To feel so upset about the government censorship?

This has just appeared in my news feed and I feel so upset and disillusioned. I was a labour voter, thinking we voted the bad guys out but I'm now really scared about what we've let in...what on earth have we done...? https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2024/08/17/education-secretary-bridget-phillipson-private-school-tax-r/

So, OP. A message ‘appeared in your FB newsfeed’? And you had a damascene revelation that there is Government censorship? Another right wing shill. Moscow bot. Who knows? We see you.

This has been reported on in legitimate newspapers. It's not a social media conspiracy.

How about screenshot to prove the point?

What point?

Utterlydisillusioned · 17/08/2024 21:58

Thank you. I'm not a Tory but I am very very very upset at this... I don't want this. I want a country where we are free to question, express our objections and where democratically elected cabinet ministers have a duty to respond and engage with those who elected them. It's not about which side you are on. It's about democracy, respect and freedom. Anyone who says "this is how it is, you are stupid and should just accept it". I don't. The same way people didn't accept communism, racism or misogyny. I find it disturbing

Edited

You must know that isn't how it works. Can you imagine how busy Victoria Atkins would have been if she'd had to personally engage with everyone who's operation didn't happen or who's cancer went undiagnosed under the Tories?
The electorate are represented by their MP, who is the person they vote for. The MP has a duty to engage with them. The cabinet minister has a duty to engage with their own constituents only. People who want to complain about the VAT policy need to do so via their own representative, their local MP.

Thank you @Dibblydoodahdah . None of them look very aggressive or offensive, right? I hope other posters will make the effort to find them in this thread but I can't understand why they would be removed...

I could post lots more but I don’t want to clog up this whole thread. None of the ones I have are are aggressive or offensive, their “crime”
is disagreeing with Bridget Phillipson.

Bilbonne · 17/08/2024 22:14

More fool you for voting for them

Oh the self importance of Telegraph commenters! Screenshot for the inevitable national enquiry no doubt. 😂

What actually is your point? The Telegraph weren’t the only paper that were contacted about this story but they were the paper who decided to publish it. I knew about the story long before it appeared in the Telegraph.

Utterlydisillusioned · 17/08/2024 22:17

Here you are all - those thinking that I'm a Tory voter, avid Telegraph reader and the story is skewed. This is a story in The Guardian (not a right wing paper, right?) from a few weeks ago about Labour party limiting free speech at the universities. Not a right wing paper, nothing to do with schools or VAT. Nothing at all. As I said - I read all media for my job. Labour is limiting free speech. Full stop. It's a disaster and if we don't stop it in time, we are facing a bleak future. www.theguardian.com/education/article/2024/jul/26/labour-halts-tory-law-freedom-of-speech-universities-education

Oh apologies I thought it was completely obvious. That posting a bog standard moan on a platform that nobody influential is ever going to glance at and then pompously declaring that you’re screenshotting it as though you’re protecting the only remaining copy of War and Peace makes you - generic you - look a proper prat.

Utterlydisillusioned · 17/08/2024 22:22

AInightingale · 17/08/2024 22:06

In a few weeks, they've already managed to upset most pensioners and thousands of working-class people, who now feel effectively silenced when it comes to questioning or protesting large-scale immigration. The dispersal of up to 70,000 asylum seekers into private or council accommodation will see rents rise and waiting lists burgeon. I really am worried about the next five years; we could end up with a housing crisis on the scale of Ireland's.

Thank you and I hope everyone will see your post. It's becoming too much about VAT on schools but, as you say, there are many other groups and promises they have betrayed already. Thank you for adding substance and widening this conversation, as it should be

Do you think calling people names strengthens your argument?! The OP asked me to share the screenshots so I did. I didn’t save them, I merely went on to the page where I originally saw them and reposted them here.

TattiePants · 17/08/2024 22:24

What a lot of ridiculous hyperbole. It’s not uncommon for MPs and others in the public eye to remove comments. I imagine I’ve been following her page way longer than most on here and her page has always deleted comments. It’s just now the comments are about SEN instead of the demolition of the Town Hall.

No, I think it makes her /him looks conscientious. It's not an empty accusations if people have proof?

Wow a huge amount of posters on here have ‘witnessed with their own eyes’ posts being deleted. Crazy you’d all find this thread at the same time!!!

yup.

The Telegraph, you say?

I mean obviously you read the article because it’s your job, blah blah, but did you actually read the article? This is about the government deciding not to go ahead with a previous proposed bit of legislation which was designed to undermine academic credibility and would have been extremely costly and difficult for universities to enact. In addition, the government has said it will continue to look at free speech within universities, and this move has been welcomed across the board including by the Russell Group.
It’s really not what you think, or affect to think it is.

In fact it was a description rather than a “name”. HTH!

It's awful and so sad. Anyone cheering the government on should realise that they'll come for you eventually

It’s one Facebook page. Seriously get a grip.

I find it hard to believe this thread isn’t some kind of co-ordinated ‘attack’

She's removed my comments asking politely what reassurances she is giving to parents who cannot get their children placed into local schools.

I didn't vote Labour. You were warned. There will never be 6500 new teachers. It's all lies.

Yes exactly, nobody wants to be a teacher. They’ll make even more of a mess of the system and leave hundreds of children displaced.

Utterlydisillusioned · 17/08/2024 22:31

@Dibblydoodahdah I agree and you should report that comment. This is what people do when they lack words
