Made a bolognaise pasta sauce type thing with 1 kg of minced beef steak.
Onions, peppers and mushrooms added.
Have come home from work and DH and DS 18 have polished the bloody lot off leaving me with a measly ladle full of sauce
( pasta was cooked separately for clarification)
They are most of that too
Twats

Hope you ordered yourself a takeaway and told them you wouldn’t cook for them again. I would have been furious. So inconsiderate of them.

DiduAye · 09/08/2024 18:43

Greedy maybe SELFISH most definitely There would be consequences that's for sure !

Marine30 · 09/08/2024 18:46

I can’t help thinking half a kilo of mince wouldn’t be doing your digestive system any favours either 😳 Yanbu - especially when you were due some.

"No remotely reasonable person thinks "this isn't enough food, so I'll just take my OH's so she has nothing to eat".
HunterDuke
"There was no intent or malice, it was thoughtless at worst."

And there we have it in a nutshell:
I honestly believe that women are trained from an early age to think "how many people does this need to feed?", "I'd better leave enough for the rest of the family" etc whereas men simply don't think at all: they see food and shovel it up.
It's not an excuse, but it's an explanation: and the reason that I take precautionary measures!

Debs2024 · 09/08/2024 19:02

Greedy thoughtless bastards. Don’t cook until u get home beans on toast or something instant cheap and boring or get them to make something for you So rude

Teateaandmoretea · 09/08/2024 19:03

FixTheBone · 09/08/2024 09:11

Its not just 500g of meat though is it?

Vegetables, pasta etc....

60g is an adult portion of mince when used with veg etc,

Oh please.

500g feeds 4 adults. So the OP’s bloke is a ridiculous greedy fucker.

But mumsnet competitive under eating 🙄

Teateaandmoretea · 09/08/2024 19:05

Sharptonguedwoman · 08/08/2024 23:19

Don’t think I could make 500g mince feed 12, honestly. Maybe 6?

I could in chilli con carne, make it stretch to 6 with lots of beans. 12 😂😂

I recommend Cupid à la Сarte by O'Henry.

I looked it up so the rest of you wouldn't have to. Jeff has just asked the waitress in the restaurant where's he's been eating regularly to marry him.

""'Jeff,' she says, 'I'm sorry you spoke. I like you as well as any of them, but there isn't a man in the world I'd ever marry, and there never will be. Do you know what a man is in my eye? He's a tomb. He's a sarcophagus for the interment of Beafsteakporkchopsliver'nbaconham- andeggs. He's that and nothing more. For two years I've watched men eat, eat, eat, until they represent nothing on earth to me but ruminant bipeds. They're absolutely nothing but something that goes in front of a knife and fork and plate at the table. They're fixed that way in my mind and memory. I've tried to overcome it, but I can't. I've heard girls rave about their sweethearts, but I never could understand it. A man and a sausage grinder and a pantry awake in me exactly the same sentiments. I went to a matinee once to see an actor the girls were crazy about. I got interested enough to wonder whether he liked his steak rare, medium, or well done, and his eggs over or straight up. That was all. No, Jeff; I'll marry no man and see him sit at the breakfast table and eat, and come back to dinner and eat, and happen in again at supper to eat, eat, eat.'

Long story short........ Reader, she married him.

40g of mince is not enough for a portion Confused my teens would be horrified and ask where the rest of it was.

The average adult needs 45g to 55g of protein per day.

Ladymeade · 09/08/2024 19:26

Selfish twats! What exactly did they think you were going to have for dinner?

125g of mince has on a quick Google 27.4g of protein 🤦🏻‍♀️

DownThePubWithStevieNicks · 08/08/2024 19:06

Genuine Q - are people saying 500g feeds 2 and 1kg feeds 4 extremely active, or overweight?

As an aside, the authentic Italian way is to have a pretty small portion of the meat sauce, not drowning the pasta in it!

Ah but the pasta course is not usually the main course of an Italian meal.

FWIW I'd say 500g mince, mixed with plenty of veg (not v Italian!), makes 3 decent tea portions, 4 smaller lunch ones

You ever fed a teenage lad?

juggleit · 09/08/2024 19:40

Probably 4 here with their voracious appetites
Fuming
Hope they get stomach ache

Anonym00se · 08/08/2024 17:23

I’d have words. 1kg of mince should be enough for 8 people. It’s greedy af of them not to keep you a decent portion. I’d be livid, especially after you made it.

8 people 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

my two teens’ll eat 750 on their own, one’s whip thin one’s “gym buff”

only in mumsnet imaginary land 🙄

LouDeLou · 09/08/2024 19:44

The amount is not the issue, it’s that they didn’t dish you out some first.

not greedy, just inconsiderate 🤷‍♀️

LouDeLou · 09/08/2024 19:44

Sharptonguedwoman · 09/08/2024 19:39

Obvs not 🤣

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 09/08/2024 20:09

Well I'm glad I have a teenage DD rather than a son then! Cheap beef mince is about £6 a kg so I can't get my head round a meal for 3 that is supposed to be cheap costing £6 for the meat bit alone.

Food causes more arguments in our house than anything else. I've always wondered if we aren't normal!

I don’t think that 1kg of mince for 8 is mumsnet land that’s normal.

500g for 12 otoh….

I don’t get it really. On other threads we see folks writing they can eat a large pizza and a portion of Ben and jerrys. There’s a thread on a lone woman getting an Indian takeaway and folks are saying get curry, rice, chips AND naan, and on here 1kg is 8-12 portions and the men are greedy bastards.

Apparently mince and chicken feeds the 5000 but a box of six donuts is a single portion.
