Don't fancy it? Don't go.

Let other people enjoy themselves.

This!!

You’re swimming in water which has literally cleaned the arsehole of every single person that’s used it, a few dogs aren’t going to make much difference.

I think you've just put me off swimming for life!

Indianajet · 06/08/2024 08:56

Why are people totally ignoring the facts? These sessions are for dogs and their owners only - they sound great, and if I lived nearby I would take my water loving labradors there. You don't like dogs - no problem, you can't go in anyway.

Sadly I think this is the way of the world these days! People can start any kind of spat on the basis of knowing nothing and not caring to try to learn.

I'd go too.

BobVanceVanceRefridgeration · 06/08/2024 08:59

OP you are being disingenuous in your selective posting!

Saltdean is famous for this within the dog owner community

THIS IS ONLY AT THE END OF THE SWIMMING SEASON FOR 4 WEEKENDS AND THE POOL IS THEN DRAINED AND CLEANED

The tickets to allow 'humans' to swim too are mostly for the owners who enjoy swimming with their much loved pets.

Please don't spread misinformation about a Lido that has already been saved once

Because if they actually read the facts they wouldn't have anything to froth over would theyGrinOP has done a good job, post something, leave out the facts and relevant details then wind them up and watch them go

Dear god, don’t come on here with the actual facts and being all sensible…..what has MN come to!

Don’t you know this is clearly another step in Devildogs master plan to take over the entire universe…..now, must go, my dog needs me to put his fan on so he keeps cool while he is reclining on the sofa (this bit is actually true!)

LMAO!

Sounds like your dog lives the life of a prince!

Also - what a beautiful pool! I had no idea!

It’s my happy place. They’ve just opened the cafe in the beautiful Art Deco lido building as well. It’s fabulous.

They let dogs into the lido with people on weekends 🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢

https://www.saltdeanlido.co.uk/dogtember

Have you actually read the details of this? As many have stated the pool is closed to the public at this point and it is just open for the dog swims then the pool is shut down for the winter. Perhaps check your facts out? You don't have to go, either...

Shade17 · 06/08/2024 09:04

garlictwist · 06/08/2024 08:35

Speak for yourself but when I get in a pool my arsehole is already clean. What do you think people are doing before they get in a pool, wiping shit everywhere? Most people are hygenic and care about water safety. Dogs do not.

You think that most people scrub their arseholes spotless before they get in a pool?

MasterShardlake · 06/08/2024 09:04

My lab'd love this, not sure if I'd actually get in the water though. DH would and I'd stay poolside and watch them play.

Livelovebehappy · 06/08/2024 09:05

Tbh, not for me, and I’m a dog lover, but people are pretty disgusting too. There are signs up saying to shower before you get in a pool, but I reckon most people just take their dirty sweaty bodies straight into the pool, and some have a pee in there too. So equally disgusting.

DopeyS · 06/08/2024 09:06

@Greenbananasoup people on Mumsnet are so embarrassing that jump onto a thread frothing at the mouth at how dirty and disgusting something is without bothering to look at half the facts.

All the people on here deciding it's every weekend, children will be swimming with the dogs. The dogs will be covered in worms, parasites and go knows what else.

Posters have clearly said the pool is a charity, they raise money at the end of the year once it is closed to keep it running. The water is drained for the winter, the pool cleaned and refilled and back open for May. But then the people on here wouldn't be able to clutch at their pearls and scream about the disgusting dogs harming their precious children when the likelihood is most people have never heard of this pool and will never go there- but we must shut it down to save the children.

Hardly "on the weekends" (when did we start saying that in this country?). I thought you were complaining that it was every weekend and putting you off having a swim when you were able to get there. It's a handful of weekends over a very specific time of the year. It's well publicised so no one is going to unknowingly get into a pool full of dogs. Likewise, kids will be back at school. I'm surprised though that it's popular in a place where you can go swimming with your dog in the sea for free.

NoisyDenimShaker · 06/08/2024 08:56

The dog month takes place after the pool has closed for the season. It's then drained, cleaned, and refilled in time for the next season. The Lido is open until September 12 and then closes for public swimming. Just doggies and their owners until the next season. No dogless humans are allowed during that time.

Yes this has been said many times now on this thread. We get it.

What I don't get is why the pool is specially reserved for dogs in September when they could be making money out of the thousands of people that are only just discovering the lido is open?

September is pretty warm.

I think they need to change this dog promotion - push it back to October when it's colder. Info about the lido is getting out and locals want to visit once the summer tourist season is over. Now we hear it is going to be reserved for DOGS!

The pool should be for humans to enjoy in September.

MassiveOvaryaction · 06/08/2024 09:06

I'd rather share the pool with dogs than toddlers/small children tbh.

Probably chosen September as kids go back to school, and weekends are then taken up with other extra curriculum activities and homework, which were not there during the school holidays.

I would absolutely love this, wish there was somewhere near me where I could do this

alpinia · 06/08/2024 09:20

I don't see a problem with this done the way it is described. Our local one also does dog swims for a couple of weekends after the end of human season. They then close for the winter, drain and clean etc. It's hugely popular, raises more money than even the most popular summer human months and all that money goes towards keeping the lido open for everyone else. At ours, it isn't usually owners swimming with the dogs, more just dressed for cold water. The last few human weekends tend to see so few swimmers it's barely worth opening.

Don’t be so condescending, I read the entire Dogtember webpage and the swim section of the lido webpage before any of my comments.

I think it is disgusting and a health risk to any dog owners swimming with the dogs. I think the lido could raise money in a way that keeps the pools reserved for humans only- as a pp suggested half price tickets for off season swimming. Perhaps swim lessons for school age kids. Or open to kayaking clubs to do lessons in water safety, rolling, and rescue as well. Or lifeguard training classes. So much can be done in the off season other than catering to dogs who already have an entire beach to use.

It’s arrogant to assume those who think it’s awful “can’t read” or are unaware of the details.
