Why do people think it’s cool?

To pretend they don’t know who trashy celebs are?

I think the whole MM news has highlighted it. But I notice it all the time on social media media when there is something about say the Kardashians and you get a comment saying “who?”

Now to be clear I don’t follow this type of celebrity and I have never watched a single episode of the Kardashians in my life - but I find it impossible that anybody under 60 doesn’t know who they are.

why do people do this?

Molly-Mae with her stupid name is the one I hear about. The Kardashians are so much part of popular culture for no reason but that’s the way it is.

They are people that are in the news like Beckhams kids are, for doing not much

I expect there are a fair few people that I think are household names but you don’t. That doesn’t make either of us wrong.

I saw that thread (it's trending) and I almost commented that I didn't know who they were, but couldn't be bothered and realised it was pointless.

So I'll take this opportunity of pointing out that some people - me - genuinely don't give a toss about sleb culture and definitely, honestly don't have a clue who these people are. I find celebrity 'news' boring af.

I find trashy celebs all look a bit identical and clones of each other too, which is really confusing.

Majorly weird you think people are trying to be cool. Do you not understand that people have different interests? I don't know who MM is and scanning through this thread and seeing it's about two reality TV stars breaking up.... I don't know who they are. It's not to be cool. I never would have even expressed this had I not opened this thread.

I literally had never heard of them before today. I barely ever watch normal TV and no celebrity stuff ever No interest at all.

Whereas I am probably equally surprised as you when people haven't heard of what I would consider famous musicians, politicians and scientists as I am really interested these.

I've checked back to the article I read about him and it referenced a boxer who transitioned (Kellie Maloney) and as I don't know what decathetes do boxing stuck in my mind.

I completely rely on my DDs.. as rarely watch tv and listen to radio 4 from dawn to dusk ..

I do try and keep up at the hairdressers because they have magazines like closer and hello ..

I know the Kardashian's.. (a bit - tbh not that much ) but for some reason am quite drawn to the woman who had two kids with a footballer who went back to his wife and ignored the kids .. Lorraine Goodyer. ?

Other than that .. I have seen ads on the tv for 'celebs go dating ' .. but honestly would not know the name of a them if I ran a single one over on a zebra crossing..

Am I now cool ? I hope so.. I will tell the kids ..

I read her original point more as “if you don’t know who they are, then why bother to comment “who? Don’t know them” on a post about them.
If these people really don’t know them, just move on! Usually people who go out of their way to do this, do so just to look superior.
If I saw a news article about a celeb I’d never heard of, I’d just keep scrolling, wouldn’t bother commenting to let the world know I don’t know them!

Yeah, I don't actually know who Tommy Fury is either but Tyson Fury is a boxer. I assume they are related... who knows?

I don't watch normal TV.
I don't buy magazines.
I don't mix with people who watch reality TV,or if the do they don't mention it.

So how would I know who these people are ?

OP, it's not impossible to have not heard of celebs or to know very little about popular culture. I tend to read about stuff I'm interested in. Would it surprise you to know that I have absolutely no idea of current music, and by current, I mean pretty much since the demise of the Spice Girls? I couldn't name you one Taylor Swift song. I saw her on Graham Norton but couldn't remember the song five minutes later. Some people just aren't interested in celebs and don't click on that stuff. Football and tennis are everywhere but I know nothing about them either, same reason.
