To suggest a male curfew one night a week

when women can walk free in the streets without fear?

Yes, violence still happens in homes and behind closed doors but what a powerful message it would send.

I'd say every night but let's start with one.

Sounds horrific but you can bet your bottom dollar that crime would fall, the streets and roads would be safer and women could venture out more at night.

Crime would fall? Violence in the home against women and children (and adult male relatives) would increase. A large proportion of VAWG happens in the home and behind closed doors, and what do you think the consequences will be of locking violent men in with their victims?

Also, why should innocent non violent young men be on a curfew? Why not, instead, take sensible action to tackle VAWG (and violent crime in general) by doing what I suggested in my first post on this thread - better funded and effective public services?

What would there be to venture out for? With half the population forced to stay in their homes, places like pubs, cafes, restaurants, cinemas, theatres, etc wouldn't be viable nor would evening/late night shopping.

You've really not thought it through!

It's a bit like Covid lockdowns, sounded good in theory, but the damage was immense in other ways, i.e. economically, mental health, business closures, redundancies, etc.

Not half the population.

Only this 16-25. The rest would have a licence.

Males (sex at birth) aged 16 to 25, a curfew between 8pm-5am. Exceptions for those that work during these times, which a licence could be given. Exceptions also include medical emergencies.

Those over 25-55 must gain a licence to be able to go out at night. A test to be passed to gain the licence. You must carry your licence in public if you are out. Points taken off for bad behaviour in public. Eg, drunk and disorderly. 12 points and you have your licence revoked.

No licence needed for those 55+

Alternatively we could spend the time, money and resources it would take to implement all that on actually increasing rape convinctions, rather than providing rapists with one night a week when the streets will be quiet and underpoliced.

I’d love it, I know DH would support it too, many men recognise the threat men pose to women, it doesn’t get their backs up because they know it’s true.

Do you have any stats to prove this age group is most likely to be a danger to women or did you pull it out of your bum?

HollyKnight · 19/08/2024 19:31

Are you the poster who suggested that male fetuses should be aborted?

Yes, but DV in the home has very specific dynamics and the age group most likely to commit these crimes is not the younger cohort.

I'm not sure what the difference is between this and any other form of hate speech is and I hope the people on here who are obviously radicalised are only representative of people hiding behind a screen and not the wider public.

Quite

If Andrew Tate is speaking hate speech in his vile comments on women...

So too is OP inciting hatred with her suggestion

(And if this thread gets into MRA hands then it'll be great for them. "Look fellas, women wants us locked up for just being men. See the problem?")

Tbh I'm always the most suspicious of men who tell me how untrustworthy and threatening all men are as I suspect they're telling on themselves

Which impacts all those disabled people who need to use their cars for work, leisure etc, and have no alternative. Nothing is without consequence.

Yes I know, I was making a ridiculous suggestion to highlight how ridiculous the OP’s suggestion is

I don’t think that the ‘undesirable shifts’ are mainly filled by those aged 16-25. I think most would be older. In which case they would have a licence.

But any shortfall would need to be filled by women yes.

My dh already works late shifts which he hates he's working until 11 pm tonight ,so he would just say bollocks to the licence ill stay home I bet loads of men would

Almost every dictatorship has begun with imposing a curfew on one section of society or other. Hitler did it to the Jews and look how that went. You are talking about curtailing the freedom of an entire cohort based on nothing more than ‘men are bad’. Not only that you’re advocating a points system to further curtail for bad behaviour - do you really think only men are drunk and disorderly, or otherwise badly behaved ? What’s the equivalent punishment for women behaving the same way ? Utterly ridiculous and unashamed misandry.

CurlewKate · 19/08/2024 19:35

This thread is just another example of people refusing to take VAWAG seriously. All the NAMALT/women are just as violent as men/ what about violence against men-don't you care about men/I have sons-they are lovely......and so on and so on. VAWAG is a huge issue. Putting our fingers in our ears and pretending it doesn't happen is must not cutting it.

HollyKnight · 19/08/2024 19:35

@Swisscave Why do over 55s get a free pass in your fantasy? Do you think a bad man stops being a risk when he turns 55?

FlowerWrath · 19/08/2024 19:35

If all women were at home no violence would happen to women in public either

But he isnt 16-25 is he?

So would make not difference to him materially whether he continues to work the job or not

No one here is pretending it doesn't happen, they're just pointing out this idea is a) unworkable and b) would do nothing to actually solve the problem anyway

stayathomer · 19/08/2024 17:45

The only ones who won’t keep the curfew will be the ones to be afraid of

Exactly this.

We have rules against raping but they don't observe those so I doubt a curfew would stop them.

No, but less likely to cause public alarm and road traffic violations.

Indeed Wayne Cozens was 49 ( i think) when convicted not that far-off 55.

whatisgoingonadviceplease · 19/08/2024 19:37

What would single dads do? Just be stuck at home? What if their child needed to see a doctor? 🤔

HelloMiss · 19/08/2024 19:37

Not true

I work in a men's prison with these men.

Swisscave · 19/08/2024 19:35

Why are you so fixated on the 16-25 age group?

Personally I wouldn't much want to encounter a group of 26 year olds who've just aged out of your curfew on the first night out they've ever been allowed to have. Carnage.

whatisgoingonadviceplease · 19/08/2024 19:39

Also my DH is a prison officer in a male prison and most of his colleagues are male. Would the prison just be entirely staffed by females for one night only? Doesn't sound the safest for a men's prison to be dangerously understaffed by only female officers...

Very true. But not 55.
