HEART ATTACK SYMPTOMS

Natalieannamay · 18/08/2024 13:21

Hi
on Fri afternoon I was sleeping with my 2 year old daughter when i felt the most awful burning pain in my chest , this went up to the right side of my neck and jaw. It was awful. I was dizzy and shaking, this all only lasted around 10 minutes. Since then iv been having palpitations and feeling really uneasy , iv also had a little upset tummy .
my partner is telling me i need to go get checked out. Im just nervous it’s something bad and they will keep me in, my daughter will only settle with me.

Go to A&E NOW

Iasonnas · 18/08/2024 14:00

"I’m going to call 111 when I get home as ask there advice as if I turn up to my local walk in centre ill be waiting 12 plus hours to be seen. It’s a nightmare."

You won't be waiting 12 hours at a&e and 111 will just send you to a&e.

So go to bloody a&e. And good luck.

Shiningout · 18/08/2024 14:03

111 will just call an ambulance or tell you to get someone to give you a lift in surely, they cant assess whether you've had a heart attack on the phone. So you may aswell just go to the hospital now while it's still early. 111 cannot diagnose chest pain you need to be seen in person.

ExtraOnions · 18/08/2024 14:05

The chances are it’s not, but, you are going to get more and more anxious (compounding things) until you know.

Acid Reflux can cause the original symptoms you mentioned, I get the same .. that burning sensation, travelling up. I too thought it was much more sinister when it first happens.

Palpitations, yep, get those too, and when i get them, I worry about them, which makes them worse. They are always worse when I am worried about something.

Neither of these have been heart attack signs for me, just unrelated incidents. As I say, you are not going to stop the worry until you know.

ExtraOnions · 18/08/2024 14:06

..forgot to say, the upset tummy can be connected to an excess of stomach acid, and the effect that that has on your whole digestive system (again, same happens to me)

I’m glad you’re better now . I had my gollbalder removed years ago , it was just so strange as it was burning but painful,, iv had gas indigestion ect in the past but this felt different and frightening. I’m going to call 111 when I get home as ask there advice as if I turn up to my local walk in centre ill be waiting 12 plus hours to be seen. It’s a nightmare.

Time is of the essense with symptoms like that RING 111 now,

You won’t be sitting in A&E with symptoms
of a heart attack.

Even if you are left waiting, if you have another attack of whatever it was, isn’t it best that it happens in a hospital?

Why are you risking everything by putting off an A&E trip?? I cannot understand posters like you, asking for help and then ignoring what the majority are telling you.

Edited

I’m not ignoring what people have advised. I have said I’m going to call 111 as can’t easily go sit in the walk in centre near my home for 10 plus hours with a small child, my partner has cancer and not in a fit state to watch my daughter all those hours especially at the moment while receiving treatment. I’m calling 111 , what happens after that I will have to make arrangements for my child to be looked after.

Can’t your parents and partner watch your daughter together whilst you go to a&e

Mischance · 18/08/2024 14:23

I waited 12 hours to be seen with my heart attack last month. They were doing ECG and blood tests, but it was 12 hours before I saw a doctor.

Alli88 · 18/08/2024 14:24

Your heart is on your left side and heart attack symptoms present as the weight of an elephant sitting on your chest so much more likely to be gastric but best get checked in case it's gallbladder

Thepeopleversuswork · 18/08/2024 14:28

Agree with others. Just cut out the middleman and go to A&E. Leave your child with someone.

Statistically it’s very unlikely to be a heart attack but why would you take chances.

RING 111 now, if they think there is a need they will send a paramedic (heart attacks and strokes are high priority) and take the child with you, it and you will be looked after, if not urgent then maybe A&E, but you will have time to sort child care then. Strange at ti may seem they (NHS) can deal with all eventualities

loobylou10 · 18/08/2024 14:31

You are ignoring the people who say 111 will (eventually) send you to a and e so go now!

Like a PP said, your daughter not settling will be the least of your problems if you delay further.
Seriously - just go!

TerrorAustralis · 18/08/2024 13:24

How will your daughter settle when her mum is dead?

What a horrible, insensitive thing to say Biscuit

HauntedbyMagpies · 18/08/2024 14:33

Mischance · 18/08/2024 13:34

I had a heart attack in July and am still recovering. I was all the wrong demographic for it - female, non-smoker/drinker, fishetarian - but there it was. They admitted me and I have had a stent put in my right coronary artery which was blocked to 94% in one place. If I had not sought help I would probably be dead now.

Get it checked. It is much more likely to be gastro-intestinal - e.g. gall stones - but that was what I thought! I could not have been more wrong.

*Pescatarian 🤣

Growsomeballswoman · 18/08/2024 14:34

Op if you gave chest pains they won't let you wait in the waiting room. You will be seen ASAP.

Newsenmum · 18/08/2024 14:35

When you’re a mum you have to be brave.
put your daughter first and get checked out.

Actually I think it’s a decent wake up call r

AShortName · 18/08/2024 14:37

Who will watch your daughter if you're dead?!

Believe me (happened to a relative last year) if it's the heart, you can go from alive to dead in the time it takes for you to collapse and for them to stop resuscitation.

AShortName · 18/08/2024 14:38

I see others have thought the same. You have to take this seriously.

Yes they do make you wait.

Growsomeballswoman · 18/08/2024 14:42

I went in last month for chest pain, straight in for ecg, then a bed in a&e. Bloods, another ecg and chest xray.I did not spend anytime in a waiting room. Sent home when bloods and xray back with a cardiac referral.

SnowflakeSmasher86 · 18/08/2024 14:43

I had similar last week. Was driving home from my BF’s house and thought I don’t want to go to bed in case I don’t wake up. Went straight to urgent care but they said if it happened again to go to A&E as they are better equipped to deal with it. I waited 5 hours, had an ECG and was referred for blood tests and further tests which won’t happen until September, so although I’m glad I went, it wasn’t treated as massively urgent due to the ECG not showing any issues for the 30 seconds it was attached.

It’s a huge worry, hope you’re ok OP.

Natalieannamay · 18/08/2024 14:48

Iv called my local walk in centre, as we don’t have an an and e where I live, it’s a hour away. They have said if I go there the current wait is 8 hours! There is also nothing they can do to here for me and would need to be transferred to the hospital a hour away if anything major. They have advised me to call 111 to which they will probably send an ambulance who will assess me and decide what I I do next.
so I’m calling 111 now to see what they say.
as iv commented above, I’m not ignoring advice to go to a and e ! We don’t have one locally. I have a small child, a partner going through cancer treatment and parents that are elderly with Parkinson’s and dementia so it’s obviously not a ideal situation to leave my very demanding toddler who only settles with me.
I’ll update when I know what’s happening.

I had a strange experience. Was in for an ecg within 20 minutes of arriving. But even though my troponin was raised slightly, they done a repeat test and I was in the waiting room longer than anyone else. People arrived after me, some admitted, some went home. But I sat in the waiting room from 5.30pm to 3am when they put me on a trolley in AMU. Even though they clearly suspected a small heart attack. So I guess it just depends.

I am the most health anxious hospital phobic person ever but I just knew I had to go. Ironically they discharged me after a couple of days of ekg monitoring and an ecg and xray. The cardiac Consultant said he "didn't think" I had a heart attack. So the last 3 months have been tough because I feel like even he didn't know for sure.

Best wishes to you OP, keep us updated
