To suggest a male curfew one night a week

when women can walk free in the streets without fear?

Yes, violence still happens in homes and behind closed doors but what a powerful message it would send.

I'd say every night but let's start with one.

How would my son get to work?

Silly silly op hasn't thought it through

Just keeps coming back with 'anyone else got a better idea'

All those saying it’s unfair to punish all men for the actions of a few… you understand that all women are aleeway effectively under curfew every night, because of the few men?

I haven’t been outside alone at night since I was a teenager (presuming myself invincible)

Happily, I’m not under curfew, nor have I ever been.

I'm not sure what the difference is between this and any other form of hate speech is and I hope the people on here who are obviously radicalised are only representative of people hiding behind a screen and not the wider public.

This.

Againname · 19/08/2024 19:22

you are ok with men being violent against men?

Poorly funded, ineffective, and insufficient public services cause and increase the the breakdown in society and community safety and cohesion, and crime goes up. Affecting both women and men.

Tackling this (by doing the things I listed in my previous post) would reduce VAWG both from strangers and in the home, but also male violence against men.

Swisscave · 19/08/2024 19:23

Males (sex at birth) aged 16 to 25, a curfew between 8pm-5am. Exceptions for those that work during these times, which a licence could be given. Exceptions also include medical emergencies.

Those over 25-55 must gain a licence to be able to go out at night. A test to be passed to gain the licence. You must carry your licence in public if you are out. Points taken off for bad behaviour in public. Eg, drunk and disorderly. 12 points and you have your licence revoked.

No licence needed for those 55+

Sounds horrific but you can bet your bottom dollar that crime would fall, the streets and roads would be safer and women could venture out more at night.

Silly silly OP thinks everyone works 9-5 and only goes out in the evening for leisure, and hasn't thought through how much of society's functioning depends on a workforce doing shiftwork I suspect

Well they aren't. Hyperbole like that does nothing to help decrease VAWG.

Pity it's only a thought experiment, and not realistic. Because it would feel amazing.

No male paramedics out? No male workers anywhere?

What's amazing about it?

InsensibleMe · 19/08/2024 19:24

There are many men that belief some ardent feminists are bat-shit crazy. Hard to believe, isn’t it?

SoupDragon · 19/08/2024 19:24

BargingOnBy · 19/08/2024 18:44

That is how a lot of women have to live at the moment.

Interested in whether you are male or female @StoneHenge85 to post such an offensive thing?

Why is it offensive to suggest the OP stays at home but not offensive to say that all men must stay at home?

HelloMiss · 19/08/2024 19:24

Samcro · 19/08/2024 19:02

Who is going to police this ridiculous idea?
seeing as the police won’t be able to.
what age do you think it should start at?

What will be the punishment for breaking this little curfew?

HighBuddha · 19/08/2024 19:25

Here’s a thought experiment…would you rather send your teenage daughter walking through the city alone at night if that city were:

a) populated only by women
b) populated only by men

🤔

Now obviously OPs suggestion is not workable for a number of reasons, but these posts suggesting women are just as dangerous as men are ludicrous.

A lucky day for rapists over 55.

On what basis in your eyes would the licence be granted? Ie how to do you propose to tell in advance who is most likely to assault a woman?

Realistically nothing

Just castrate them at puberty. Much easier surely?

Jeschara · 19/08/2024 19:26

Goady, stupid and something that will never happen. Also your idea will be met with derision by the male and female population.
You sound a bit idiotic OP.
I go out at night and really dont feel afraid of men.

.

Hello87abc · 19/08/2024 19:26

So basically you are saying that all men are violent?? Which is ridiculous

samanthablues · 19/08/2024 19:26

If you look at the very depressing statistics most murdered women are killed by their partners or ex partners, plenty in their own homes. Stopping men from going out one day a week will only stop a few drunken lads from harassing a couple of girls at a club, but not much else.

5128gap · 19/08/2024 19:27

FrippEnos · 19/08/2024 19:09

So that is a no then?

Of course if its left to the men then you are ok with them sorting out the content?

But then you run the risk of the Andrew Tate types getting in.

Its a no from me, certainly. My priorities are the safety and wellbeing of girls. Not merely because i am a woman, but also as a matter of priority. Male violence has been declared a national emergency by the police and efforts need to be targeted in that direction.
I'd be happy to contribute to the education of boys to prevent them growing up to harm women, but I don't agree that boys are facing a significant threat from girls, or men from women that requires women to divert their resources away from women towards the protection of boys.
If men disagree, there is nothing preventing them addressing the issue, and the content would be up to them.
I'm concerned that you seem to be suggesting that content would be questionable though, if created by men. I'd have liked to think there were enough decent men out there to come up with something appropriate, and compelling enough to counteract Tate. Do you really think there aren't?

TheGreatestAtuin · 19/08/2024 19:27

Ridiculous idea.

I walk on the street without any fear now. Day or night.

No you don't get it both ways if you want men off the street than fine but that means women have to work all the un desirable shifts for this privilege.

taxguru · 19/08/2024 19:29

@Swisscave

What would there be to venture out for? With half the population forced to stay in their homes, places like pubs, cafes, restaurants, cinemas, theatres, etc wouldn't be viable nor would evening/late night shopping.

You've really not thought it through!

It's a bit like Covid lockdowns, sounded good in theory, but the damage was immense in other ways, i.e. economically, mental health, business closures, redundancies, etc.

SummerSplashing · 19/08/2024 19:29

It would be amazing to go out without any fear.

this isn't the solution though & to be honest, I don't think there is one.

HollyKnight · 19/08/2024 19:29

Behave. Punishing innocent men will just turn more of them against women.

Swisscave · 19/08/2024 19:29

x2boys · 19/08/2024 19:28

I don’t think that the ‘undesirable shifts’ are mainly filled by those aged 16-25. I think most would be older. In which case they would have a licence.

But any shortfall would need to be filled by women yes.
