Family wedding next year.. seen this dress online that I love....

Would I be unreasonable to think this is ok for a wedding guest? Or is it too bridesmaidy?

I alsoove you've accused me of making things up then you've literally quoted your own quote that you said you didn't say 😂oopsie!

What are you going on about?

UnnecessaryOwl · 19/08/2024 21:51

KimberleyClark · 19/08/2024 09:46

Way too attention seeking.

Nonsense.

Oh don't start. You know full well. The first thing you said on this post was "in my circle she would be laughed at"

You then denied you said it. You then quoted your own post saying exactly that and backtracked saying you mean everyone in your circle did it but absolutely not you and then insinuated that I was lying, despite you quoting your own post saying your circle laughed at women dressed like after saying you never said that.

Own your behaviour. And more importantly, stop denying you've said something when it's here in black and white.

ChanelBoucle · 19/08/2024 22:05

I’m on the fence on this one. It’s a great colour and looks nice from the front but I dunno… the back is just a bit nineties club wear for a wedding. You’d also need perky boobs, zero back fat and a nice tan to carry it off as well as the model. If you do wear it to a church ceremony you will need a cardi or blazer over the top IMO.

You misunderstood, I explained what I meant, you don't believe me, oh well 🤷

Way too attention seeking.

I agree. Totally unsuitable for a wedding.

Butmaaaaam · 19/08/2024 22:13

MN is bonkers at times. I wouldn’t look twice at someone wearing this dress.

i think it’s pretty enough but certainly not too much or attention seeking.

Chickychoccyegg · 19/08/2024 22:13

ChanelBoucle · 19/08/2024 22:10

That one is lovely.
The first dress is nice too, though the back ruined it I think.
No problem with it being attention seeking , just check it doesn't match with the bridesmaids colours.

Edited

Nope. Your doing it again.

You know full well that by saying your circle would laugh at her, that whether you laugh or not, your just as bad for encouraging that behaviour.

I'm incredibly confused as to why you are so adamant you never said that your circle would laugh at her.

You are part of your circle and just as bad as them regardless of whether you actively laugh, because you allow their behaviour to continue.

HebeMumsnet · 19/08/2024 22:40

Evening, everyone. Just here to appeal for a bit of peace and love. The OP's having her thread derailed, which just doesn't seem fair. Can we draw a line under this disagreement now and get the thread back on track please? Thanks. Flowers

BluebellsareBlue · 19/08/2024 22:44

I agree hebe, but the fact dotto is 1, calling me obtuse in a post and 2 blatantly lying in another has really got mine, and other l posters goat!

Calliopespa · 19/08/2024 22:52

KimberleyClark · 19/08/2024 09:54

It’s the whole back and part of the midriff. Too much for a wedding.

I think it’s the back plus the midriff plus the flowers all over the shoulders.

One of those on its own might be fine.

It reminds me a little of when little girls dress themselves up and have bows on their shoes and frilly socks and frilly hem and sparkle cardigan and hair bows all at once. It all just adds up to a bit much when it’s supposed to be someone else’s day. If you love it op buy it and get your Dp to take you somewhere fancy for your birthday: it’s more that vibe I think .

SaintHonoria · 19/08/2024 23:14

I like it as long as your slim and toned.

I would wear it with a jacket or a wrap during the ceremony.

Calliopespa · 19/08/2024 23:37

ChanelBoucle · 19/08/2024 22:10

I’m afraid I’m not too sure if this one either. Because the midriff gap is only on one side, it looks to me as thought it ripped when the model hoisted it up over her shoulder .

But then I’m a very simple dress kind of person.

KimberleyClark · 19/08/2024 23:51

YellowphantGrey · 19/08/2024 21:00

Some wedding dresses are backless so why are they appropriate in a church but a guests dress isn't?

Most weddings these days are not church weddings. I’m sure most brides getting married in a church would not wear a backless dress. A strapless gown is a lot less revealing than the dress in the OP.

NewName24 · 19/08/2024 23:59

YABU to ask here and not in Style and Beauty.

Glad you agreed many pages ago that it isn't really appropriate. It is, as was said pages ago attention seeking and really isn't a good choice for a guest.

ButWhatAboutTheBees · 20/08/2024 00:02

There's no issue with that backless dress in church unless it's a highly Catholic church maybe

Omeleto2024 · 20/08/2024 01:50

So yeah, the criss cross stringy thing looks uncomfortable and a bit home made - like someone thought ooh this dress isn't going to get enough attention, what can I add? The colour is unappealing, the ruffles are like a teenager's idea of a pretty outfit - overall the dress is just a bit ick and has 1980s prom dress vibes.

But you could get away with it if you really want.

Dita73 · 20/08/2024 02:02

I thought it was fine until I saw the back. It makes it look a bit slutty and cheap

KittyWindbag · 20/08/2024 02:48

OP I think it’s a gorgeous dress and you’ll look lovely.

I think it’s practically impossible to upstage a bride at her wedding, everyone is there presumably out of great affection for the bridge and/or groom, and so whilst I’m sure people will think you look great, their main focus will be on the happy couple so it really doesn’t matter what you wear as long as you make an effort to look smart in my opinion.

KittyWindbag · 20/08/2024 02:50

sorry I think that sounded snarky of me when it really wasn’t meant to. My point was directed at those accusing you of trying to show off, or whatever. No one ever accuses a man in a great suit of trying to upstage the groom, do they.

people will care much more about seeing the bride and groom and the events of the day. Your outfit is a great opportunity for you to feel good and have a nice day, it doesn’t affect them.

Mamai100 · 20/08/2024 03:11

I think it's lovely for a wedding. Is the bride known to be a bridezilla though? I only say this because of some of the responses so far.

I only cared that people had a good time at my wedding, I wasn't arsed that someone might 'steal my thunder' or whatever.

She said circles. If you're going to quote her, you should.

Not that I give a fuck.

The mods asked you to drop this a while ago.

Can't you start your own thread called "Arguing with a total stranger for some reason" and let the rest of read about dresses?

Josette77 · 20/08/2024 04:05

I love it!!!

I hope everyone at my wedding felt absolutely gorgeous and wore clothes that made them feel confident and sexy.
