Other people’s Botox habits making me look old

Humanpincushion · 15/08/2024 10:36

I’m in my mid thirties and I look my age, I think. I’m starting to get some creases round my eyes and some fine lines in my forehead and a deeper line in my smile crease.

im not necessarily bothered but over the last few years I’ve started to notice most of the friends and colleagues around my age ageing backwards 🤣

I went to the hairdresser the other day and the 17 year old apprentice was chattering away with a complete lack of tact as they often do and I mentioned approaching 40 in an offhand way she gasped and said oh I thought you were already past 40. When I revealed my true age of 36 she said seemed really suprised.

it got me thinking- as Botox seems so widely popular now has it changed perception to thinking people in their thirties are still fresh faced and wrinkle free ??!!

perhaps I just need to jump on the wagon and have some filler?

thoughts?

How rude.

And Botox doesn't make you look younger- it makes you look Botoxed.

TygerLyon · 15/08/2024 12:20

I’m nearing 50 and starting to notice that the fresh young botoxed look starts to look odd past mid to late 40s.

Aging with Botox and fillers isn’t as attractive as users believe it is, and the constant need to look young is akin to a mental illness.

I know several people addicted to Botox, and honestly they start to look weird and stretched. They may look slightly younger than you now, but give it 10 years or so and see how you feel about it!

Not necessarily true. This is like when people say all fake tans look orange. Bad ones do.

I know a woman who has Botox done...she genuinely doesn't look botoxed....she just look like she looks brilliant for her age.

Instaflan · 15/08/2024 12:24

If you want filler get filler, but don't do it because you think you just should. I'm 40 and also seriously considering getting some as I have a few really deep eye creases, but then where does it stop? I still want to have expression and movement in my face. And I think lines and marks and what make peoples faces interesting.

I also think a lot of women look so much older specifically because of all the filler they've had pumped in.

We all need the link to tret, im googling Tretinoin but getting links to retinol ect. I'd like to sack the botox off!

As far as I am aware there is zero scientific evidence that injecting Botox at a young age can be preventive. Of course clinics will push this concept as it's a big money maker for them.

Preventative botox just sounds like an expensive con. Or can someone point to an actual scientific study proving it's effectiveness?

Lilifer · 15/08/2024 12:31

I just signed up to skin and me, answered a whole pile of questions , took ages only to get to the end where they suggest products to you ( none of which contained trentinoin) so that was a waste of time - there doesn't seem to be any way to ask for it without e mailing their customer advise team with a 24 hour response time, I can't be bothered with that , there should be an option to ask for this product, they decided what I needed instead of giving me a choice

PayYourselfFirst · 15/08/2024 12:34

AnnaKing81 · 15/08/2024 11:47

Botox is best used as a prevention rather than a cure, best to have it younger.
I started in my early 30s to prevent the deep lines.
I wouldn't bother now if you're happy and not worried about the opinions of others.

Those saying they would shout at the innocent comment of a 17 yr old, really???
She is a teenager who thinks everyone over 30 is ancient. Leave her alone.

Well considering the latest research is coming out that facial botox impedes neural pathways to the brain similar to Parkinsons disease I don't think we should be encouraging it when younger.
Facial responses are changed and
It literally changes your brain!

Look at then breast implant scandal
I think this and fillers will be heading the same way.

I think when it’s so easy to get rid of lines - forehead and 11s in particular, it’s not surprising that loads of women have Botox. My niece first had it at 23 😮

I don’t think it necessarily makes you look younger, but it does freshen you up and make your skin look better. In my case, I like not looking permanently cross.

There is "girls" my dd went to school with who are now mid 20s and unrecognisable because there has been too much maintenance work done to their faces!

Op I wouldn't worry what a 17 year old thinks they have nothing to go on because they think everyone over 25 is ancient and wrinkly.

