Family wedding next year.. seen this dress online that I love....

Would I be unreasonable to think this is ok for a wedding guest? Or is it too bridesmaidy?

I wouldn’t choose a dress with that back as a guest or a bridesmaid.

Except for the evening do maybe.

I wonder if some posters didn’t click through?

It's a lovely dress, but perhaps a bit too "look at me" for a guest? What with the eleborate shoulders and back.

ButWhatAboutTheBees · 19/08/2024 09:58

OP - it's lovely, it's fine for a wedding and don't bother asking MN about outfits for weddings because most MNers are really weird about then

Thanks 😂😂😂

I tend to agree

It's usually even more entertaining when posters start showing you suggestions instead of the one you've asked about, like this... (totally opposite to what you've shown).

I honestly can't see one thing wrong with this dress?
People get crazy on this site over wedding guest outfits, I think it's lovely and in no way is it's 'a look at me dress'!

Happiestwhen · 19/08/2024 10:10

I think it's beautiful and the other posters who disagree are just old jealous prudes 😆 I have seen gypsy weddings where the guests are wearing next to nothing ffs. Go for it OP!

We don't wear 'next to nothing' but we do dress to impress! I loved everyone's dresses at my wedding. Why wouldn't you want guests to make an effort?

happyhemsby · 19/08/2024 10:20

It's beautiful op wear the dress! Don't listen to people here who think you shouldn't make an effort at other people's wedding that's just ridiculous.

rayofsunshine86 · 19/08/2024 10:24

I wouldn't have minded a guest wearing this to my wedding, even if it's a bit 'out there' (as long as hot pink isn't the bridesmaid colour). I'd rather that than someone wear casual or normal clothing.

You could always disguise the back with a jacket for the ceremony.

DoopSnoggySnogg · 19/08/2024 10:25

After reading replies I was expecting something Jodi Marsh esque 🤣

It’s a lovely, summery, sweet dress. If any guest had worn it at my wedding I wouldn’t bat an eyelid other than to say it looks fab.

DrRiverSong · 19/08/2024 10:28

I think it’s lovely. Really don’t see the problem as long as you aren’t in the same colour as the bridesmaids!

EliflurtleAndTheInfiniteMadness · 19/08/2024 10:29

I love it. If a guest at my wedding had worn it I'd probably have asked her where I can get one.

Purplecatshopaholic · 19/08/2024 10:31

Gorgeous dress. Totally fine for a wedding - I would defo wear that. You will get/already have got the weird MN ‘rules’ about wedding guest attire though…. Only possible reason there might be an issue is if bridesmaids are wearing the same colour. If not, defo go for it, you’ll look fabulous.

BluebellsareBlue · 19/08/2024 10:33

It's lovely!! Not too bridrsmady

Yes!

BluebellsareBlue · 19/08/2024 10:36

Oh god listen to the ones that wear a sack to a wedding? "It's too look at me". Oh be quiet!!
OP this is a lovely dress, it's not too much and not too bridesmaid like. It's perfect for a wedding, especially if it's a summer wedding.

Those that are saying it's too much are clearly those that are jealous they couldn't carry this off.

Weddings are where you wear you best and most beautiful clothes because that's often the only time people do get to go all out! That's why dresses like these are for sale! Races and weddings etc.

Go for it!

BluebellsareBlue · 19/08/2024 10:37

Wahine24 · 19/08/2024 09:44

It's a strong choice for a wedding with that back detail, do you not like the bride? I wouldn't worry about it being too bridesmaid-y !

Edited

Where the hell else would you wear it then?!? Tesco? What do you mean "do you not like the bride?" What kind of comment is that?!?

BluebellsareBlue · 19/08/2024 10:38

KimberleyClark · 19/08/2024 09:46

Way too attention seeking.

What do you mean?? Because of the clothes she is wearing she is looking for attention??!? So if she was subjected to attention she didn't want it's because of the clothes she was wearing?? Do you see how that sounds?!?

If you read her follow up post, apparently that was her being polite!

I think it’s way too much for a guest.

Soooo too much for a wedding guest? Where would this be acceptable to wear then and in what circumstances?

BluebellsareBlue · 19/08/2024 10:40

ComtesseDeSpair · 19/08/2024 09:51

I wasn’t aware that women’s upper backs and shoulders were considered so dangerously alluring as to be attention-seeking if shown. I think it’s a great dress, nice length, and unless the bridesmaids are also wearing hot pink can’t think how you’d be confused with one at all.

Absolutely this!!!!

EC22 · 19/08/2024 10:41

I like it a lot. I’d wear it.

Then you'll get:

"Hmmm, not sure I'd personally show so much ankle- what if the bride's ankles arent that great? wouldnt want to draw attention to my slender beautiful ankles, might make the bride feel shit about herself on "her" day- have some thought for others"

😆
