DH’s attitude re riots etc upsetting and angering me

1000 replies

Pinkycloud · 07/08/2024 13:55

I feel so sick. Every time we talk about the riots, DH comes out with ‘well people are angry, etc’. He says he doesn’t condone violence, but there’s always a ‘but’. He voted Reform, I voted Lib Dem. I tell him he sounds racist in some of the comments he makes, which he vehemently denies.

He’s a loving, hardworking husband and father but… this! He is honestly a good man. I don’t know how to deal with it other than banning the subject. Has anyone else got very different political views from their spouse or partner?

I put "council decides not to put up a Christmas tree to avoid offending" into Google, without the quotes so it will find anything vaguely relevant, and all it finds is reports of fake stories about "Christmas is cancelled".

So this is how it works. The government and various do-gooders piss off the public pretending its "for diversity", and people blame the foreigner.

samarrange · 07/08/2024 18:53

But if I were to find it online, I could reply with "Oh, yeah, found it, it was in XYZ town", and then you would be outed, would you not?

So for the moment I hope you will forgive me for taking the story with a massive pile of salt.

Don’t really care to be honest, if this is all you took away from my post. Think what you like.

Depressingly, I think they are. Advocating that we celebrate Christmas - a Christian celebration - quietly and privately for fear of causing offence to other who are not of the same faith. In a Christian country. Makes me wonder what would happen if this poster was in a non Christian country and advocated the same in reverse. Their feet wouldn’t touch. We have Diwali celebrations where I am and everyone joins in enthusiastically. It’s wonderful and everyone is welcomed. Some people are just miserable I guess.

I think this just a made up problem to stir up arguments . I don't think Muslims have a problem with other people celebrating Christmas. I have spent Christmas in a strictly Muslim country and there were decorations albeit on a small scale. On Christmas day passers by wished us Happy Christmas.

I’m absolutely not ‘blaming the foreigner’. What I’m saying is that this is an example of how the landscape is being changed. As far as I know there was no lobbying by any other non Christian community - it was a purely political decision. But it’s not helpful in encouraging better relations is it ?

Anyone who thinks voting for a legitimate political party is radical extremism needs a quick sense check.

I know I think these people on here don’t live in the real world. I’m so fed up with some of these comments. People with legitimate concerns about mass migration and aren’t listened to voted for reform. Most of us aren’t our rioting in the streets and throwing things at the police. Constant bullying and name calling by the left it’s so easy to call the race cards instead of having a conversation about people’s concerns. There is no nuanced discussion anymore that’s why the world goes to shit , it’s either left or right which is absolute nonsense. Most people with a brain cell should understand we are a small island country we don’t have the necessary infrastructure for mass migration on the scale we’ve had. If everyone coming here was coming here working in the nhs and doing all the jobs we need the nhs wouldn’t be in a crisis would it but as usual we are constantly gas lighted. The reason people voted for reform is constantly being dismissed ,so these commentators need to take a long hard look at themselves re the riots and realise they are part of the cause.

100% agree, but brace yourself for the torrent of abuse you’re going to get now from the know it all, im so superior crowd. They’ll just repeat parrot fashion what we have been listening to all day on these threads - racist, blah blah, racist. It’s just so predictable. It’s like they’re programmed to trot the phrase out for anything and everything these days. It’s lost it’s impact.

I’m not making anything up and I’m certainly not saying that Muslims have a problem with the celebration of Christmas. It was a purely political decision taken in ignorance, in my opinion, but it absolutely doesn’t help.

hotpotlover · 07/08/2024 19:17

The rioters aren't victims.

There's plenty of poor people who struggle with life that don't riot.

Life is hard for a lot of people and there's no excuse for trying to set a migrant hotel on fire. Anyone who behaves that way is a complete degenerate.

I’ve already been accused of being a liar, having posted from experience of living in an area of high immigration. Should have known that reasoned debate on MN is impossible. I’m out.

