HEART ATTACK SYMPTOMS

Natalieannamay · 18/08/2024 13:21

Hi
on Fri afternoon I was sleeping with my 2 year old daughter when i felt the most awful burning pain in my chest , this went up to the right side of my neck and jaw. It was awful. I was dizzy and shaking, this all only lasted around 10 minutes. Since then iv been having palpitations and feeling really uneasy , iv also had a little upset tummy .
my partner is telling me i need to go get checked out. Im just nervous it’s something bad and they will keep me in, my daughter will only settle with me.

I had myocarditis and the initial symptoms were a burning like heartburn and palpitations. Please get it checked. Insist on a troponin test, results in an hour and will tell if any damage.

redalex261 · 18/08/2024 14:53

Hopefully it is nothing but you should get if checked ASAP. Heart attacks often present very differently in women, the severe acid reflux and neck/jaw pain featured in my mother’s at 39. She had ignored earlier things as thought she was too young and she didn’t have heaviness in left arm.

Better to suffer minor inconvenience now and find out you are fine than disregard something important because you are putting everyone else first.

Just go to a&e. Don't bother with 111 or a walk in centre, you need an urgent ecg and bloods

(I'm an a&e nurse)

Nadeed · 18/08/2024 14:54

@Itsdare That does sound scary.
I was worried about a heart attack and was given a bed on A and E ward while I waited for the second blood test. Awful that you had to wait in the waiting room.

SmileyHappyPeopleInTheSun · 18/08/2024 14:55

You really should pursue to get it checked out even though it's hard with childcare.

FIL just had a feeling of doom - GP took it seriously turned out he'd had a mild heart attack - getting it sorted so early meant they could stop further damage and it had less impact long term.

Op if you gave chest pains they won't let you wait in the waiting room. You will be seen ASAP.

My son waited 1.5 hours for initial triage with chest pains. Was pericarditis.

Can I ask your opinion what else can cause raised troponin? As mine was listed as 37 on my discharge letter but I was discharged with a diagnosis of palpitations (which I never experienced so not sure why)

IVbumble · 18/08/2024 14:59

Paramedics can find out the likelihood of it being a heart attack.

Remember not to drive if you have heart attack symptoms.

23Shadows · 18/08/2024 15:00

@Natalieannamay your last post saddens me. So many women are conditioned to put everyone else before their own needs, even when it could be life threatening. I hope 111 sort you out soon.

thebestinterest · 18/08/2024 15:04

Don’t be ridiculous OP! Would you rather your 2yr go a few nights without you, or the rest of their life without you? 🙄

I work in a cardiac ICU; much of the symptoms you’re describing do sound like a heart condition for which you MUST have checked out.

Mirabai · 18/08/2024 15:05

If you can’t get to an A&E, you could call your GP first thing tomorow to get an on the day appt, they can do an ECG and book a blood test.

If it happens again call for an ambulance (paramedics can do an ECG there & then).

SapphireMustique · 18/08/2024 15:08

You definitely do need to be assessed. Jaw pain was the main symptom of my relatives silent heart attack, he was lucky he made it to a walk in on time after his wife’s badgering as she knew something wasn’t right. Please do get yourself to a and e. Hope all turns out ok.

Normallynumb · 18/08/2024 15:17

You definitely need to be checked out
If pain continues call an ambulance
Paramedics will give an ecg.
If the trace indicates anything you'll be taken in at least for a blood test to see if troponin levels are raised

DogrosesinMay · 18/08/2024 15:19

Go to A&E op. Chest pain is not one to play roulette with.

LizzieBennett73 · 18/08/2024 15:21

I have a long term condition (costochondritis) but my GP said to never assume that a sudden onset of chest pain is due to it so I've had a few visits over the years. They usually triage you fairly quickly, take blood, then do an ECG. If that's OK, they boot me back to the outer waiting room to wait a couple of hours for bloods and I'm then discharged. Never been there for more than 6 hours even on a manic day and they've never told me off for attending either.

gotohellforheavenssake · 18/08/2024 15:25

Echoing everyone else, heart attacks can present very differently in women, especially if you are 'young'.

I had a heart attack at 35 years old. First symptoms was acid reflux, feeling faint and nauseous at work. I then couldn't stop vomiting. Was picked up by husband and an hour or so later was still vomiting, now pure bile, at home and boiling hot, couldn't open eyes without feeling overwhelmingly sick. Called 111 thinking I should see a doctor but unable to travel to one. Was most surprised when the sent an ambulance on blue lights who arrived in less than 10 minutes. At no point did I have chest pain, or arm or jaw pain. As someone else up thread had, there was a 90% blockage in right artery requiring a stent.

Take abnormal symptoms seriously!

Natalieannamay · 18/08/2024 15:26

Iv spoken with 111.
they have said as I’m not currently in pain they are getting a doctor to call me in the next hour. No idea what he will do or say, if not I’m calling my doctors first thing and asking for a ecg or blood tests.
they told me if the pain comes back to call 999 straight away.

To be blunt, you're no good to your daughter if you're dead. Stop dithering on mn and get to hospital

Deadbeatex · 18/08/2024 15:30

I'm saying this gently but seriously, if you don't get this checked out and it is a heart attack and you end up dying then your 2yr old will have to learn to settle with someone else forever. It's better that they have to settle with someone else this one time than to lose you. You don't mess around with symptoms like these, I understand and appreciate it's not straightforward to arrange childcare but you need to and you need to do it now. The longer you wait for treatment the more of your heart muscle is potentially dying which means a longer, poorer recovery.
Hopefully it's not your heart and I apologise for the bluntness of my post but I urge you to get yourself checked now

GinAndGooseberries · 18/08/2024 15:33

How old is you daughter?

MrsSunshine2b · 18/08/2024 15:33

Last week, my best friend's young, healthy husband was experiencing similar symptoms and went home to bed hoping to feel better in the morning. He never woke up and leaves behind a 33yo widow and 2 preschool children. Our whole social circle is devastated and broken. Please don't ignore it.

Wheresthebeach · 18/08/2024 15:44

Glad you've spoken to 111 OP. Best to be sure. Sounds like you've a lot on your plate right now, but best to take care of yourself as well as everyone else.

WhatMe123 · 18/08/2024 15:54

Hope your ok op, I read your partner is under going cancer treatment, I've been through the same as a partner, sending hugs

Aussieland · 18/08/2024 15:56

Natalieannamay · 18/08/2024 14:16

I’m not ignoring what people have advised. I have said I’m going to call 111 as can’t easily go sit in the walk in centre near my home for 10 plus hours with a small child, my partner has cancer and not in a fit state to watch my daughter all those hours especially at the moment while receiving treatment. I’m calling 111 , what happens after that I will have to make arrangements for my child to be looked after.

You are ignoring it. You don’t need a walk in centre. You need A&E and you will be seen quickly with chest pain

MSLRT · 18/08/2024 15:57

Definitely get checked out by a doctor but as an aside, that is how the last bout of covid started for me.
