So so overwhelmed ☹️☹️

Sorry posting for traffic. I need motivation and well god knows what else.

My mental health is rock bottom. I am a hoarder. I live in absolute squalor.

Today is the day I need to blast through the clutter. The junk. The piles of clothes. The piles of rubbish. The empty packaging and empty boxes. Empty cups. Some mouldy. I know how gross this is.

I am overwhelmed I’ve allowed it to get to this point. I can’t see my floors. Dust is everywhere. No wonder I’m constantly run down and have allergies.

It’s all m fault. Everything is filthy. I’m so ashamed and embarrassed.

It’s just me though. No kids. No pets. No partner. So im not putting anyone else through this hell. My friends don’t know. They’ve never seen it.

I’ve made a start. I’ve almost filled a roll of bin liners up to take to the tip. Cardboard boxes ready to be ripped up for the recycling box. I can now see a fraction of my wooden floor.

But by God. It’s hard. So hard. This is just a quick break to write this and have a drink. (Of tea) now I’ll be back to it and hopefully finish one room by this evening.

I don’t even know why I’ve posted here. But if you’re this far, thanks for reading.

Where do you live? I'd help.

Wigtopia · 09/08/2024 17:29

Well done OP it is so he’s to get started and it sounds like you’ve really kicked it off!! As PP have said, take pics - even if just for yourself to see that amazing progress you’ll make.

but do keep us posted on how you’re going with it all. I am sure you will inspire someone else to get started if you haven’t already! In fact, you have inspired me to have a bit of a sort out!

motherofbees · 09/08/2024 17:34

I'm imagining how amazing you are going to feel getting into those clean sheets tonight with a sense of pride and a job well done e and probably exhausted
Hope you have a good nights sleep and the rest of the house feels more manageable
Well done
We are proud of you

Hunglikeapolevaulter · 09/08/2024 17:38

You're amazing for tackling this. Huge well done to you.

Surlyburd · 09/08/2024 17:38

Well done making a start is the hardest thing!
If I can offer any advice (unasked for I know) it's to do one room at a time, then a break.
Try not to veer off and start another task before you have finished one room.
Well done, it's really hard work.

leemium · 09/08/2024 17:38

Also if you have a pile or drawer or bin or whatever that is just too intimidating, start with a look through it just to see what's in there, with no pressure to actually move or throw anything. Once you look through it you are certain to find things that can go out, so the pile will be reduced when you go back to it later to properly sort it.

bonzaitree · 09/08/2024 17:40

Well done keep going! Where are you? I bet someone will come and help if you let them!

DollieBantrysPantry · 09/08/2024 17:40

Left · 09/08/2024 17:40

StrongasSixpence · 09/08/2024 17:41

Well done. Can you afford to hire a skip? It will be much easier than lots of tip runs.

Very well done indeed! 😀

Ellieostomy · 09/08/2024 17:45

Well done, you’re doing such a good job and we’re all so proud of you. We’re all cheering you on!

startingagain13 · 09/08/2024 17:47

Hiya have you considered that you may have hoarding ocd? This is treatable, worth thinking if you have any other themes (ocd thoughts that consume you - like fear of driving).

Charlottescobweb · 09/08/2024 17:48

You don't need any of it keep going. It's not easy going through it all but once its gone you will feel better. After its gone you could invite a friend over for a glass of wine as a treat.

alrightluv · 09/08/2024 17:49

Just want to add my congratulations. That's a big achievement already. I hope you enjoy your tidy bedroom and it spurs you on.

Fam23 · 09/08/2024 17:51

You’re incredible!
keep reminding yourself why you’ve started. It’ll be so worth it when you can see the difference!

Morethanthis71 · 09/08/2024 17:52

OP you are incredible to have started the clearing and to have started this thread. My Mum was an extreme hoarder, it took me a very long time to get the house ship shape for my Dad. It's emotional wearing - you have my every good wish, you've got this!

nats2010 · 09/08/2024 17:52

Well done OP. Massive headway in a short space of time. Take it a day at a time. Break it into smaller chunks of time if needed. Hugs. You are doing great xx

mamaison · 09/08/2024 17:53

Amazing that you have got up and just done this on your own! Well done.

Crayfishforyou · 09/08/2024 17:53

That small patch of floor you can will increase. Think how much better you will feel at the end, and keep that in mind.

Toastghost · 09/08/2024 17:53

You can do it!!
