It's been in the news today. Monkey Pox or M pox is spreading they have found a case in Sweden now and hinted it could spread more.
Anyone worried or is it scare mongering.

It seems to be in the news again?😪

Couldn't give a monkeys

DancelikeFredAstaire · 17/08/2024 16:36

Nope, doesn't bother me 1 bit.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 17/08/2024 16:34

Nice try, but nope....still not worried.

Wasn’t trying to change your mind. I agree with you about not worrying.

I was really just thinking about the differences in what Covid v Mpox does to sufferers. I doubt there’d have been covid vaccine refusal if all the people who got it had boils on their face.

Nope, not worried at all.

Xmasxrackers · 17/08/2024 16:47

Sky news are now saying it’s highly likely already in the country

We really need to batten down the hatches.

Well you do that.

The rest of us will be getting on with our lives.

You were saying the exact same thing in Feb 2020. How did that turn out?

In terms of the UK, I do not think this is a massive worry, and I was concerned about covid early on. I could see covid was going to become a real issue and was irritated at those minimising it.
But MPox has visible signs with blisters and needs close contact. Unlike covid you are not going to get this from sitting in a cinema with someone who has it a few rows back.
I think it is coming to the UK. Those who will get it will be prostituted people, people who have lots of sexual partners and who have group sex/visit sex clubs.
There may be some cases in nurseries - young kids tend to be huggy. But there will be a lot of news about it, and the nurseries will be closed down until they know its safe for kids to return. It is possible there might be a few outbreaks in primary schools for the same reason.
The important thing is that medics are educated on how to diagnose this. You can get chickenpox and MPox at the same time. Because misdiagnosis will lead to greater spread. But for most people it will not be any more concerning in the UK I think than the meningitis outbreaks we sometimes get.
The fact elderly people are largely already vaccinated will help prevent the spread in hospitals and care homes we would otherwise get.
Totally different for children in the Congo and it is awful.

They are saying that you might be able to get it from coughs and sneezies, so you might get it in a cinema or restaurant.

Time to start shutting the likes of cinemas and restaurants down then.

I don't really get your logic - you think it's really only people who have many different sex partners will get it.. And also children? Where do you think they'll be getting it from? Do you think that no other adults hug or get close? Like... the kids' parents?

It's also spread by handling bedding and clothes of infected people, so that potentially includes carers, medical staff, cleaners. And coughs and sneezes, so also school kids, train and bus passengers, air travellers, customers of pubs, clubs, shops.

I just hope that vaccines are being stockpiled in sufficient amounts.

It will be. I don't think it's unlikely it will be in my son's school in a few weeks, and I think I'll tell him not to go in for a while

I wouldn't rise to it I remember this poster from the covid board I can't quite decide if they are majorly taking the mick
Or genuinely want us to be in lockdown forever.

I remember them too, it's just pathetic that they haven't got bored yet.

namechangeforthisi · 17/08/2024 20:58

It's hard to say but it could happen there will start being outbreaks in schools if the government can't contain it, and I don't think anyone would be sending them in. Some one had pointed out to me the fatality rate is higher because it's affecting people with malnutrition, but waiting to see here would be crazy

Didn't covid do enough damage to the hospitality industry? Closing them now would finish it off completely. You might not like going out (or have any friends to go out with going by your posts) but many of us do

It was Covid itself that did the damage, not the Lockdowns.

If protections were put in place earlier, Lockdowns could have been shorter which would have means less damage to hospitality.
