Made a bolognaise pasta sauce type thing with 1 kg of minced beef steak.
Onions, peppers and mushrooms added.
Have come home from work and DH and DS 18 have polished the bloody lot off leaving me with a measly ladle full of sauce
( pasta was cooked separately for clarification)
They are most of that too

1 kg of meat between two healthy males? Gluttony? I would have been delighted because they would have shown appreciation and I would have been taught a lesson not to be mean and tight when cooking and make a proper amount the next time. I hope it explains it. I despise people mean with food, I despise 'and save the rest for sandwiches for tomorrow'. We are a first world country, mince is not caviar or lobster. Neither is pasta. You don't have to be rich to be generous with food, but to expect 1 kg to last in a household with two men, well, words fail me.

I think you’ve already told us once that you’d be delighted. No one’s buying it.

Maybe you have a bigger food budget. I wouldn’t be feeding the foxes, I’d be feeding the freezer.

I don't have a bigger budget, I am just a shit homemaker, that is all. But I do NOT chuck steaks and salmon for the fox, in my defence.

In fact, there’s something very suspect about this post:

and I would have been taught a lesson not to be mean and tight when cooking and make a proper amount the next time.

Someone all delighted about the idea of a woman being ‘taught a lesson’ by two men. Nice try.

500g of meat each? Yes I would consider that a lot.

Would you consider giving someone a 12oz steak to be being "mean" with food? That's 340g.

PoopedAndScooped · 08/08/2024 17:57

500g of meat, feeds 7 with some left over?

Wow. They must eat like a bird

Its not just 500g of meat though is it?

Vegetables, pasta etc....

60g is an adult portion of mince when used with veg etc,

DownThePubWithStevieNicks · 08/08/2024 17:22

Bloody hell. I’d expect that to be 8 standard portions!

Eight!

We get 3 out of 1Kg in our house!

Have you never been taught a lesson by men, women, dogs, cats? I am grateful for all the lessons given to me. I am particularly grateful for the lessons taught by men, in fact, my best teachers have all been men, my physics teacher, my chess teacher - and my skating teacher. And I don't view my dh and my dc as 'men', btw. My dh is one whole with me, my dc is my flesh and blood.

Horror! I don’t always use real mince either! Once I’ve added pancetta, all the veg and some lentils all is good.

Why bother purchasing the mince if you're going to dilute it so much with other stuff? Just use a beef stock cube and lentils.

Sometimes I'll add a handful of red lentils into the 1.25kg of meat (plus soffrito) but too much and it changes the flavour and texture.

dbeuowlxb173939 · 09/08/2024 12:45

That would do 2 meals for us! (2 adults, 13 & 9 DDs), and DH would eat a big portion!

Tell them - they've been inconsiderate not leaving you enough for a proper meal

FictionalCharacter · 09/08/2024 13:10

Octavon · 09/08/2024 07:37

Boys and young men who are very active (gym etc) eat a lot
But the point is they could eat a lot of something else. They could eat their dinner then top it up with toast or eggs or whatever if they’re still hungry. That’s absolutely fine. What’s not fine is taking OP’s dinner without considering that they’re leaving her with nothing to eat.

Exactly. Eating a lot - ok, if they need it. Eating all of the food and leaving a tiny spoonful, so there isn't enough for the person who cooked it to have a normal portion - absolutely not ok.

Like PPs I'm appalled at some of the replies here excusing these selfish people who won't exercise a bit of self control. So much so they're happy to deprive their wife and mother of a meal.

Fleurdalys · 09/08/2024 13:27

@ the secret
Dunno I was still in bed when they left
They discovered the frozen wraps
No doubt supermarket will be quids in today with meal deals

@El12

exactly how much mince should have op cooked then? Cos it sounds like they would have kept eating and
eating until it was all gone just cos it was there? 2 stone of mince maybe? Would that be enough? And OP can just have a slice of bread or something.

Urgh it’s no wonder we’re having a climate crisis

Purplecrush · 09/08/2024 14:28

Don't cook for the weekend.
Tell them to crack on.
No way would I tolerate that.

It makes 6 moderate portions in my house, always cooked with onions, mushrooms etc. more the 6 portions is a bit stingy, I think.

Mince is the new magic chicken I see

I know. There seems to be some sort of competit9n On how many tiny portions you can get from mince, the more exaggerated the better as then itshames these men more. 😂

however on saying that, we do about 3 portions from 500g, so two people eating one kg is a lot. My only issue would be they should have left the op a portion.

I think six portions from 500g is already stingy, but plenty would think I’m wrong. So…

Tbf I am not a big eater due to medical issues and DP and I are both retired so not doing heavy manual labour. DP is trying to lose a bit of weight. DD is often here and will eat a fair sized portion as she does an active job. If I had two teenage lads, there'd be nothing left, I reckon.

These men need shaming. The bickering about portion sizes is kind of irrelevant; they showed zero respect for OP.

That is the only issue! People have different appetites - fine. But everyone should be capable of basic courtesy even if they’re ‘big, active men’ or whatever.

Well alright calm down with the shaming. Doubt they are reading this, you can go back to relishing game of thrones 😂
