HEART ATTACK SYMPTOMS

Natalieannamay · 18/08/2024 13:21

Hi
on Fri afternoon I was sleeping with my 2 year old daughter when i felt the most awful burning pain in my chest , this went up to the right side of my neck and jaw. It was awful. I was dizzy and shaking, this all only lasted around 10 minutes. Since then iv been having palpitations and feeling really uneasy , iv also had a little upset tummy .
my partner is telling me i need to go get checked out. Im just nervous it’s something bad and they will keep me in, my daughter will only settle with me.

Hope you're okay OP, it could also have been a panic attack especially given your family health problems, you must be under so much stress 🌸.

When you get home, whatever they say, please take it as easy as you can.

Those are not heart attack symptoms.

Edited

Can this dangerous crap be deleted please?

I reported this post to MN ages ago. Why is this dangerous advice still here?

It’s an issue that’s been ongoing for years. So many armchair medics offering dangerous advice and threads are left to stand.

FedUpMumof10YO · 18/08/2024 18:29

I think the post should stand for anyone experiencing something similar at any point.

And because I want to know the outcome.

NOTANUM · 18/08/2024 18:35

Good luck OP!

IMBCRound2 · 18/08/2024 18:41

Not in for the same reason but currently sat at a&e crying because my little one is going to have to attempt bedtime without me for the first time - sending solidarity- it’s just such an awful feeling!

Ifyoumust222 · 18/08/2024 18:45

So happy you are getting checked out by professionals.. right thing to do

indecisivewoman81 · 18/08/2024 19:05

I hope all is well

I think people have to take a bit of responsibility for themselves, though. This all clearly and openly not professional medical advice 🤷‍♀️

I’m now on my way to hospital, they have called me back and sent an ambulance. They said I’ll be having blood test and a ecg.

Good. I hope it’s all just a precaution.

But their is a lot of people with health anxiety on this app (not op) who ask quite basic medical things, to which 100 people tell them how their dads, grandmother's, neighbours boyfriend had something similar and how all the doctors where wrong and now their dead. This medical thread is quite straightforward but if it had been anything else op would have had 50 different diagnosis by now and told of the 2 million pounds of scans and tests she must insist the drs give her.

People with no actual fucking clue what they’re talking about post ‘medical’ advice with such authority. Anyone can say they’re an HCP. I don’t think I’ve seen a SINGLE thread over the years where at least one or two idiots have pitched in with completely irresponsible ‘advice’ and if an OP is dithering about what to do it’s those very posts that they’ll cling to.

I’m glad you’re better now . I had my gollbalder removed years ago , it was just so strange as it was burning but painful,, iv had gas indigestion ect in the past but this felt different and frightening. I’m going to call 111 when I get home as ask there advice as if I turn up to my local walk in centre ill be waiting 12 plus hours to be seen. It’s a nightmare.

My DH had really bad chest pains about 2 weeks ago - I just put him in the car and took him to a&e. His dad dropped dead of a heart attack at 60 and my DH is 55 - I wasn't taking any chances! He was thoroughly checked over with blood tests and ECG, they ran the tests twice to be sure and then he saw the Consultant Cardiologist. They were fairly certain it wasn't his heart, we were there for 6 hours. He's since seen the GP and been diagnosed with gastritis. Please get checked out, it could be something simple that needs treatment but it's better to be safe than sorry.

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 18/08/2024 19:26

and is this ambulance taking you to the hospital which you mentioned earlier is an hour away from home ?

is your daughter with you

or is your daughter staying with your partner ?

Best wishes OP. You at least are in the right place if there is any issue.

DuckbilledSplatterPuff · 18/08/2024 20:36

Best wishes OP. Hope its nothing serious, but glad you are getting it checked, so that you are in a place where they can prevent further damage.