Purplecatshopaholic · 15/08/2024 12:38

IKnowAristotle · 15/08/2024 10:46

Ignore the 17 year old as anyone over the age of 25 is ancient when you're a teenager.

This, lol. And far more people don’t use fillers or Botox than do. Genes, skin care, life style come into it too.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 15/08/2024 10:43

Fucking hell,I'd have torn a strip off a gobby 17 year old talking like that when I'm paying good money to be pampered!!

Edited

well this for a kick off! I dislike the frozen botoxed face look and would pay not to have it. If I were you I'd be asking myself what I want and why I want it....but I have never been one to listen to what "society" thinks.

TinkerTiger · 15/08/2024 12:42

I obviously have no idea what you look like, but some people look old for their age. That's not on other people using fillers etc, it's just genes. As others have said, fillers/botox doesn't make people look younger.

Opinionsneededd · 15/08/2024 12:42

Oh OP.

Brace yourself for the endless comments about how posters are 105 and have no wrinkles yet, and actually you look really old for your age and should not have a wrinkle in your 30's. There's already been some..

Bragging on a post how your in your 40's and don't have wrinkles, on a thread where a woman is talking about hers at a younger age, is insensitive, socially inept, and stealth boasty at best. Just plain snide in most cases though I'd say.

justbeingasmartarse · 15/08/2024 12:45

she gasped and said oh I thought you were already past 40.

Did she really?😯
Cheeky bitch

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 15/08/2024 12:45

God God at 17 even a 21 year old is ancient. At 36 you’re a bloody dinosaur. I remember when my mum was turning 40 and I thought she was decrepit.🤣

BogRollBOGOF · 15/08/2024 12:46

Obvious cosmetic work is aging. It used to be older women having it done to get back to a more youthful decade so I always associate it with being well into middle age.

Hands and necks betray age anyway and when there's a disconnect between them and the face it looks odd.

At least I've got into my 40s comfortable with my natural looks. They will change and I only need to adjust my mindset at the natural rate of change. I've not wasted 10, 20 years trying to look 18 and spent ££££ delaying the inevitable. If you're spending your youth doing battle with nature, that's not a healthy mindset for dealing with aging as it accelerates.

I don't feel that I look older because there's women 10-20 years younger having work done. I just look like me.

Delphiniumandlupins · 15/08/2024 12:46

Teenagers are rubbish at guessing people's age, pretty much like children. But in her job she should learn to be tactful.

😂😂I remember this too and how mam threw a huge tantrum because dad bought her some fancy skin cream she had been banging on about for ages and she interpreted it as he thought she was old. There’s was a huge fight and we were all scared to mention her birthday the next year 🤣🤣

I remember thinking I would never worry about getting older but the last couple of years it does start to creep in! I’m a fair way of a hissy fit though!

Am 52. I use Tret. I think I look pretty good though not necessarily young. Never getting Botox or fillers. Ever. Don't care if everyone else looks like Molly Mae!

Can I ask what tret is please? I'm definitely looking the old hag these days with lines deeper than the grand canyon. I believe the best anti aging cream is sunblock worn all year round. wish I'd have took notice and starting using facial sunscreen in my youth. Have starting using it daily now but think it's too bloody late for my haggered face!

🤣🤣🤣she really had no social awareness at all ! She was asking me loads of personal questions about my life and when I asked for a magazine she was utterly bemused and said oh did you forget your phone 😂 god love her

Have had the same conversation with friends. We're in our thirties and all have some fine lines, it's totally normal! Does feel like Botox being so popular is moving the goalposts for what normal is.

neverbeenskiing · 15/08/2024 12:52

The women I know in their 40's who've had botox don't actually look younger, they just look like women in their 40's who've had botox.

nanodyne · 15/08/2024 12:53

I got botox on my 11s once, I liked looking less angry but decided it wasn't worth the price (would only get it done by a properly trained medical professional). I'm quite lucky though, I'm very oily which seems to be keeping my skin mostly smooth!
