To suggest a male curfew one night a week

when women can walk free in the streets without fear?

Yes, violence still happens in homes and behind closed doors but what a powerful message it would send.

I'd say every night but let's start with one.

None of your points support it being unworkable. Undesirable, but not unworkable. It's being discussed because someone started a thread about it? Don't worry I don't think its because there's been a leaked memo it's on the cards or anything.

😁

Clearly it's never going to be a thing but it's worth thinking about.

Why would there be not enough demand for pubs, clubs, restaurant's and cinemas? Do you hever go out without a man!

It's interesting to imagine how easy, going out becomes when you take out male gaze and violence. If this once a week was the norm, how long before women realised it shouldn't matter how hot/young they are but rather how they project themselves.
How long before "hard" women are a thing and what happens to those women when men are back in charge.

They are why it's unworkable

Not enough staff, not enough viability for venues to open or operate when they lose potentially half or more of their clientelle, managing just WHY a male is out and about...

If they're still allowed out to work then they'll still be there as a threat (and we know Police Officers and Taxi Drivers for example aren't "safe") which would defeat the point. And would just create resentment and anger in the men who don't work in industries which allow them out and about. They wouldn't settle down the way you seem to think.

I'd have probably said the same before 2020, but its been proven how much freedom people will sacrifice to benefit others. Although perhaps when the others are women and the ones being asked to sacrifice are men, it would be different. However we'll never know.
The majority of the people it's designed to benefit are very unlikely to be supportive of it and that's the strongest disincentive. We can't start imposing things most women don't want against their wishes because a few think it would be for their good. Otherwise we are swapping one form of subjugation for another.

@Boomer55 "Most men aren’t a threat to women."

I agree. Most people aren't burglars either. Or shoplifters, or drunk drivers or child abusers. That doesn't mean we shouldn't protect ourselves from the people that are.

And as I keep saying, the men who aren't a threat HAVE to take some responsibility for dealing with the men that are.

And so do mothers raising sons. That’s where it starts. It’ll take a while to feed in, but the message should be women are not playthings, punchbags, or there for the convenience or comfort of men. Women are equal in every way and no means no every single time.

No men allowed at all would potentially be HALF their clientele for a certain day every week

If women are having to pick up male shifts as well then the client base is even more limited

But equally they could adjust for half numbers as much as "twice as busy" like bank holidays or roasts on Sundays. Unless you live in a urban metropolis most places close a day or two a week as it is. If cufew night was one of those it would make sod all difference.

Those are reasons why its unethical not unworkable.

It's totally unworkable because men will just say no.

WotsYourExcuse · 01/09/2024 19:30

After taking decades upon decades to even be allowed to vote and get equal pay you think they'll let us curfew them. Not a chance. 😂

It would be interesting to see who some of the young "ladies" would cadge drinks off, and whether they would spend their own money.

5128gap · 02/09/2024 08:54

You don't need a curfew for that @@FrippEnos All you need to do is stop trying to buy young women's company, and get over the idea that the way to get sex is to buy them drinks. Problem (if it even is one) solved.

Or for young women to stop selling their company.

Depending on the day, in our local pub it would be a 95% reduction of the clientele for a certain day every week.