Fetchthevet · 18/08/2024 21:03

Good luck OP. I had similar symptoms to you and went to A & E. My ECG was normal and it turned out to be a digestive problem (I get very painful wind!) I hope you get similar good news x

Tiredofallthis101 · 18/08/2024 21:27

Great to hear you're getting checked OP. I posted earlier but if went wrong and deleted to say 111 don't always get it right - my friend's 90 year old grandmother died of pneumonia when 111 told her daughter she probably just had a seasonal cough even though she was struggling to breathe. Also a neighbour died three days ago of a heart attack having been admitted to the hospital and the consultant telling her husband two hours before she died 'She's fine, I've no idea why she's here.' He consequently dithered at home packing some things up for her and missed the chance yo say goodbye.

It could well be nothing, and hopefully it is - but it's always worth getting checked out if you aren't sure and it is such (potentially) serious symptoms. Good luck!

Georgethecat1 · 18/08/2024 21:31

Happy they are checking you out, hope you get home soon

Myusernamemustbeatleastthreecharacters · 18/08/2024 21:58

Glad you are being seen hope you are OK and your toddler is settled x

gotohellforheavenssake · 18/08/2024 22:07

Good luck Flowers

SleepyRich · 18/08/2024 22:13

Such a frustrating waste of resources!!!

Of course you were always going to end up in A&E with "i'm wondering if I was having a heart attack". If you'd have just gone when after pretty much everyone told you to after asking advice you'd probably have your answer now; if you are actually unwell treatment would have been hours earlier, if it was just something like anxiety/indigestion then you'd likely be heading back home now (instead of something like 2am when you finally get through it tonight and then have to make your own way home).

In a somewhat even more frustrating turn of events for you, because you're such a delayed presentation even if it was a heart problem 2 days ago it's quite likely all your tests on the ambulance would be relatively normal to them. So you'll go right to the back of the triage queue at hospital and have a much longer wait then if you'd arrived at the front door by yourself and a history of chest pain but no examination had taken place.

For reference if anyone thinks they could be having a heart attack, the meaningful window for treatment is a round 12 hours. After this it's essentially diagnosis. I work in the ambulance service and our closest cardiac hospital where they performing stenting will only accept you 12 hours from onset, if our tests essentially prove heart attack in progress - but you've been having pain for 12 hours 30 minutes they will not accept and direct you to a local A&E to be cared for. So if you think it could be your heart then your only real decision should be are you well enough for family to take you to A&E or do you need to call 999.

I'm only frustrated because constantly ambulances are wasted on patients like this, in which there is absolutely no clinical benefit or need - you could have been at hospital hours before you even called 111. This is absolutely the typical call ambulance crews lose all their time with - the worried well. Leaving no capacity for the elderly fallers/fractures stuck on the floor waiting with their fractured hip - or that cardiac arrests/children not breathing now routinely have response times approaching 10 minutes. -

The system can't fix this problem itself because it's so risk adverse and everyone is defensive - absolutely no one gets in even a tiny bit of trouble if the not breathing/septic baby gets a response time of 20 minutes because no one was available - they don't look at all the non-jobs the last x ambulances that were available in the area were sent to. Just so long as that baby got it's cat1 code - meaningless when there's no one to send. Yet if anyone makes a mistake and misjudges the situation when delaying a response over the phone/telling to make own way then their names across the papers/whole career at risk. So frustrating. We routinely go weeks without providing any treatment just ferrying people back and forth which would have been just as well served by the taxi service (and in most cases would arrive at hospital much sooner).

I’m currently at my parents but heading home shortly, I’m not feeling bed at the moment, just palpitations keep coming on and off . I’m going to head home shortly and call 111 and see what they say. Thankyou for all replying.
I’ll update when I know more and spoken to 111 .

Because getting into a car with your child while having palpitations is a sensible decision. This is reckless and dangerous for you, your child, and whomever else your car comes in contact with if you lose consciousness. Absolute madness.

Magnolia1234 · 18/08/2024 22:53

@SleepyRich a cardiac problem could also be myocarditis, pericarditis, etc. If this the case and it is not minor then there likely will still be elevated troponin and therefore inpatient monitoring and treatment provided.

I'm unsure of your point.
