Other people’s Botox habits making me look old

Humanpincushion · 15/08/2024 10:36

I’m in my mid thirties and I look my age, I think. I’m starting to get some creases round my eyes and some fine lines in my forehead and a deeper line in my smile crease.

im not necessarily bothered but over the last few years I’ve started to notice most of the friends and colleagues around my age ageing backwards 🤣

I went to the hairdresser the other day and the 17 year old apprentice was chattering away with a complete lack of tact as they often do and I mentioned approaching 40 in an offhand way she gasped and said oh I thought you were already past 40. When I revealed my true age of 36 she said seemed really suprised.

it got me thinking- as Botox seems so widely popular now has it changed perception to thinking people in their thirties are still fresh faced and wrinkle free ??!!

perhaps I just need to jump on the wagon and have some filler?

thoughts?

I think it’s unusual to have lines at 35ish even without Botox but it varies based on genetics. My partner does but I don’t. And there’s absolutely nothing wrong with having lines.

LimesOfBronze · 15/08/2024 11:34

After a particularly brutal season of life, I was smiling and realised I did have smile lines around my eyes and I was so happy to have them! My face is a testament to some joy!

Anyway, I think there are lots of things we can do but genetics will get us in the end. My SIL is a ‘clean’ eating aficionado, but she’s got the genes of the parent who looks every inch her pensioner age.

How are you guys getting hold of tretinoin?!

SonK · 15/08/2024 11:45

What is tret and where can I get some 😂

Yes, also interested in this!

CalicoPusscat · 15/08/2024 11:46

A little knobhead 😂

Am 52. I use Tret. I think I look pretty good though not necessarily young. Never getting Botox or fillers. Ever. Don't care if everyone else looks like Molly Mae!

What's Tret?

AnnaKing81 · 15/08/2024 11:47

Botox is best used as a prevention rather than a cure, best to have it younger.
I started in my early 30s to prevent the deep lines.
I wouldn't bother now if you're happy and not worried about the opinions of others.

Those saying they would shout at the innocent comment of a 17 yr old, really???

Not everyone who looks half their age has had Botox it's called not smoking, drinking water and eating good along with good genes. Learn to look after yourself

Animatic · 15/08/2024 11:51

I am 39, no wrinkles here (and no botox as I am terrified of needles) but obviously the skin looks different than at 30, 33, 36 , even last year. I can't even put my finger on what it is.
BTW you can spot botox miles away. the majority would get it done with beauticians that have no clue re how to administer it the way that it actually takes years off and does not create this "SW London mum who has money for botox" look.

ByCupidStunt · 15/08/2024 11:52

Whats wrong with looking as if you're in your mid thirties when you're in your mid thirties?

DinnaeFashYersel · 15/08/2024 11:53

Botox always looks awful and unnatural. People might think that they look better but they never do.

Animatic · 15/08/2024 11:55

OuterSpaceCadet · 15/08/2024 11:13

Two v different things. Botox, I wouldn't have because I value my expressive face in my work with children. One of my friends I can tell when she's had it done. She looks a bit startled but I presume she thinks she looks better. She was beautiful regardless and still is.

Filler no no no no just no.
Obviously someone will frame this as "hating on" women who get filler. I'm not, I really don't care what consenting adults do to their bodies but I won't pretend it looks good. It doesn't even make women look younger. It just makes women look like they have filler.

I feel really sorry for women living in areas where this look is so prevalent it seems normal. Imagine so many men did this? I couldn't find my partner attractive if he came home with that filler lip expression. I wouldn't want a man who found that attractive in me either.

the problem with fillers is that they stay in your body and do not go away. Who knows what health issue that would create down the line.

Dreamingofgoldfinchlane · 15/08/2024 11:55

If you've used tret religiously since your twenties, you won't have any wrinkles even in your fifties and beyond even if you don't use botox or fillers.

stainnotagain · 15/08/2024 11:57

I started getting preventative Botox in my mid-20s - I was a seriously bad frowner and face scruncher to the point where people would regularly mention it to me and I had visible lines even when I was “resting.” Tried computer glasses, face tape, behavioral changes, but nothing worked, which is why I got the Botox - not to look younger or to look like Molly Mae, but to “train” myself to stop constantly frowning. Genetics also aren’t on my side.

I’m really pleased with the results, apart from one time when I went to a different doctor who injected too much and I did look quite “frozen” for a few months. It also gives a nice glow and generally makes me look more rested and refreshed. At this point I only get it twice a year, and I think it’s gone a long way in “training” me not to frown even once it’s worn off.

I don’t think I’m fooling anyone about my age now that I’m in my 30s though, nor do I intend to!

I agree, I don’t think she was being mean just tactless and maybe a little naive.
I wasn’t upset or offended, I don’t think bring 40 is an insult.

I don’t mind my lines, although I haven’t ruled out Botox completely I’ll see how my self esteem holds up over the next few years!

Lol nothing my post was wondering if people in their mid thirties now actually look like they’re in their mid twenties so the baseline has shifted- do ‘natural’ people in their thirties look more like people in their forties because of the slowed ageing trend of Botox!

But who wants that? The rest of your body will be aging as normal.

It means make up still looks perfect all the time - none of the hideous settling in lines that comes with ageing. I also use tret on my body as well. Nothing is going to make you look younger than your age but you can look great for the age you are.

meh, I'm in my 50s & I look "very old" because I don't dye my hair or wear makeup. I actually look my age. I don't mind "looking old" so I wouldn't waste my money on those things. The others are the people pursuing a fountain of youth. If that makes them happy, crack on.

I have twice the energy of most people I know, so what I do works well for me.

Soshu · 15/08/2024 12:16

Of the people I know who get Botox, none look younger. They just look botoxed. I think there’s a very small window in late 20’s/early 30’s when Botox can make you look younger, but not by many years. Don’t forget all the other signs of ageing.

Fraaahnces · 15/08/2024 12:19

Rude… Most people I know who started using fillers and Botox early look older than I do. I’m 52 and have used tretinoin and sunscreen. My face moves. I have some dynamic lines but not deep ones and my collagen and skin tone is great.

Deadringer · 15/08/2024 12:19

I would just assume she is a bit stupid, not only thinking that you are older, but saying it too.