TorroFerney · 07/08/2024 14:10

Exactly this, the riots are awful awful as is the violence as is the girls being murdered as are some of the people on the free Palestine marches but it there are it seems only some things you can be acceptably worried about and the radicalisation of people entering the country or people who are criminals entering the country is not one of them or you are racist. I mean I’d also like all British criminals deported as well so I’m fairly balanced.

What has the murder of the girls got to do with any of this? I know it's the excuse that the thugs put forward but they know perfectly well that that has nothing whatsoever to do with immigration or the targets of their islamophobia.

Where do you suggest British criminals should be deported to? Something tells me Rwanda won't want them.

Let's flip it around a sec.

Why aren't the people rioting doing the NHS jobs we need? And the other stuff like crop picking? I mean I doubt they would be rioting if they were.

Summerflames · 07/08/2024 19:19

You asked for nuance. Why did we get rid of EU nationals currently working in the NHS when brexit happened? Why did researchers go back to their countries of birth? Why didn't British people fill these gaps?

TheNuthatch · 07/08/2024 19:19

Runninggirls26 · 07/08/2024 18:55

And what exactly has been covered up here? The judge named the attacker despite being 17. The riots have nothing to do with those poor children and it sickens me that their deaths are being used to justify violence. It is just disgusting

My reply was about the grooming gangs in Rotherham. Maybe look into that if you want to know why racial tensions are so high there, and where the accusation of two tier policing comes from?

This thread is the exact reason that things have reached the point they have.

Side 1 has percieved valid concerns, Side 2 wont discuss it and reverts to names like racist and biggot to close down discussion.
Thats worked for a good few years, but like any wound it festers.
Now unless people are prepared to look at things and decide how to fix this, it isnt going to go away it will build until we really have something to complain about.

Exactly, it's clear isn't it. Not enough listening or respect to those who disagree.

Because they haven’t got the skills - Tories don’t like investing in ordinary British people. Too busy feathering their own nests. Which is why some of the unrest we’re seeing now is happening. The labour government to whom people are turning for change have just indicated that they’re no different - Tories under a different name.

Summerflames · 07/08/2024 19:23

The 2 things are true. Asylum seekers aren't doing NHS jobs and other critical roles because they haven't been processed yet so their status is undetermined and many wouldn't meet certain criteria in any case.

The thugs that are rioting don't don't these jobs, probably as above. They don't meet the criteria for a lot of them. Crop picking they could probably do and many other roles in society that would be productive. But being destructive seems to be more their way of thinking.

Summerflames · 07/08/2024 19:24

Bingo! They haven't got the skills. But that isn't the fault of the immigrant. It's exactly what you said. Under investment in people.

Summerflames · 07/08/2024 19:25

It just annoys me when people point out things like "immigrants aren't contributing to society" when simultaneously, the thugs are actively taking away from society. Burning down a library ffs.

So something that happened in 2002 is why people are rioting now? Where is the two tier policing in the Southport case? Why weren’t you rioting when a 9 year old girl was shot in her home by a white criminal gang member? Because you only give a shit when the perpetrator is not white?

It's almost like we've got a "two tier when-it's-fine-to-riot" amongst the gen pop.

Likewise. The Mail and similar media are constantly claiming that so-called woke lefties are trying to ban Christmas, yet every year schools throughout the country put on nativity plays, towns and villages put up loads of decorations and lights, churches put on advent and Christmas services, the Beeb broadcasts church services, all sorts of venues knock themselves out with carol concerts and performances of The Messiah, etc etc etc. Yet you will still get hard-of-thinking types claiming that they don't dare mention Christmas for fear of being accused of racism. I do wonder sometimes whether they spend the period from October to January in a blindfold with their fingers firmly in their ears.

Can you give an example of anyone in Tower Hamlets objecting to Christmas decorations? I'm sure the Mail and GB News would have been all over it.
