloke, I've a wife, 2 sons and a teenage daughter. This is the best suggestion ever, you can have the shopping centres to yourself, can go out partying till late, have a couple too many drinks and I'd be restful and relaxed my girls would get home safely. I'll be happy at home to know the females out there can enjoy themselves once a week without fear of spiked drinks and dodgy blokes. My vote is yanbu all day long.

So it's ok to be sexist but not racist. Saying all males should have a curfew is sexist and I can't believe mumsnet is allowing this thread

@Differentstarts eh? How is discussing ways of tackling VAWG sexist?

After Sarah Everard went missing the advice was for women to ‘stay at home.’ And no-one was up in arms about it. At the time a politician suggested maybe men did so…

www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2021/mar/13/men-curfew-sarah-everard-women-adapt-violence

Because it's not discussing it. People are saying all males should have a curfew that's sexist. You can't group people together like that

Sallyh87 · 19/08/2024 20:47

Not that I frequently go out anymore, when I was young and did, it was generally in a group of boys and girls. If I go out late now it would be the same.

Cant see how this would help us live as a cohesive society. By all means call out the men who are committing violence but that’s the minority not the majority.

WolabiMe · 19/08/2024 20:47

And what is the percentage of women who are committing violent crimes

@Differentstarts well if 97% is committed by men then you minus that from 100% and get 3% 🤫

Findwen · 19/08/2024 20:48

Banning all alcohol 7 days a week and enforcing all drug laws would be far more effective imho.

What the fuck are you on about? Review my parenting? I haven’t mentioned any of my children. The usual misogynist shit, I see.

You implied that my child felt she couldn't disagree with me. I said that she is quite capable of it and suggested that if you felt your children were incapable of such confidence you should review your parenting.

I am not quite sure why you think its "misogynist shit"

Mumsnet seems to have lost it tonight. I'm checking out to spend the evening with my NON VIOLENT dp.. and guess what we're going out...bet that pisses the OP off

Newbutoldfather · 19/08/2024 20:48

Animal Farm is always worth rereading, judging by this and similar threads.

My vote is that men who refer to women as "females" sound like Ferengi and we don't really need for them to rock up and tell us what we should want and what is good for us.

So what happens when your daughter gets hurt and hospitals are closed because their isn't enough staff because the men are at home what happens if a woman attacks her but their isn't enough police officers because the men are at home.

how? Sexism is prejudice or discrimination towards somebody based on their sex. Nobody is doing either of those things.

What about if your daughters needed urgent medical attention ,but couldn't get it as there were only female staff on duty so not enough staff , or your house caught fire and there were not enough female fire officers to put it out
Or if your daughters couldn't get a taxi or bus home because most drivers are male and at home?

There's a post that blames all men. According to that poster all men are part of the problem.

Of course men should challenge male problematic behaviour. If they don’t, what is the message that is being sent? How is that at all controversial?

Rosscameasdoody · 19/08/2024 20:50

WolabiMe · 19/08/2024 20:36

The op and anyone who agrees with her. How would people react if someone put the same post up about race instead of sex. Would that be acceptable

but we’re not talking about race. We’re talking about VAWG and tactics to help reduce it. I still would like to see just one quote that suggests anyone on this thread ‘hates all men’ or even ‘blames all men.’

I’d say that prize would go to the poster who advocated for locking men up until the age of 25 when they had earned a ‘licence’ which would be subject to penalty points and revocation for bad behaviour. The whole thread reeks of blaming all men.

Or when your daughter loses her bus pass and calls you for a lift and you're not legally allowed to go and help her?

Prejudice - assuming all men are rapists
discrimination - not letting men leave the house, but letting women

JuicyBlueberry · 19/08/2024 20:51

It's not feasible and unjust to all the decent men out there.

How would you police it anyway, seeing as the majority of police officers are still male. Wouldn't some just put on women's clothing and/or identify as a woman. After all, it would be classed as bigotry, possibly a hate crime, to deny their gender identity. How would it work. Would you have roaming female police going around using stop and search to obtain cheek swabs for chromosome testing, patting down people for the presence of dick and balls. What about DSD individuals.

On a side note, you can say what you want about Mumsnet but at least you can use the word rape/rapist/etc. when actually talking about it seriously, without getting banned or having your post removed. So much of the internet you have to say R worded and even that's often not tolerated. It's fucking ridiculous for so many reasons. Rape doesn't cease to be a problem if you censor the word.

60 year old with severe arthritis calling out roided 20 something bodybuilder kind of thing?

Thats good to hear, and a good topic to bring up with your mates,
because we have to start thinking outside the box, the situation is obscene.

I want to walk free at night. Ive been held at knife point and twice avoided gang rape by the skin of my teeth.
Im in the last half of my life, I want some fucking freedom of movement ffs!
Im not lashing out at you, but you can havehave no idea the constant impact of fear and constraint on every aspect of life, every single one.
