This has just appeared in my news feed and I feel so upset and disillusioned. I was a labour voter, thinking we voted the bad guys out but I'm now really scared about what we've let in...what on earth have we done...? https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2024/08/17/education-secretary-bridget-phillipson-private-school-tax-r/

I can't believe anyone who has worries about paying VAT on their school fees even voted labour- seems your views are juxtaposed.

My children are not in private schools... Where on earth did I say this ..?

I can honestly tell that not one of you actually voted for Labour!

😂

It’s true. I have seen screenshots of many of the deleted comments.

Would you be able to post some here please?

The only saving grace is that they're almost certain to be a one-term government.

In fact I doubt they'll even last that long - I can see Sir Starmer being forced into a snap election in a couple of years time.

Are you serious? They have a massive majority. What is going to force them out mid term?

InsomniacsUnite · 17/08/2024 21:44

I am not surprised about what Labour are doing. I’m glad to say that I didn’t vote for them. It’s only going to get worse.

Teanbiscuits33 · 17/08/2024 21:45

Utterlydisillusioned · 17/08/2024 21:41

It's not her personal page. It's her official page as a democratically elected senior cabinet minister. It's her responsibility to serve and communicate with her electorate. Not block them

Is she your MP? If so, email her privately. If not, then it’s not her job to communicate with you directly, email your own MP directly with your concerns which can then be brought up in the HOC. That’s literally what you elect MP’s for. Perhaps she doesn’t want to answer the same question hundreds of times and only responds to such enquiries from her own constituents who email her.

Nevermind91 · 17/08/2024 21:47

I'd always suggest reading Animal Farm before voting Labour.

SocksAndTheCity · 17/08/2024 21:48

PonyPatter44 · 17/08/2024 20:31

Do you really seriously think the Daily Telegraph of all newspapers is doing anything other than desperately trying to smear Labour? I've been reading it for the past few weeks (long story) and sometimes the reaching to "blame Starmer" is laughable.

I know. I signed up to the email list for reasons I can't remember, and even though I knew it was a Tory rag I was shocked at how blatant it is.

There's no attempt to even try and look balanced or hide the anti Labour bias - it's basically GB News for people who can read 🤣

I didn't vote for Elon Musk. I voted for people I thought were honest and had integrity. This is what they told us. They said they were different, better. This is not right.

Edited

Hang on you though politician's were honest and had integrity. Where did you ever get that idea from?

I voted Labour because we needed a change the Tories have run this country into the ground. But I don't ever expect any political party to be totally above board because non off them are or ever have been. They are mostly out for themselves rather then the people, unfortunately that is she reality of the world we live in.

nietzscheanvibe · 17/08/2024 21:50

Fucking whinging Tories, where was your moral outrage during the 14-year Conservative shit-show? 🙄

Izzymoon · 17/08/2024 21:50

What a weird thing to complain about. Why would they have to keep any negative, rude or aggressive comments up?
Free speech doesn’t mean you can do whatever you want, whenever you want. You can say what you like to your friends, you can spray paint the same comment on someone’s driveway. Just as you can say something on your own social media, you don’t have right right to a public post on someone else’s platform.

StaunchMomma · 17/08/2024 21:51

The hysteria is quite something.

If you're shocked by page or group admins removing posts deemed aggressive, rude or repetitive (see 'generally critical' - which literally EVERY admin does!) I can only imagine you lost your actual mind over the shenanigans of Cambridge Analytica or Boris reportedly paying a 100k to a Russian bot factory to help smear the opposition when he ran for PM.

Cus, well, that's ACTUALLY dark shit, as opposed to admins just kinda doing their job.

Literally EVERYONE knows that admins on FB remove negative posts, from pop stars to businesses to, yes, politicians - the ones you like, too! Try criticising Johnny Mercer et al on Facebook and see how long your post stays up!

If you really want to stick the boot in, take it to Twitter. No admins there, just page managers, all they can do is block you.

How on brand for the Torygraph to keep up with the misinformation, though. They really never fail to disappoint, do they?

Mum2jenny · 17/08/2024 21:52

I actually voted labour as in this area there is a very good labour MP

They were not rude or aggressive. Simply questioning some policies.

Again, you are not entitled to post whatever you want on someone else’s platform.

Araminta1003 · 17/08/2024 21:54

I don’t see why she can’t confirm to all private school parents who can’t afford school fees plus VAT that they will get a state school place under the fair access protocol. It’s the law isn’t it?
Or wait a minute- she won’t do it because she knows that if too many do move the policy will be the biggest embarrassment as it will lose the tax payer money?
I think we only need to actually worry if they were to for example state that kids in private can’t go state after that. That would be undemocratic.

ChallahPlaiter · 17/08/2024 21:54

NAndJIsLockingDown · 17/08/2024 21:20

I hope you still feel the same way when a bloke in a frock is standing next to you in the changing rooms.

Did you not get the memo? The Tories are gone. We’re moving away from hate, division and culture wars.
Keep up!

nietzscheanvibe · 17/08/2024 21:50

Fucking whinging Tories, where was your moral outrage during the 14-year Conservative shit-show? 🙄

Have you ever heard of people having complex views? I know the Left LOVE to put people in boxes, and can't cope when someone doesn't fit into their neat little categories, but it is actually possible to like and dislike parties for numerous different reasons. Just because someone is criticisng Labour doesn't mean they're a whinging Tory-apologist.

Andante67 · 17/08/2024 21:56

"We’re moving away from hate, division and culture wars..."

You mean, the side of the "culture wars" that you disagree with?

The modern Left are anti-free speech. We've known this for years.

Yet Reform, a far right party, ran their campaign on the fact they wanted to remove us from the ECHR, meaning we would lose our right to free speech. The irony!

Really? I think they are a lot better than the last shower of idiots.

Livelovebehappy · 17/08/2024 21:57

We all know Labour weren’t voted in because people believed they were the good guys. The vote was tactical by many just to get the Tories out. And the reality is that they didn’t really think beyond that unfortunately. And here we are…..

Andante67 · 17/08/2024 21:58

The idea that the right to free speech is a right guarded and upheld solely by the ECHR is ridiculous. The UK has protected free speech long before the existence of the ECHR.

I read all media actually as I'm in the media sector. I read The Telegraph, The Guardian, The Mail, The Express, The Sun. All of them. It's my job. This is why I know this article is not about nothing and they would never be able to publish it without hard evidence

Oh balls. You read the media for a living and you know nothing about the tricks the right wing press get up to? You’ve not noticed the ludicrous headlines and truth distortion in the Telegraph over years and years? Pull the other one!
