Other people’s Botox habits making me look old

I’m in my mid thirties and I look my age, I think. I’m starting to get some creases round my eyes and some fine lines in my forehead and a deeper line in my smile crease.

im not necessarily bothered but over the last few years I’ve started to notice most of the friends and colleagues around my age ageing backwards 🤣

I went to the hairdresser the other day and the 17 year old apprentice was chattering away with a complete lack of tact as they often do and I mentioned approaching 40 in an offhand way she gasped and said oh I thought you were already past 40. When I revealed my true age of 36 she said seemed really suprised.

it got me thinking- as Botox seems so widely popular now has it changed perception to thinking people in their thirties are still fresh faced and wrinkle free ??!!

perhaps I just need to jump on the wagon and have some filler?

thoughts?

I got botox on my 11s once, I liked looking less angry but decided it wasn't worth the price (would only get it done by a properly trained medical professional). I'm quite lucky though, I'm very oily which seems to be keeping my skin mostly smooth!

Hated my oily skin as a teen, whereas I have a new found appreciation for being a greaseball as I get older. 😁

i have a vision that in 20 years time (less or more) there will be a health scandal about vapes and botox/fillers. that they were unregulated, unapproved etc and the companies that made them have vanished. And we have a relatively young population whose lives may be blighted by the chemicals they inhaled/injected

FussyPud · 15/08/2024 13:09

The only person in my friendship circle that has Botox has it for migraine prevention. I think we’re a ‘sunscreen, moisturise, hope for the best’ kind of group.

Lakeyloo · 15/08/2024 13:16

An apprentice at my OLD hairdressers gasped when i said i was 40, and then declared that she couldn't imagine how it would feel to have half your life gone 😳

https://www.skinandme.com/?promocode=ADELEC5FMX here's a shameless Skin and Me promotion code should anyone fancy trying a tretinoin prescription with a discount. It seems to help me look fresher....but I'm not a fan of botox or fillers if I'm honest. Looking natural and well is my aim really 👍🏼

Hi so I have just used your code but for Skin and me but not sure if its tret I have ordered , daily doser and they have thrown in a cleanser and moisturiser is that the one ?

Cool! Thanks, @Twins3007 and enjoy! Yes I did that trial of a few items at first, then just stuck to the tret when the discount finished to keep my costs down. Wearing spf's in the day's really important and I don't use it as much in the Summer because it makes you more prone to catching the sun, which seems counter productive! It does seem to smooth lines, prevent acne and make you glow more. Your daily doser is the one to use with tret, I believe 👍🏼

I'm also oily skinned I don't think I look younger or glowing but it definitely helps how the skin looks and feels.

CaptainBolt · 15/08/2024 14:03

No, don't get filler. Can at least some of us still look like humans when we're 70?

Whatthefuck3456 · 15/08/2024 14:12

Do it OP, I feel amazing with Botox and would definitely recommend!

circular1985 · 15/08/2024 14:13

I'm 42 and have had Botox for around 4 years. People can overdo it, but if you go to a great clinician you don't have to have a frozen face. All of my same age friends have it done. I don't think it makes me look younger, but it does make me look fresher and more awake, and my make up goes on better. Each to their own.

Personally, I would never have my lips done or filler though as I don't think I need it.

I'm rather worried about this too.

pippaswallpaper · 15/08/2024 14:38

I agree with @circular1985 that botox doesn't necessarily make you look younger, just fresher. Though the frozen and raised eyebrows look is a different matter.

bryceQ · 15/08/2024 15:02

I find skin and me do really low Tretinoin dosages I prefer Dermatica.

I think we have lost concept of normal aging faces. I like to think I have good skin but it looks different in my mid 30s compared to my early 20s.

bryceQ · 15/08/2024 15:03

Shameless Dermatica code if anyone wants that. I've used it for 4 years and very happy

I can give you another way to loose the lines, put on a bit of weight, seriously, I'm over weight but everyone thinks I'm far younger because I don't have proper wrinkles

Lifeomars · 15/08/2024 15:26

There is no way I could afford Botox so having it has never been an option for me. i have a lined forehead due to having a mobile and expressive face, began to see lines when I was in my early 20's which I have to admit horrified me. However I have no crow's feet, minimal nose to mouth lines as I guess I am not a very smiley person! . I am lucky enough to have good bone structure, and only smoked a few fags in my mid teens. However I look old, I look my age, but I am presentable What does mark your face is life, the things we go through do show and there should be no shame in that. In fact we should be be proud and not seek to erase them. As for that 17 year old, anyone over 21 is ancient to them and one day she will look back and cringe at some of the things she said and thought

InterIgnis · 15/08/2024 15:29

I like my Botox. I’m under no illusion that it makes me look younger, but I do think it makes me look better. Others may disagree but that’s fine, what matters is that I like it.

FastFood · 15/08/2024 15:32

When you're 17, everyone above the age of 22 looks geriatric. I wouldn't pay attention to what this apprentice said at all.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 15/08/2024 15:34

I'm 52 and have probably looked a bit younger than I am up to now. I'm just beginning to get the odd line. I would never get Botox. I don't care if I look my age.

poppymango · 15/08/2024 15:53

Lentilweaver · 15/08/2024 10:46

Am 52. I use Tret. I think I look pretty good though not necessarily young. Never getting Botox or fillers. Ever. Don't care if everyone else looks like Molly Mae!

What is tret?

poppymango · 15/08/2024 15:55

selfesteemfan · 15/08/2024 11:41

How are you guys getting hold of tretinoin?!

Ohhhh ok off to google this now!

ItsAlrightDarling · 15/08/2024 15:56

I’m 40 with no botox. I like to think I look my age, and people with botox look their age, but with botox.

poppymango · 15/08/2024 16:16

My two cents...

Botox and fillers can look great if done well, but often it isn't. And you can certainly delay the ageing process by a few years, but not forever. Jennifer Aniston and Nicole Kidman have strange, giant, puffy faces that don't move, all because they don't want to age past 30. No judgement if it makes you happy (I'd be lying if I said I'd never thought about it) but truly I don't think it's a lack of wrinkles that makes a person beautiful. I look at the women in my family and I can see laughter lines and happiness and life and expression; do I think any of them would be more beautiful with botox/fillers/surgery? Absolutely not!!

Obviously you want to take care of your skin and hair and teeth, stay healthy and keep in shape. And sure there's no harm in a magic face cream if it makes you look glowy and healthy and lovely. But I would still want to look like me, and I think that often gets lost. So many celebrities now look almost interchangeable because they get the same procedures. It's kinda sad.

I am hoping all this will be a bit of a beauty phase that will die out. I reckon big puffy lips and giant feathery eyelashes will be what people parody in the future when making fun of 2020's fashion!

Well considering the latest research is coming out that facial botox impedes neural pathways to the brain similar to Parkinsons disease I don't think we should be encouraging it when younger.
Facial responses are changed and
It literally changes your brain!

Look at then breast implant scandal
I think this and fillers will be heading the same way.

That's absolutely terrifying, I hadn't heard anything about that.

asbestosmouth24 · 15/08/2024 16:24

people saying aging can be in the genes, well this is not always the case. my mum now in her 70s has always looked so young for her age which everyone has always commented on. me on the other hand her daughter unfortunately has not inherited her youthful looks genes. I'm mid 40s and have a very deeped lined forehead and lines around my eyes and mouth (which mum still hasn't got) saying that I do have a very different face shape to mum and facial bone structure so I smile differently which I think has caused my deeper creases. it really gets me down when people are going on about how great mum looks for her age.
