HEART ATTACK SYMPTOMS

Natalieannamay · 18/08/2024 13:21

Hi
on Fri afternoon I was sleeping with my 2 year old daughter when i felt the most awful burning pain in my chest , this went up to the right side of my neck and jaw. It was awful. I was dizzy and shaking, this all only lasted around 10 minutes. Since then iv been having palpitations and feeling really uneasy , iv also had a little upset tummy .
my partner is telling me i need to go get checked out. Im just nervous it’s something bad and they will keep me in, my daughter will only settle with me.

You have to go to A and E. it could be any number of things. It's best to be checked out.

MrsTerryPratchett · 18/08/2024 13:23

To be very blunt, if they keep you in, it's probably serious. Which means not getting checked out could leave your DD without you for much longer.

I see it as my duty as a mother to try to stay well. I'm naturally crap at getting healthcare for myself but being here long-term for DD makes me.

GO!

TerrorAustralis · 18/08/2024 13:24

How will your daughter settle when her mum is dead?

ButtSurgery · 18/08/2024 13:24

Go get it checked out FFS. Your DD will be fine with her father.

It's surely better than the worst case scenario of an undiagnosed heart attack which can grossly shorten your life and leave her without a mum.

This isn't something to dither about. Hopefully it's something minor but you can't know without being checked at hospital.

GO!!

TheShellBeach · 18/08/2024 13:24

Go to A and E.

Your daughter will have more to contend with if you die of a heart attack.

Being nervous that it "might be something bad" because they "might keep you in" - simply because your child won't settle without you is madness and I'm sure you know this.

If you go and it IS something "bad", then they can treat you. If you DON'T go... I don't think you need that spelled out, do you?

MTCoffeePot · 18/08/2024 13:26

Please go to A&E ASAP. You need to be checked out. This happened to me almost two years ago and it turned out to be a heart attack.

TooTiredOfThisShit · 18/08/2024 13:27

If your main worry is that it's bad enough that they'll keep you in, then of course you should seek medical help (I think you know that really...)

If you feel fairly well just now, and it's already been 48 hours (ie it's not an immediate emergency) then you could wait until you've settled your little girl, and then take yourself to A&E this evening? Or you could probably even wait and call the GP the morning - only you know how unwell you're feeling.

Twinklefloss · 18/08/2024 13:27

Call 111 to be triaged. They may call an ambulance to you if it’s indicated; there’s a lot paramedics can do to check you out at home. Or 111 may book you an appointment urgent care. Or I suspect they will tell you to to get to a&e pronto. But take some action - call 111 now or make your own way to a&e.

AmIHereReally · 18/08/2024 13:28

Whilst in youngish women, a heart attack is unlikely, it is important to remember that heart attacks can present atypically in women. It is not always the typical pattern of chest pain radiating down the left arm and shoulder.

And in women it can present as gastric symptoms.

Get yourself checked out.

KreedKafer · 18/08/2024 13:31

How’s your daughter going to settle if you’re dead, then? Just fucking go to A&E.

It’s not the end of the world if your daughter doesn’t settle for a night. It is the end of the world if you die.

RampantIvy · 18/08/2024 13:31

Your DD not settling is the least of your problems. Please seek medical advice NOW

Natalieannamay · 18/08/2024 13:32

I’m currently at my parents but heading home shortly, I’m not feeling bed at the moment, just palpitations keep coming on and off . I’m going to head home shortly and call 111 and see what they say. Thankyou for all replying.
I’ll update when I know more and spoken to 111 .

111 will send an ambulance, probably quicker to go directly Flowers

Mischance · 18/08/2024 13:34

I had a heart attack in July and am still recovering. I was all the wrong demographic for it - female, non-smoker/drinker, fishetarian - but there it was. They admitted me and I have had a stent put in my right coronary artery which was blocked to 94% in one place. If I had not sought help I would probably be dead now.

Get it checked. It is much more likely to be gastro-intestinal - e.g. gall stones - but that was what I thought! I could not have been more wrong.

Just go straight there, 111 will take hours to call back then send an ambulance. Quicker to just go straight to a&e yourself

TheGoddessFreyja · 18/08/2024 13:35

Too scared in case they admit you? If this is a heart attack happening lovely then your daughter will be without a mother forever if God forbid things turns worse. Please please think of your child and family and go get checked out. She'll manage for a night or two without you while you recover.

I’m glad you’re better now . I had my gollbalder removed years ago , it was just so strange as it was burning but painful,, iv had gas indigestion ect in the past but this felt different and frightening. I’m going to call 111 when I get home as ask there advice as if I turn up to my local walk in centre ill be waiting 12 plus hours to be seen. It’s a nightmare.

111 will send you to a and e. Just go to a and e. I know this because we called about something similar recently. Sent to a and e after waiting for 111 for ages.

OP from the British heart foundation.

Signs and symptoms of a heart attack in women
Heart attack symptoms can vary from person to person but the most common signs of a heart attack are:

  • chest pain or discomfort in your chest that comes on suddenly and doesn't go away. It may feel like pressure, tightness or squeezing. The pain or discomfort may spread to one or both of your arms, or may spread to your neck, jaw, back or stomach
  • shortness of breath or difficulty breathing with or without chest discomfort
  • feeling dizzy, light-headed or faint
  • feeling sick, indigestion, being sick
  • sweating or a cold sweat
  • a sudden feeling of anxiety that can feel like a panic attack
  • a lot of coughing or wheezing.
AmIHereReally · 18/08/2024 13:50

OP also Google ‘silent heart attacks’ and the consequences of delaying action. Not to scare you. Just to ensure you are making an informed decision.

PetrichorSoul · 18/08/2024 13:55

You won’t be sitting in A&E with symptoms
of a heart attack.

Even if you are left waiting, if you have another attack of whatever it was, isn’t it best that it happens in a hospital?

Why are you risking everything by putting off an A&E trip?? I cannot understand posters like you, asking for help and then ignoring what the majority are telling you.

alrightluv · 18/08/2024 13:56

I hope it isn't serious. I can understand how scared you feel I've had times when I thought I was a goner. Good luck with 111.

alrightluv · 18/08/2024 13:58

Actually I agree with others with those symptoms you're better off at a&e.

Nadeed · 18/08/2024 13:58

The chances are it is nothing and you will go home reassured.
They will do an ecg and give you blood tests. If it is a heart attack they will need to do tests to find out how bad it is and give you appropriate treatment. Its not unusual for a milder heart attack to be followed a number of days with a more major heart attack. That is why it is so important to get treatment. It can literally save your life.
