How often do they contact you?

If they go away for a few days to a week or so, how often do they text/call? Especially if you have dcs?

Text always upon waking. My husband knows when my phone is online.

Texts at lunch

FaceTime call early evening and either FaceTime or text at bedtime.

We are always joined at the hip and I struggle with him working away.

Bobbotgegrinch · 10/08/2024 00:44

If one of us is away for a week, we'll text to say we've arrived, and then aim for a phone call half way through. Otherwise we just leave each other to it unless there's an emergency.

Solocup · 10/08/2024 00:49

Multiple times a day, but mine is needy. I, on the other hand, have to remind myself to call him. He’d get over it if I didn’t but I know he’s a soppy git so I try my best to remember!

Miri13 · 10/08/2024 00:52

DH is currently abroad on annual golf trip. Away until Sunday. Text few times during day to check in with each other and will video call at least once. Often sends me photos of things he thinks will be of interest. If I’m away, it’s the same.

dontstopmenowimhavingagoodtime · 10/08/2024 05:19

Honestly...

Sometimes five times a day, sometimes one.

It just depends what's going on.

Deliaskis · 10/08/2024 05:33

Both DH and I work away on and off, him more than me these days, and probably send the odd message most days but not every day. Maybe speak once if away for more than 4-5 days. It depends on need though.... More likely to have a flurry of messages on a particular topic like agreeing a plan for something happening at the weekend, but then sometimes no messages for a day or so after. If I've not heard from him for a couple of days I'll send a 'Hey, everything ok?'.

garlictwist · 10/08/2024 06:28

If away for work he'd prob ring for a couple of mins a day in between meetings. If on holiday - maybe a couple of messages with photos too. But not always consistently every day.

DoAWheelie · 10/08/2024 06:33

My late OH and I took turns being the one away usually. We both had discord installed on our phones and laptops and would chat through the day just answering the last message during any free time. We'd probably send about 10 messages a day each on average, more if one of us was bored in a hotel room, less if it was a busy day with no downtime.

We pretty much never called each other though, just messages. No kids.

Mybeltsblue · 10/08/2024 06:36

Text at least, almost always a call too. Whether travelling for work or fun we've been in contact everyday for 20 years.

CurlewKate · 10/08/2024 07:03

Definitely a good night message before he goes to bed. Sometimes more if he has time, but always that.

anywhichone · 10/08/2024 07:14

We don't often go away. And not big texted when at home. There would definitely be an arrival safe text. And a catch-up message every day (maybe two or three messages) Maybe a phone call if it's more than a couple days.

DoublePeonies · 10/08/2024 07:16

Depends!

Usually only whatsapp messages, no calls.
We might skip a day if things get very busy - usually from DHs side, as when away he can wrack up 16 or 18 hour working days.
He went away yesterday, and we had quite a lot of back and forth because a) he had some time and b) we've had some sad news about a friend.
I'm not expecting him to message today tho, because I know what is scheduled. I'll drop him a line at some point.

NippyCrab · 10/08/2024 07:37

We whatsapp morning around 6am and sometimes have a video call. Whatsapp and voice message during the day and we video call once dinner for both of us is done. If I hadn't heard from DH for a day I'd definitely contact someone. How's your communication usually?

BeaRF75 · 10/08/2024 07:43

Couple of texts during the week. No phone calls. Never done a video call in my life! No kids.
We got together long before mobile phones were invented, and my husband had a job where personal calls were just impossible. So constant contact was never a thing. Plus, we are two competent, independent adults so this need some people have to always be in touch just baffles me. We've been married nearly 35 years, so it obviously works for us.

WaltzingWaters · 10/08/2024 07:45

Always a good morning text and an end of the day “how was your day?” And good night type text. Video chat once every 2-3 days.

sangriaandsunshineplease · 10/08/2024 07:52

Infrequently! On business trips for each of us, the days are usually spent in meetings, the evenings have some sort of work event and then the times around it are spent catching up on other work matters. The at home parent will message if there is an issue. I also find - and I think DH is the same - that there is little to say if I'm on a business trip as most of it is so dull. If one of us does something touristy whilst away, then we'll be in touch a bit more

MyBigFatGreekSalad · 10/08/2024 07:53

Message every few hours and call/facetime in the evening.

Muffin101 · 10/08/2024 08:01

We definitely text at least a couple of times a day, and then probably a phone call maybe every other day? Depends a bit on plans etc.
i went away for a week (first significant time away from 2yo DS!) and DH was fantastic for sending photos and videos showing what they were up to and we video called twice (chaotic with a toddler!), as well as, I think, one call between just DH and I one evening.

A couple of calls and fairly regular texts each day. Just how we roll.

TomeTome · 10/08/2024 08:36

4:5 calls, and multiple texts, but we are ridiculously chatty. If we didn’t have contact it wouldn’t be a big deal, it’s more that we tend to talk over a coffee or when there’s a natural break in work. None of it is long or particularly important.

SallyWD · 10/08/2024 08:40

DH goes away loads. We Whatsapp throughout the day. It depends how busy we are but there'll be a few messages about the kids and him telling me how his day is going, photos of his breakfast etc. We'll do a video call maybe once every two or three days. To be honest, I don't enjoy calls so am happy to just Whatsapp. He likes calls though.

OlympicsFanGirl · 10/08/2024 08:40

Maybe he's wondering why you haven't contacted him.

Tbh I think it's odd you are in here asking strangers instead of just texting or calling your DH/life partner/father of your child to say 'Hi how are you?'

Do you normally have communication problems in your relationship?

mondaytosunday · 10/08/2024 08:54

Generally once a day, but not always as it tended to be breakfast meeting, more meetings, dinner with colleagues... and of course the time difference. So when he could.

lapochette · 10/08/2024 09:33

DH works abroad and messages/calls/emails at least once a day depending on time zone etc. Sometimes he's in places where there is no/poor signals so won't hear so much then from him.
