I can't put my finger on it but I always feel depressed in August. June on the other hand is the perfect month.Grin

Yes the sun is setting at just after 8pm now, I turned the lights on at quarter to nine last night and it was already dark. There's no gentle sunsetting it just gets dark really quickly, all of a sudden I'm sat in the dark.

And it's dark at 5am when I get up to let the cat out.

It's starting to feel like early autumn which I suppose it will be in a week.

Agree on the nights drawing in quickly… lights on just after 8pm here, or we fall over the dog! Find myself sitting with the DDog (as she’s very fluffy and warm) to watch tv, and DP was heard muttering about how long til the fire is on 😱

There are starting to be “blanket wars” here - whoever sits down first gets the remote and top choice of fluffiest blanket!😀

I was looking at the leaves at the weekend - in just 1 week, there’s such a difference… looking dry and crispy now and have a sort of “worn-out” appearance, other trees are starting to change colour.

I quite like it, Summer has been poor anyway, so might as well embrace the new season!

The nights drawing in are a bit of a wake up call to the end of summer. I saw Christmas things for sale in Halfords of all places the other day!
They rush us through the year

We have been on holiday in north devon for the past week and can certainly sense that summer is on it's way out.
We have had a few hours at the beach each day but the mornings and evenings are chilly.

I'm full of something (cough, scratchy throat, snotty nose), lying on sofa in winter pjs and fluffy dressing gown, fire on, wrapped in blanket...trees outside knocked over by last nights storm...In my head we're in the depths of Autumn now!

I think it's definitely worth bearing in mond when booking UK summer breaks. DS is year 1 so never really thought about it before, but our break in the North East at the end of July had a lovely late-spring feel to it whereas our friends who live up there are now having sunshine but with cold winds and dark evenings.

I love August as a month, but this last week of August always seems a little disconcerting. Some schools are already back but some have got another week or so of the holidays left. It's a weird in between kind of time.
This week was supposed to be hot but the weather has been a little disappointing where we are. I love autumn (my favourite season) but I enjoy late summer and August sunshine knowing the 'ber' months are coming. I feel a bit robbed of the joy this year because summer has been a bit of a washout the last couple of weeks. I don't feel quite ready to embrace autumn but summer is not summering.
I always get a bit nostalgic in August, remembering my childhood summers spent riding bikes, playing with friends and family holidays. It always seemed such a long, lazy month. Nowadays it flies by!

Another fan of autumn here. I am literally counting down the days until September. I live in a part of the country where the autumn colours are beautiful. No need to go to New England living here.

Really enjoying the nights drawing in now. I start the dog walk when it's starting to get back and arrive home when the street lights are on 😆
Makes the last cup of tea if the day better somehow.
