DH’s attitude re riots etc upsetting and angering me

1000 replies

Pinkycloud · 07/08/2024 13:55

I feel so sick. Every time we talk about the riots, DH comes out with ‘well people are angry, etc’. He says he doesn’t condone violence, but there’s always a ‘but’. He voted Reform, I voted Lib Dem. I tell him he sounds racist in some of the comments he makes, which he vehemently denies.

He’s a loving, hardworking husband and father but… this! He is honestly a good man. I don’t know how to deal with it other than banning the subject. Has anyone else got very different political views from their spouse or partner?

I also want to protect my family from Islamists. My DD wears teeny tiny clothes, goes clubbing, likes Taylor Swift.. how should I start? Or rather, how should my Dh start? Since men protect their families and all.

Startingagainandagain · 08/08/2024 09:23

That would really concern me.

Because it means that your DH is gullible enough to believe Farage and his nonsense and that he has some rather dodgy political views.

The rioters are not expressing 'concern'. They are causing criminal damage and championing fascist/racist/nazi ideology.

Frankly I don't think I could live with someone like that.

Also I would worry that he would try to pass on his views to your kids.

So these pensioners are the “patriots peacefully protesting” the Southport murders and immigrants?? What the pensioners protesting cuts to winter fuel payments have to do with you defending the riots saying they are actually peacefully protests by pensioners?

That’s not what l said.

Livelovebehappy · 08/08/2024 09:32

Anklespraying · 08/08/2024 09:10

That's the exact waffle you would expect!

His experience of liberal white women is that their standards are so low they will excuse anyone doing anything and force their men to sit down instead of protecting their families.

Most white women in this country have ‘liberal’ views, thankfully. You sound like you’re his mouthpiece and repeating what he’s told you, because he clearly doesn’t want you to be your own person, with ‘liberal’ views. And I’m not quite sure what you mean when you say liberal white womens ‘force’ their husbands to sit down. There’s equality in this country between the sexes. Remind your dh of that.

Literally lots of people are on here and elsewhere. I mean you can't even get past two sentences without a "but racist islamaphobe" warnings can you?

Edited

Bullshit.

Yes, people will call out Islamophobia when they see it, but I do not believe that a single person has called you Islamophobic to be angry about Isamists wanting to murder young girls.

If people are calling you Islamophobic, it is probably because you are expressing Islamophobic views.

I think what’s ‘dodgy’ is urging a poster to think twice about their marriage just because they don’t agree with their partners’ politics. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. It’s not dodgy to believe that there are totally disenfranchised people in this country, who feel they have no voice. It’s absolutely no excuse for the appalling riots we’ve seen in the last couple of weeks, but has been said before, people were looking to the new labour government, who have very clearly signalled that they’re just another version of the Tories.

Some of us saw it coming in the language that was being used before and during the election campaign, so it’s little wonder that people are turning to a party like reform. What’s the alternative ? And OP hasn’t exactly covered herself in glory by voting Lib Dem considering that as part of the coalition government they stood by and allowed the Tories to trash the country with ideological austerity.

Still waiting to hear what Christian values are. Maybe I should start another thread because no one is able to explain to me. it's a fuzzy term. Instead, they just accuse me of obtuseness.

Ten Commandments are a good start. Familiarise yourself.

Poppycornfields · 08/08/2024 09:48

FFS

Christian values are mostly about forgiveness. As are all the major world religions.

This squabbling and petty point scoring doesn’t make anyone look clever.

No it's not, but it shows that immigration has helped with growth. Something the UK is not doing on its own (that's a concern in itself).

It goes against the rhetoric that immigration is a strain on our country's resources, being my main point!

And actually where I live, schools rely on these immigrants to keep open.

Also multiplier effect - demand increases spending which in turn increases growth so I think what you've mentioned re services is probably included in the whole growth report

Edited

Growth without GDP per capita increasing is a disaster people become poorer as has happened in the UK.

it only takes one person doing something stupid, like trying to please everyone by removing some traditionally perceived Christian tradition, for people to get upset and start seeing each new mosque as 'threatening'

I agree. But since this has literally never happened (+) except in the mind of the outraged, it reduces to "it only takes a false story, circulating on social media, that someone is trying to please everyone by removing some traditionally perceived Christian tradition", at which point it's 100% in the head of the person looking to be outraged.

Except that they are not false stories. Possibly the reason they’re not coming up on google is that they were only reported in the local area press. In my own area the council wanted to do something similar and in the end local opposition stopped them from scrapping the Christmas tree, but as a compromise, they rebranded the local Christmas market as a ‘winter market’ so as not to cause ‘offence’. A few similar stories can still be found on google from last year and a couple of years ago.

l read that post and found some of what was posted quite concerning - not least because l live quite close to a hotel housing asylum seekers and there have been several disturbing instances here. One involved a 13 year old girl being followed by a young man offering to pay her for sex. Just because it doesn’t show up on google, doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen.

Ten Commandments are a good start. Familiarise yourself.

But all religions have similar values. It's just that very few people actually follow them.

Sikh temples, for instance, have been feeding thousands of people every week. I think the Southall Sikh gurudwara actually provides 10 k free meals a week. Should they all follow Christian values?

People think I am being obtuse. I think it's really arrogant to think that one religion has the monopoly on kindness, charity, liberalism and such like.

Lovelysausagedogscrumpy · 08/08/2024 10:11

Lentilweaver · 08/08/2024 08:43

What would you like white men to do?
What for instance, should fathers do when white men are shooting up the US schools daily?

White men in government not branding concern about the levels of immigration as ‘racist’ might be a start. Police announced that the Southport attacks were not terror related while the anti terrorist unit were still involved. Those in government know the feeling in the country - concern for the effects of high immigration on some parts of the country is not racism.

I'm not saying or doing anything phobic at all and yet you are posting hostile and aggressively accusatory warnings and assumptions.

Why is it so important to liberals that people are given constant aggressive pre emptive warnings about phobias? It gives a strong impression that liberals believe a phobia or fear of terrorism is more of a priority to them than actual terrorism.

I suppose until your own family is damaged it's much more satisfying to boost your own ego by giving out constant aggressive warnings that there's no threat, nothing to fear and you are a very bad person if you do experience fear of terrorism.

This is how you sound.

The Austrian terrorist was born in Vienna.

Personally, as I have asked what people should do, Anjem Chowdhury should have been arrested about a decade ago, or maybe two decades ago. He was also born in the UK, though. And all his associates. Perhaps we need better laws against hate speech.

You know why? Because Stockport
murder was committed by a CHRISTIAN. What does Islam has to do with it at all? Why are you bringing it up? Why did the rioters bring it up?
Oh, maybe because of the assumption that brown boy, son of immigrants = Islamist?

My political and religious views are very different. It's not something I ever talk about.

I'm probably way off the mark here but I'm nit sure how relationships really work when you have widely different political views.

Surely the way you vote is a reflection of your values and morals, of who you really are as a person?

Has that been confirmed? I think you stating as fact he is a Christian is as bad as those who said he is a Muslim. As far as I see it nothing has been confirmed as yet.

Of course it has been confirmed. By literally every press outlet.I am fairly sure he knew the Ten Commandments. Didn't stop him.

He was a practicing Christian. Or raised by Christian parents? Or from a country where Catholicism is the main religion?

They're all different. As far as I know only the latter has been confirmed

His parents were heavily involved in the church. That is an Indy report.

As to whether he was a practicing Christian, that is a bit of semantics. If people with Muslim parents are considered Muslim, I guess he can be considered Christian. He was also part of a Dr Who promotion featured on the BBC.
