I can't put my finger on it but I always feel depressed in August. June on the other hand is the perfect month.Grin

We have our holiday the last week of August which for me makes it still feel like there's plenty of the six weeks holiday left. But if I didn't I think I'd be thinking more about start of school etc and probably would be starting to feel a bit blue.

YABU for describing June as the perfect month, I hate it 😂😂

I know what you mean I always feel a bit in limbo second half of August, it’s muggy and my garden looks a bit limp.

I like Autumn and Spring. Love October.

I adore October, the chill in the air, autumn leaves, Halloween - only dampener is the winter that arrives after it!

Like others , I get a strange , sad feeling at this time of year , I think it’s the “ back to school “ feeling , even though I’m 51 .

It was DD’s 4th birthday today, so I am very happy!!

I love summer but not when it’s too hot. Summer rain is like my favourite thing in the world. So no complaints here.

We are back to this next year, A Level results timing meant we went early in July.

Nourishinghandcream · 17/08/2024 19:34

Although spring is definitely my favourite time of year (gentle warmth, evenings starting to draw out, garden & countryside coming into leaf etc), late August is ok as we can start planning to go to all those places that we avoid during the summer.
Come the first day of term we are away in the moho making up for lost time.😆

LonelyInDville · 17/08/2024 19:35

I’m the opposite I love the end of August and hate hate hate June and July. I start getting sad around April, i dread the summer 😂

SilentWords · 17/08/2024 19:35

It’s the golden hour of the year!

PassingStranger · 17/08/2024 19:37

I could live permanently in Spring and Summer. Light evenings. Warm days. Life seems more carefree. Sitting in the garden is so nice and getting the washing dry.
I dread Autumn and Winter.

Grute · 17/08/2024 19:45

My 1st born is starting primary school in just over 2 weeks. She’s looking forward to it but I’m feeling pretty sad about it all 🥲 otherwise I like this time of the year. It still very much feels like summer, even though it’s coming to a close. Our garden is still in bloom, the dahlias, lilies and some of the roses have just flowered again and there’s lots of families enjoying the beach.

May/June & September/Oct have always been my favourite months though.

Saturdayafternoons · 17/08/2024 19:53

I hate August too, always have.

It's always humid, boring. The news is rubbish. No political news to speak of (riots aside this year!), I always just have to throw myself into reading books. Mine are teens now, but I was the same when they were tiny.

I adore September and the start of the school year - I also work in a school.

AlmostCutMyHairToday · 17/08/2024 19:54

Same. It's so sad. I grew up in Southern Europe and August does NOT feel as sad as it does in the UK. The sun feels like it's dying here ahhhh.
I love April and May as there's still so much promise. June is the height of joy, then it's downhill from there.

Newsenmum · 17/08/2024 19:55

Me too.

  1. I’m exhausted from the kids being off school and feel like a bad mum in some way.
  2. summer is nearly over. Have I done enough? Had it been good enough? What else can we do before autumn draws in?
  3. if I’m ever feeling down or things are going wrong I feel so much worse about it in summer. It seems like everyone’s either on holidays or out and about with friends.
JamSandle · 17/08/2024 19:57

Jan and Feb are the months that do this for me.

GreenTeaLikesMe · 17/08/2024 19:58

August is actually quite a wet month in the UK. May and June are the driest months.

the80sweregreat · 17/08/2024 19:59

I've always found it unsettling. No idea why though.

HoppityBun · 17/08/2024 20:00

It’s the beginning of autumn. There’s a certain melancholy in the air.

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 17/08/2024 20:00

Nooooo, it's my birthday month! Love it!

LuckyC27 · 17/08/2024 20:03

Last two weeks of August and first two of September I don’t like as it feels like the end of summer and then the new school term starts so all feels very final. But I do like autumn and winter up until January and then I hate jan-March as it’s so cold bleak and boring.

excesssoil · 17/08/2024 20:03

I love spring and early summer. As someone further up said, I feel like it's all downhill from August. I didn't like school and hated going back in September and still get that weird anxious feeling in my stomach, along with the Sunday Night Fear.

ISeriouslyDoubtIt · 17/08/2024 20:04

I agree. The nights are drawing in, the garden is looking jaded, berries everywhere, the leaves on the trees have that dark green end of summer look. I saw a spider web covered in raindrops and heard the beautiful yet melancholy song of a robin today, summer's coming to an end and most likely here in South Wales it will rain for 6 months from September, so you don't get lovely frosty mornings or walks where you can kick crisp leaves, it's just damp and grey and dull. That's why it's depressing.
My favourite months are April, May and June, everything is fresh and new and bright green, birds are nesting, garden bursting with spring and early summer plants, it makes you feel full of hope.

Whale80ne · 17/08/2024 20:05

I love spring and summer, like the poster passingstranger said. Things feel lighter in multiple ways, there's less to lug around, there's more day. April to the end of September is the best half of the year by miles and miles. I love being mostly outdoors - I've been fortunate that I could do my job about 50% outdoors this year, though it's not usually the case, and this just makes everything pleasanter.

I do live outside the UK though (we have plenty of wasps...) where summers are hotter and winters are colder.

TheWayTheLightFalls · 17/08/2024 20:05

I love it!

End of the holidays are in sight, thank the good Lord.

Nothing gets done work-wise, because someone somewhere is off / just back / just going. So DH is around more.

Weather pleasant.

Lots of casual meet ups and picnics in the local park for whoever of the kids' friends happens to be in town that week.

I'm in the fuck-off February camp, me.

Lemonyfuckit · 17/08/2024 20:06

I know what you mean. We take our summer holiday in September so on the one hand I've still got that to look forward to (and boy am I counting down the days at work) but it sort of is starting to feel like summer is over without having properly started (or me having spent all summer waiting for it to start and now it's on its way out). Felt like an autumnal nip in the air yesterday morning!
