So so overwhelmed ☹️☹️

Sorry posting for traffic. I need motivation and well god knows what else.

My mental health is rock bottom. I am a hoarder. I live in absolute squalor.

Today is the day I need to blast through the clutter. The junk. The piles of clothes. The piles of rubbish. The empty packaging and empty boxes. Empty cups. Some mouldy. I know how gross this is.

I am overwhelmed I’ve allowed it to get to this point. I can’t see my floors. Dust is everywhere. No wonder I’m constantly run down and have allergies.

It’s all m fault. Everything is filthy. I’m so ashamed and embarrassed.

It’s just me though. No kids. No pets. No partner. So im not putting anyone else through this hell. My friends don’t know. They’ve never seen it.

I’ve made a start. I’ve almost filled a roll of bin liners up to take to the tip. Cardboard boxes ready to be ripped up for the recycling box. I can now see a fraction of my wooden floor.

But by God. It’s hard. So hard. This is just a quick break to write this and have a drink. (Of tea) now I’ll be back to it and hopefully finish one room by this evening.

I don’t even know why I’ve posted here. But if you’re this far, thanks for reading.

Hello all you lovely people 😊

A progress update. (8 hours after I started on my bedroom) it is done. Still needs a thorough deep clean, skirting boards, inside wardrobes etc. BUT all the crap has gone into bags. I can see and walk on the floor again. It’s dusted, and hoovered. Bedding in the wash waiting to be changed.

After my last update I ran out of bin bags. And instead of doing the total normal adult thing to do like popping to the shop for some more, I cried. Called my mum, and cried more. She was right round with stacks of bags. She knows I’ve been struggling mentally for a while but probably not this bad. Anyway with her help, one room is done. She is an angel, and wasn’t phased in the slightest like I thought she would be.

Just wanted to say another massive thank you to every single one of you that has taken the time out to send you encouragements and offers to help me. It is so appreciated, and has been a huge help.

I will read every message again and again. And then some more.

To anyone who is going through similar - if I can make a start and a change -then you can too!

Bath is running then going to have some dinner

Emmadaily · 14/08/2024 21:51

Another well done to you OP
Keep up your amazing work xx

SoEffingOverwhelmed · 15/08/2024 11:29

Thank you all again for all your lovely and encouraging comments 😁

I’ve done my back in from all the bending down, cleaning and lobbing bags. But mentally feel so much better. Having a couple days rest off work, and to avoid anymore back injuries. But so far House and mind are so much better x

That's a great update (all things considered).

At least now you know how much effort you will need going forwards in order to keep the place tidy without the back breaking.

Hope you're back feels strong again soon!

VibeVanguard · 15/08/2024 12:10

OP I want to thank you again for being such an inspiration to me. After reading your thread I managed to stop procrastinating and get on with some tasks I’d been finding incredibly overwhelming. I’m now so proud of myself!

I hope you can get the rest and recovery time you need. Clearing and sorting can be tough work on the body!

Thanks ☺️ 🌻

CoffeeLover90 · 15/08/2024 22:03

Sorry to hear you hurt your back but you sound positive and determined, cling onto that and keep up the good work.

Scirocco · 15/08/2024 22:07

@SoEffingOverwhelmed you've inspired me - it's not as impressive as your achievements, but I've managed to clear out 3 bags' worth of stuff for charity. Thank you for giving me the motivation to do it!

Happy New (ish😂) Year you lovely lot! Incase anyone gets these notifications.

I had a bit of a relapse towards December with my hoarding. Felt utterly useless and so disappointed in my self for weeks.

But today I remembered this thread, came back and re-read all your amazing encouragement. I’ve finally blitzed the house (it wasn’t as bad as when I did it in the Summer) so it’s only taken me 1.5 days.

I feel so much better. And if anyone else is in the same boat as me - just get stuck in and power through. 💪

Also thinking of exploring an ADHD assessment. I’ve never really thought about it until I saw a post on Instagram explaining more in detail about how it presents in adult women. (And hoarding being a symptom).

Anyway, happy Sunday everyone enjoy your evenings before the dreaded Monday morning. X

So lovely to read your update. Well done! I hope you inspire others to do the same xx

ilovesushi · 19/01/2025 21:51

How brilliant to hear your update. You are such an inspiration! I think ADHD is massively underdiagnosed in women. An assessment could be well worth pursuing. It might give you some answers and lift those feelings of guilt. xxx

alrightluv · 19/01/2025 22:51

@SoEffingOverwhelmed oh fabulous. I can feel the lightness in your post 😊

Maternitywoes · 20/01/2025 00:53

You are incredible @SoEffingOverwhelmed what a legend you are, we all get overwhelmed but you dealt with it head on and should definitely change your name to SoEffingProud.

You are inspiring ! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Happy new year!

I have similar symptoms to you, so I saw the doctor for an adhd assessment, took me 2 years to get it, finally had assessment on New Year's Eve and yes I have it, diagnosed at age 41, wish I had known years ago! If you think you may have it get to gp for referral as it takes a long time. Good luck x

Gassylady · 20/01/2025 07:48

Well done on deciding to make a change. Remember it took time to get like this please don’t expect to reverse it in a day or a couple of days. Be kind to yourself whilst you are making some changes

Marine30 · 20/01/2025 17:26

That’s brilliant OP - new year new start. A teacher at school reminds the kids each week to sweep the sheds, clear the decks and that’s exactly what you have done 👍 🙌👌
